Thermal conductivity of polyatomic gas mixtures and Wassiljewa form

Summary An effort is made to put the recently derived expression of multicomponent thermal conductivity of polyatomic gases by Saxena, Saksena, Gambhir and Gandhi in the familiar well-known Wassiljewa form. It is shown that this representation for the thermal conductivity coefficient is possible only when the pure thermal conductivity is replaced by a newly defined effective thermal conductivity, _eff. The two are interconnected and this relationship is critically examined.     

High resolution Fourier transform spectrum of GaCl

The electronic emission spectrum of the A³Π₀-X¹Σ⁺ and B³Π₁-X¹Σ⁺ transitions of Gallium monochloride molecule (⁶⁹GaCl) has been recorded on BOMEM DA8 Fourier transform spectrometer at an apodized resolution of 0.035 cm⁻¹. The rotational structure of the 0-0, 1-0, 2-1, and 3-2, bands belonging to A-X and 0-0, 0-1, 1-2, and 0-2 bands belonging to B-X transitions has been analyzed and equilibrium rotational constants for the X¹Σ⁺ and A³Π₀ states have been obtained. For the first time we are able to determine the Λ-doubling constants in the v = 0 and 1 levels of the B³Π₁ state.     

Stochastic optimal routing

Summary In this paper, we wish to introduce the idea of stochastic effects in optimal routing problems. This can be done by committing mistakes while making decisions. We will illustrate this idea by a classical puzzle: The Wine Pouring Problem.

New visible emission spectra of GaBr, GaCl and InCl. Prospects of new laser transitions

Broad emission spectra have been observed for the first time in the visible region at 4600, 5000 and 5750 Å and are assigned to the diatomic molecules GaBr, GaCl and InCl, respectively. No structure is seen on the low-frequency side, while on the high-frequency side, some undulatory fluctuation bands are observed. The electronic transition is identified as a transition from an upper bound singlet or a triplet electronic state to the lower C ¹Π state which is predissociated. These transitions hold the potential to be developed into an efficient excimer laser medium, similar to the laser action obtained in the rare gas halides.     

Isotope shift studies in the first spectrum of ytterbium

Isotope shift △σ (172–176) have been measured in 172 lines of the first spectrum of ytterbium in the region 3900–6500 Å employing a recording Fabry—Perot spectrometer and highly enriched isotopes excited in liquid-air-cooled hollow cathodes. Out of the 172 lines studied, energy level classifications are available for 167 of them. Isotope shift △T (172–176) of 62 even and 59 odd energy levels of Yb I have been evaluated and their electronic configurations discussed.     

Structure of protoveratrine C,a new alkaloid from provoveratrine

Single-crystal $\text{X}$-ray analysis has established that provoveratrine C, a third tetraester component of proveratrine, is protoverine 3-(2′$\text{S}$,3′$\text{R}$-2′,3′-dihydroxy-2′-methylbutyrate 6,7-diacetate 15-(2′$\text{R}$)-methylbutyrate.
