We show that the weak signal that remains after (13)C-detected experiments (the (13)C "afterglow") can still be measured with high sensitivity by proton detection. This is illustrated by the incorporation of two experiments, 2D (HA)CACO and 3D (HA)CA(CO)NNH, into a single pulse sequence that makes use of two receivers in parallel. In cases where the sensitivity is not limiting, such as applications to small proteins, the inclusion of the projection-reconstruction method permits the recording of both spectra in only 15 min. High-quality data sets for the 143 residue nuclease A inhibitor (2 °C, correlation time 17.5 ns) were obtained in 3 h, illustrating the utility of the method even in studies of moderately sized proteins.  相似文献

The recent introduction of NMR spectrometers with multiple receivers permits spectra from several different nuclear species to be recorded in parallel, and several standard pulse sequences to be combined into a single entity. It is shown how these improvements in the flow and quality of spectral information can be significantly augmented by compressive sensing techniques--controlled aliasing, Hadamard spectroscopy, single-point evaluation of evolution space (SPEED), random sampling, projection-reconstruction, and hyperdimensional NMR. Future developments of these techniques are confidently expected to mitigate one of the most serious limitations in multidimensional NMR--the excessive duration of the measurements.  相似文献

Random copolymers of poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) and poly(ethylene 2,6-naphthalate) (PEN) were synthesized by melt condensation. In a series of thin, solvent cast films of varying PEN content, acetone diffusivity and solubility were determined at 35°C and an acetone pressure of 5.4 cm Hg. The kinetics of acetone sorption in the copolymer films are well described by a Fickian model. Both solubility and diffusivity decrease with increasing PEN content. The acetone diffusion coefficient decreases 93% from PET to PET/85PEN, a copolymer in which 85 weight percent of the dimethyl terephthalate in PET has been replace by dimethyl naphthalate 2,6-dicarboxylate. The acetone solubility coefficient in the amorphous regions of the polymer decreases by approximately a factor of two over the same composition range. The glass/rubber transition temperatures of these materials rise monotonically with increasing PEN content. Copolymers containing 20 to 80 wt % PEN are amorphous. Samples with <20% or >80% PEN contain measurable levels of crystallinity. Estimated fractional free volume in the amorphous regions of these samples is lower in the copolymers than in either of the homopolymers. Relative free volume as probed by positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy (PALS) decreases systematically with increasing PEN content. Acetone diffusion coefficients correlate well with PALS results. Infrared spectroscopy suggests an increase in the fraction of ethylene glycol units in the trans conformation in the amorphous phase as the concentration of PEN in the copolymer increases. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Thermal transitions of a glassy, main chain, liquid crystalline, random copolyester, HIQ‐40, have been characterized. HIQ‐40 is made from 40 mol percent p‐hydroxybenzoic acid (HBA) and 30 mol % each of p‐hydroquinone (HQ) and isophthalic acid (IA). This polymer is soluble in organic solvents, permitting the preparation of thin, solution‐cast films that are in a glassy, metastable, optically isotropic state. On first heating of an isotropic HIQ‐40 film in a calorimeter, one glass transition is observed at low temperature (approximately 42°C), and is ascribed to the glass/rubber transition of the isotropic polymer. A cold crystallization exotherm centered near 150°C is observed. This is associated with the development of low levels of crystalline order. A broad melting endotherm is centered at about 310°C; this endotherm marks the melting of crystallites and the transformation to a nematic fluid. A nematic to isotropic transition was not observed by calorimetry. After quenching from the nematic melt, a Tg is observed in the range of 110–115°C and is associated with the glass/rubber transition of the nematically ordered polymer. Annealing optically isotropic films at temperatures above the isotropic glass transition results in the systematic development of axial order. In these annealed samples, Tg increases rapidly until it is near the annealing temperature, then Tg increases more slowly at longer annealing times. In as‐cast films annealed at 120–135°C, the light intensity transmitted through a sample held between crossed polarizers in an optical microscope (a qualitative measure of birefringence and, in turn, axial order) initially increases rapidly and uniformly throughout the sample and, at longer annealing times, approaches asymptotic values that are higher at higher annealing temperatures. The increase in transmitted intensity is ascribed to the development of axial order. The uniform increase in transmitted intensity suggests that ordering occurs by a rather global process and not via a nucleation and growth mechanism. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. This paper presents simulations of calcium carbonate ordering in contact with self-assembled monolayers. The calculations use potential-based molecular dynamics to model the crystallization of calcium carbonate to calcite expressing both the (00.1) and (01.2) surfaces. The effect of monolayer properties: ionization; epitaxial matching; charge density; and headgroup orientation on the crystallization process are examined in detail. The results demonstrate that highly charged surfaces are vital to stimulate ordering and crystallization. Template directed crystallization requires charge epitaxy between both the crystal surface and the monolayer. The orientation of the headgroup appears to make no contribution to the selection of the crystal surface.  相似文献

An inexpensive flow-injection instrument for determining low concentrations of dissolved reactive phosphorus in natural waters is reported. The unique feature is the use of an inexpensive detector consisting of a flow cell and a simple photometer that incorporates a super-bright light-emitting diode as the source and a photodiode as the detector. The tin(II) chloride-molybdate method was optimized using a modified simplex optimization method. Silicate interference up to 5 mg Si l?1 was removed by addition of 0.10% (w/v) tartaric acid. Using the tartaric acid-modified optimized reagents, a detection limit of 0.6 μg P l?1 was achieved. The method was linear over the range 0–100 μg P l?1 with an excellent precision (r.s.d. 2.9% at 2.0 and 0.5% at 50 μg P l?1). An in-line pre-concentration anion-exchange column was used to obtain an even lower detection limit of 0.1 μg P l?1 and applied to the analysis of real samples.  相似文献

We report measurements of residual vapour levels of xylenes and trimethylbenzenes, present following a floor re-surfacing procedure, using the technique of selected ion flow tube mass spectrometry (SIFT-MS). A subject exposed to controlled amounts of xylene and mesitylene was monitored by direct breath exhalation over a 4-hour period after exposure to the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) had stopped. The headspace gases above 5 mL blood samples taken over this period were also monitored. The decays of the solvent levels with time were fitted to a two-compartment model with residence times for xylene and mesitylene of 0.37 h and 0.38 h, respectively (compartment one) and 2.5 h and 2.8 h, respectively (compartment two).  相似文献

Four previously known rotational bands in 76Rb have been extended to moderate spins using the Gammasphere and Microball γ ray and charged particle detector arrays and the 40Ca(40Ca, 3pn) reaction at a beam energy of 165 MeV. The properties of two of the negative-parity bands can only readily be interpreted in terms of the highly successful Cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky model calculations if they have the same configuration in terms of the number of g9/2 particles, but they result from different nuclear shapes (one near-oblate and the other near-prolate). These data appear to constitute a unique example of shape coexisting structures at medium spins.  相似文献
