Let be a variety of monotone bounded lattice expansions, that is, bounded lattices endowed with additional operations, each of which is order preserving or reversing in each coordinate. We prove that if is closed under MacNeille completions, then it is also closed under canonical extensions. As a corollary we show that in the case of Boolean algebras with operators, any such variety is generated by an elementary class of relational structures.

Our main technical construction reveals that the canonical extension of a monotone bounded lattice expansion can be embedded in the MacNeille completion of any sufficiently saturated elementary extension of the original structure.

After the big success of the first GISAXS workshop in 2005, HASYLAB/DESY hosted the “2nd GISAXS Workshop 2007” in Hamburg, Germany, from May 9 to 11, 2007. GISAXS stands for Grazing Incidence Small Angle X-ray Scattering, a powerful surface sensitive technique to observe structures on multiple length scales, ranging from some nanometers to up to several micrometers. Organized by R. Gehrke and S.V. Roth from HASYLAB and P. Müller-Buschbaum from Technical University Munich, the workshop attracted more than 100 participants from more than 20 countries, making up a very exciting and stimulating atmosphere with invited keynote lectures, two sessions with more than 50 contributed posters, and practical training including real data acquisition at HASYLAB beamline BW4 [1 Roth, S. Nuclear fission from excitation energies around 11 MeV was studied at GSI, Darmstadt for 76 neutron-deficient actinides and pre-actinides by use of relativistic secondary beams. The characteristics of multimodal fission of nuclei around 226Th are systematically investigated and related to the influence of shell effects on the potential-energy and on the level density between saddle point and scission. A systematic view on the large number of elemental yields measured gave rise to a new interpretation of the enhanced production of even elements in nuclear fission and allowed for a new understanding of pair breaking in fission.  相似文献

A polymer dispersion consisting of soft latex spheres with a diameter of 135 nm was used to produce a crystalline film with face-centered cubic (fcc) packing of the spheres. Different from conventional small-molecule and hard-sphere colloidal crystals, the crystalline latex film in the present case is soft (i.e., easily deformable). The structural evolution of this soft colloidal latex film under stretching was investigated by in-situ synchrotron ultra-small-angle X-ray scattering. The film exhibits polycrystalline scattering behavior corresponding to fcc structure. Stretching results not only in a large deformation of the crystallographic structure but also in considerable nonaffine deformation at high draw ratios. The unexpected nonaffine deformation was attributed to slippage between rows of particles and crystalline grain boundaries. The crystalline structure remains intact even at high deformation, suggesting that directional anisotropic colloidal crystallites can be easily produced.  相似文献

The installation of large scale colloidal nanoparticle thin films is of great interest in sensor technology or data storage. Often, such devices are operated at elevated temperatures. In the present study, we investigate the effect of heat treatment on the structure of colloidal thin films of polystyrene (PS) nanoparticles in situ by using the combination of grazing incidence small-angle X-ray scattering (GISAXS) and optical ellipsometry. In addition, the samples are investigated with optical microscopy, atomic force microscopy (AFM), and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM). To install large scale coatings on silicon wafers, spin-coating of colloidal pure PS nanoparticles and carboxylated PS nanoparticles is used. Our results indicate that thermal annealing in the vicinity of the glass transition temperature T(g) of pure PS leads to a rapid loss in the ordering of the nanoparticles in spin-coated films. For carboxylated particles, this loss of order is shifted to a higher temperature, which can be useful for applications at elevated temperatures. Our model assumes a softening of the boundaries between the individual colloidal spheres, leading to strong changes in the nanostructure morphology. While the nanostructure changes drastically, the macroscopic morphology remains unaffected by annealing near T(g).  相似文献

