The change of polymerization method from conventional free radical polymerization to the reversible addition fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) method provided thermoresponsive behavior of upper critical solution temperature (UCST)‐type in water to copolymers of styrene (St) and acrylamide (AAm). Sample preparation conditions (temperature and time of dissolution) for turbidity measurements could also significantly influence the thermoresponsive behavior of polymers based on AAm. Poly(AAm‐co‐St)s made by RAFT method till high conversions showed sharp cloud points ranging 50–62 °C with low hysteresis in water depending upon the copolymer composition. Samples for turbidity measurements were prepared under optimized conditions, that is, 70 °C for 1.5 h. In contrast, the copolymers made by conventional radical polymerization in all copolymer composition range were not thermoresponsive. The example [poly(AAm‐co‐St)] emphasizes the importance of compositional homogeneity of macromolecular chains for showing UCST‐type transitions in water for a system with wide difference in reactivity ratios of the comonomers. Since, examples of polymeric systems showing UCST in water are not too many, this work highlights how compositional homogeneity would help in developing many more systems with tuned cloud points. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The de novo molecular design program SPROUT has been used in conjunction with the X-ray crystal structure of RNA polymerase (RNAP) from Thermus aquaticus to produce a novel enzyme inhibitor scaffold. A short and efficient synthesis of molecules corresponding to this scaffold has been developed and in keeping with the design predictions, the resulting inhibitors displayed useful levels of inhibition of Escherichia coli RNAP. 相似文献

We study a collaborative multicommodity flow game where individual players own capacity on the edges of the network and share this capacity to deliver commodities. Motivated by the problem of labeling maps, we investigate the problem of computing a large non-intersecting subset in a set of n rectangles in the plane. Our results are as follows. In O(n log n) time, we can find an O(log n)-factor approximation of the maximum subset in a set of n arbitrary axis-parallel rectangles in the plane. If all rectangles have unit height, we can find a 2-approximation in O(n log n) time. Extending this result, we obtain a (1 + 1/k)-approximation in time O(n log n + n2k−1) time, for any integer k ≥ 1. 相似文献

An amperometric sensor for detection of antibodies to Salmonella typhi in the serum of patients was developed. This involved usage of screen-printed electrodes and recombinant flagellin fusion protein. An indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbant assay was used for detection of antibodies to S. typhi in the patient serum. The screen-printed electrodes were made using polystyrene and graphite. These electrodes were tested for their ability to detect 1-naphthol, which is the product formed due to the hydrolysis of the substrate 1-naphthyl phosphate by the enzyme alkaline phosphatase. These electrodes were coated with recombinant flagellin fusion protein made by recombinant DNA technology and blocked with bovine serum albumin (BSA). Further they were incubated with patient serum and goat anti-human alkaline phosphatase conjugate. The immunosensing was performed by using amperometric method. Pooled human serum samples from apparently healthy individuals were used as control. Both the pooled healthy human serum samples and patient sera were subjected to Widal agglutination test and amperometric method. A 100% correlation was found between the Widal test and amperometric method. The time taken for the detection by electrochemical method is 1 h and 15 min, while the time taken by Widal test is 18 h. 相似文献
