A new type of measuring system, the Laser Reference Line, is proposed as a metrological tool and can be used within limited space to ensure a precise installation along an axis on the ATLAS interaction point. A simplified ATLAS like beam pipe mock-up is used for this test. The coordinates of the beam pipe are measured three times using the new method and a Total Station. The measurements agree within the measurement error of the Total Station, which indicates that the precision of the laser reference line is suitable for this specific task in the ATLAS experiment. 相似文献
Soil pollution by hydrocarbon compounds is an important part of the more general pollution problem. Some analogies with research problems encountered in studies of oil reservoirs in rocks suggested to us the opportunity to study the pollution dynamics by imaging the spatial distribution of the pollutant in a wet soil model by an NMR imaging technique. Parkinson's disease is a neurological disorder associated with disfunction of dopaminergic pathways of the basal ganglia. In this study, we report the effects of decreasing plasma concentrations of the dopamine-agonist apomorphine on the size and extents of activity clusters observed with functional magnetic resonance imaging during a simple motor task. Eight patients at advanced disease stage and six healthy volunteers were studied during four consecutive sessions. We observed consistent activations in the primary sensorimotor area of the contralateral side and in the supplementary motor area of both patients and controls during the first session. During subsequent sessions, while the drug concentration gradually decreased in patients, they showed a fragmentation of the activity areas, with an overall decrease of involved volume and a decline of activity in the supplementary motor area. The appearing of activity in the ipsilateral motor area matched a partial recovery of supplementary motor area activation. During the last session, when patients showed severe dyskinesia, a widespread region of positive and negative correlations between signal and task was observed. We conclude that the lack of subcortical circuitry is partially reversible by apomorphine and that when the drug effects are reduced, there is a possible mechanism recruitment of alternate subcortical pathways. 相似文献
In the present study, polymer nanocomposite layers for sensing applications are characterized by means of an optical method based on white light interferometry. The study focuses on poly (hydroxy ethyl methacrylate) (PHEMA) and on nanocomposite Carbon black (CB)/PHEMA layers commonly used in chemical sensor technology for volatile organic compounds (VOCs) detection. The interferometric spectra of these two different materials, recorded during analyte exposure, are analyzed in terms of film expansion. Comparison between PHEMA and PHEMA/CB layer shows that the nanocomposite undergoes a more pronounced swelling process. In order to achieve a better comprehension of the sensing mechanism and to improve the sensor performances, the variations of the electrical signal of a nanocomposite-based chemiresistor in presence of VOCs are examined and compared to the optical behaviour. 相似文献
A novel study about the synthesis of zirconia and calcia-stabilized zirconia powders were carried out by DC thermal plasma starting from cheap precursors as the carbonates. Different operational parameters were investigated to explore the effects of the process conditions, such as the plasma torch power and the gas flow rate on the composition and the morphology of the powders. The products phase changes from a metastable tetragonal to monoclinic/tetragonal mixture. Basically a main tetragonal phase was obtained at low torch power (7 kW) while the amount of monoclinic phase linearly rises with the power, up to 66 wt% at 26 kW of plasma power and high gas flow rate. The gas flow rate also affects the shape and the size of the powder, where high values reduce powder aggregation and enhance the spherical shape. The best results were achieved at 22 kW of plasma power and high gas flow rate, with powders of roundness about 79% and a wide particle size distribution. Adding the calcium carbonate to the zirconium carbonate (corresponding to 8 wt% CaO in the final mixture), the plasma treatment mainly produces a tetragonal phase zirconia, that at 1400 °C in furnace changes in a stable cubic phase. These powders could be made suitable for further industrial applications after proper treatments.
The aim of our work was to evaluate the feasibility of in vivo single-voxel quantitative proton MR spectroscopy in order to identify possible alterations in the main metabolite concentrations due to some metabolic dysfunctions in the cerebellum of patients suffering from a particular form of migraine called “with aura.” Measurements of metabolite levels in the cerebellum disclosed reduced choline values (normalized both to N-acetyl-aspartate and creatine) in the patient group with respect to the age-matched control group. Our interest in this pathology is motivated by the fact that there are no available specific biochemical markers for migraine characterization, and the current diagnostic only takes advantage of the medical history and the clinical examination. 相似文献

Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) techniques are based on the assumption that changes in neural activity are accompanied by modulation in the blood-oxygenation-level-dependent (BOLD) signal. In addition to conventional increases in BOLD signals, sustained negative BOLD signal changes are occasionally observed in many fMRI experiments, which show regions of cortex that seem to respond in antiphase with primary stimulus. The existence of this so-called negative BOLD response (NBR) has been observed and investigated in many functional studies. Several theoretical mechanisms have been proposed to account for it, but its origin has never been fully explained. In this study, the variability of fMRI activation, including the sources of the negative BOLD signal, during phonological and semantic language tasks, was investigated in six right-handed healthy subjects. We found significant activations in the brain regions, mainly in the left hemisphere, involved in the language stimuli [prominent in the inferior frontal gyrus, approximately Brodmann Areas (BA)7, BA44, BA45 and BA47, and in the precuneus]. Moreover, we observed activations in motor regions [precentral gyrus and supplementary motor area (SMA)], a result that suggests a specific role of these areas (particularly the SMA) in language processing. Functional analysis have also shown that certain brain regions, including the posterior cingulate cortex and the anterior cingulate cortex, have consistently greater activity during resting states compared to states of performing cognitive tasks. In our study, we observed diffuse NBR at the cortical level and a stronger negative response in correspondence to the main sinuses. These phenomena seem to be unrelated to a specific neural activity, appearing to be expressions of a mechanical variation in hemodynamics. We discussed about the importance of these responses that are anticorrelated with the stimulus. Our data suggest that particular care must be considered in the interpretation of fMRI findings, especially in the case of presurgical studies. 相似文献
We have tested several computational protocols, at the nonrelativistic DFT level of theory, for the calculation of 1J(119Sn, 13C) and 2J(119Sn, 1H) spin-spin coupling constants in di- and trimethyltin(IV) derivatives with various ligands. Quite a good agreement with experimental data has been found with several hybrid functionals and a double-zeta basis set for a set of molecules comprising tetra-, penta-, and hexa-coordinated tin(IV). Then, some of the protocols have been applied to the calculation of the 2J(119Sn, 1H) of the aquodimethyltin(IV) ion and dimethyltin(IV) complex with D-ribonic acid and to the calculation of 1J(119Sn, 13C) and 2J(119Sn, 1H) of the dimethyltin(IV)-glycylglycine and glycylhistidine complexes in water solutions. Solvent effects have been considered in these cases by including explicit water molecules and/or the solvent reaction field, resulting in a good agreement with experimental data. The proposed protocols constitute a helpful tool for the structural determination of di- and triorganotin(IV) derivatives. 相似文献