 Most particle-tracking velocimetry (PTV) algorithms are not suitable for calculating the velocity vectors of a fluid flow subjected to strong deformation, because these algorithms deal only with flows due to translation. Accordingly, it is necessary to develop a novel algorithm applicable to flows subjected to strong deformations such as rotation, shear, expansion and compression. This paper proposes a novel particle tracking algorithm using the velocity gradient tensor (VGT) which can deal with strong deformations and demonstrates that this algorithm is applicable to some basic fluid motions (rigidly rotating flow, Couette flow, and expansion flow). Furthermore, the performance of this algorithm is compared with the binary image cross-correlation method (BICC), the four-consecutive-time-step particle tracking method (4-PTV), and the spring model particle tracking algorithm (SPG) using simulations and experimental data. As a result, it is shown that this novel algorithm is useful and applicable for the highly accurate measurement and analysis of fluid flows subjected to strong deformations. X-ray absorption and magnetic circular dichroism spectra at both the Fe and Pt L(3,2) edges were measured on wet-chemically synthesized monodisperse Fe(50)Pt(50) particles with a mean diameter of 6.3 nm before and after complete removal of the organic ligands and the oxide shell covering the particles by soft hydrogen plasma resulting in a pure metallic state. After thermal treatment of the metallic particles, the coercive field increased by a factor of 6, the orbital magnetic moment at the Fe site increased by 330% and is reduced at the Pt site by 30%, while the effective spin moments did not change. A decrease of the frequency of oscillations in the extended x-ray absorption fine structure at the Pt L(3,2) edges provides evidence for crystallographic changes towards the L1(0) phase.  相似文献

Aquatic humic substances (HS), an important part of the dissolved organic carbon in freshwater systems, are polyfunctional natural compounds with polydisperse structure showing strong aggregation/coagulation behaviour at high HS concentrations and in the presence of metal ions. In this study, small-angle neutron scattering (SANS), small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) and X-ray microscopy (XRM) were applied to characterise the structure and aggregation processes of HS in solution. In SAXS and XRM the high brilliant synchrotron radiation was used as X-ray source. Applying small-angle scattering, information about the size distribution and shape of aquatic HS was obtained. Spherical HS units were found which were stable in a wide concentration range in a kind of "monomeric" state almost independent of pH and ionic strength. At higher concentrations they formed chain-like agglomerates or disordered HS structures. In studies on the coagulation behaviour of HS after addition of copper ions, a linear relationship between Cu(2+) concentration and the formation of large disordered HS-Cu(2+) agglomerates was obtained. By using X-ray microscopy, single "huge" particles were found in older solutions and in solutions with high HS concentrations. Over a threshold Cu(2+) concentration of approx. 300 mg/L, the formation of an extensive HS-Cu(2+) network structure was observed within a few minutes. The presented structures show the ability of the methods used to characterise processes between diluted phase and suspended matter, which play an important role particularly in the region of phase interfaces.  相似文献

A portable, battery-powered, multichannel analyzer (MCA) for use with Ge spectrometers has been developed for in-field use for the assay of x-and γ-ray emitting radionuclides. The spectrometer is capable of operating to rates greater than 150,000 counts per second. The analyzer is a Canberra InSpector MCA, that is equipped with the INEEL ultra-stable dual-energy pulser, and pulse injection with subsequent removal (PISR) circuitry. PCGAP, a set of MCA control and spectral analysis programs, was developed for use on a PC with a Windows NT Operating System. It includes an interactive peak analysis program as well as automatic spectral analysis programs for the X- and γ-ray regions, and a number of utility programs. The pulser peaks are calibrated with radioactive sources in terms of energy (i.e., their energy equivalents are measured) using the PCGAP spectral analysis package so that energy shifts, including those due to changes in temperature or count rate, do not cause a loss of energy calibration. The number of injected low- and high-energy-equivalent pulses is known so the stored pulser pulses can be used for a dead-time and random summing correction. The pulser peaks are also used to monitor any deterioration in spectral quality caused by noise, ground loops, etc. The results of performance tests to demonstrate the capabilities of this pulser-equipped InSpector are reported.  相似文献
