Separated longitudinal and transverse structure functions for the reaction 1H(e,e(')pi(+))n were measured in the momentum transfer region Q2 = 0.6--1.6 (GeV/c)(2) at a value of the invariant mass W = 1.95 GeV. New values for the pion charge form factor were extracted from the longitudinal cross section by using a recently developed Regge model. The results indicate that the pion form factor in this region is larger than previously assumed and is consistent with a monopole parametrization fitted to very low Q2 elastic data.  相似文献

We report an analysis of the nuclear dependence of the yield of Drell-Yan dimuons from the 800 GeV/c proton bombardment of 2H, C, Ca, Fe, and W targets. Employing a new formulation of the Drell-Yan process in the rest frame of the nucleus, this analysis examines the effect of initial-state energy loss and shadowing on the nuclear-dependence ratios versus the incident proton's momentum fraction and dimuon effective mass. The resulting energy loss per unit path length is -dE/dz = 2.32+/-0.52+/-0.5 GeV/fm. This is the first observation of a nonzero energy loss of partons traveling in a nuclear environment.  相似文献

The ferromagnetic spinels CdCr2Se4 and CuCr2Se4 were investigated by PAC (perturbed angular correlations) after implantation of the probes 111In(111Cd), 111mCd, 111Ag(111Cd) and 77Br(77Se). The site occupation of different probes was determined by magnetic and electric hyperfine interactions. Theoretical calculations of hyperfine parameters by the WIEN97 code gave satisfactory efg (electric field gradients) but the magnetic hyperfine fields are inconsistent with the experiments. We study the Central Exclusive Production (CEP) of χ cJ and η c mesons at RHIC in proton–proton collisions. We consider the χ cJ J/ψ + γ decay channels and, recalling that the J z =0 suppression of the J=1,2 states can be compensated by their larger branchings to J/ψ + γ, present predictions of rates and distributions for χ c(0,1,2) production. Particular attention is paid to the impact of p cuts applied to the outgoing protons, which can influence the relative rates significantly. The distribution in the azimuthal angle difference between the outgoing protons and the proton p^2p_{\perp}^{2} is also studied, and shown to depend sensitively on the spin and parity of the centrally produced meson, as well as being affected by the soft-survival factors, S 2. Two- and four-body decays, which are particularly relevant for χ c0 production, are also considered. We show that in the two-body case, backgrounds from ‘direct’ QCD production based on both perturbative and non-perturbative models are expected to be under control.  相似文献

The Telescope Array (TA) is the largest experiment in the Northern Hemisphere currently studying the origin and nature of ultra-high-energy cosmic rays above ~1018 eV by measuring their energy spectrum, mass composition, and arrival directions. It is located in the western desert of central Utah, USA. The TA detector consists of a surface array of 507 scintillation counters, deployed on a square grid of 1.2-km spacing that covers approximately 700 km2, and 38 fluorescence telescopes located at three sites looking over the surface array. The TA commenced hybrid observation with both sets of detectors in 2008. Here, we present recent results from these 5 years of data and outline our ongoing and near future plans.  相似文献
