We report on the fabrication and characterization of solid-core all-polymer Bragg fibers consisting of a large-diameter polymethyl methylacrylate (PMMA) core surrounded by 50 alternating PMMA/Polystyrene (PS) polymer layers. By modifying the reflector layer thickness we illustrate that bandgap position can be adjusted at will in the visible. Moreover, such fibers are intensely colored in both the transmission and the outside reflection modes. Potential applications of such fibers are discussed.  相似文献

This study examined the amount of jaw opening used by two groups of singers, those with less than 4 years of training (novice) and those with more than 8 years of training (experienced) in the Western tradition of opera and art song. Movement of the jaw in the superior-inferior plane was measured with the use of a lightweight head-mounted cephalostat with a strain gauge. The subjects spoke and then sung a carrier phrase "I say b(v)p," where (v) was each of three vowels, [a], [i], and [u]. The phrase was first spoken with a natural inflection and then sung on a repeated pitch at three notes from the low, medium, and high singing voice range. There was no statistically significant difference in jaw opening between the two groups of singers. Vowel was significant for jaw opening in both groups, with [a] being produced with more jaw opening than [i] or [u]. The voicing condition was also significant for jaw opening with greater jaw opening being used as pitch increased. In general the amount of jaw opening was smallest for the low singing voice condition and greatest for the high singing voice condition. The jaw opening most typically was less in the low voice condition than in the speech condition and then increased for both the medium and high voice tasks. All but two singers used more jaw opening on the [a] vowel than the other two vowels at all voicing conditions.  相似文献

The objective of this work was to develop an industrially relevant olefin metathesis initiator, which circumvents the expensive, patent protected, often cumbersome preparative routes via Grubbs benzylidene complexes. Upon coordination of a Schiff base ligand to a second-generation ruthenium allenylidene complex, the formation of three catalyst isomers was observed. The major isomer was successfully isolated, and tested in a few olefin metathesis reactions. Acids such as HCl and HSiCl(3) were found to boost the metathesis reaction but the in situ formation of a neutral Ru carbyne complex restricted the catalytic capacity. Using the Lewis acid PhSiCl(3), the formation of a carbyne species was avoided, and turnover numbers up to 30,000 were reached in the ring-opening metathesis polymerisation of cycloocta-1,5-diene.  相似文献

The conversion of (C2.5F)n fluorine-graphite intercalation compounds (GIC) into covalent graphite fluoride during a post-treatment in pure F2 gas is studied by solid-state NMR. First, a careful characterization of the starting material is performed; in particular, for the first time for fluorinated carbons, two-dimensional 19F--> 13C cross-polarization wide-line separation (CP-WISE) experiments were carried out. This completes the classical NMR data such as 19F and 13C chemical shifts, quantitative 13C solid echo, and C-F bond length measurements, which were estimated by dipolar recoupling using inverse CP MAS. The data of the raw (C2.5F)n and of the samples post-fluorinated at 350, 450, and 550 degrees C were compared to investigate the C-F bonding as a function of the treatment temperature. The C-F bonding is discussed taking into account a hyperconjugation of the C-F bonds with neighboring unfluorinated carbon atoms.  相似文献

Selected ion flow tube mass spectrometry (SIFT-MS) has been employed to study the ion-molecule reactions of 17 alkyl esters reacting with the common SIFT-MS reagent ions, H3O+, H3O+.nH2O (n = 1, 2, 3), NO+, and O2+. The majority of reactions were observed to proceed at or near collision rate, with the exception of H3O+.3H2O, which was found to be slow for 8 of 17 alkyl esters. Unexpected product ions in the form of the parent carboxylic acid cation were observed to arise from the H3O+ and NO+ reactions of some alkyl esters. The observed reactions have been probed by the ab initio CBS-4M and G2(MP2,SVP) methods. The postulated reaction pathway involves a 1,5 H atom migration from a beta-carbon onto the carbonyl oxygen.  相似文献

The successful integration of living cells into synthetic devices requires precise control over cell patterning. Here we describe a versatile platform that can accomplish this goal through DNA hybridization. Living cells functionalized with exogenous cell-surface DNA strands bind to cognate sequences of DNA printed on glass slides. Attachment via these "cell-adhesion barcodes" is rapid and specific, with close-packed arrays of cells forming within minutes. The biophysical properties of the system are characterized, and the technique is used to form complex cellular patterns with single-cell line widths and self-assembled cellular microarrays. Key advantages of DNA-directed cell binding include the ability to immobilize both adherent and non-adherent cells, to capture cells selectively from a mixed population, to tune the binding properties of the cells, and to reuse substrates prepared with widely available DNA printing technologies.  相似文献

The synthesis of three novel racemic phenylpyridine-carbamate analogues of rhazinilam and their biological evaluation as inhibitors of microtubule assembly and disassembly by interaction with tubulin are described. The sterically hindered ortho-disubstituted biaryl unit as the challenging key structural element is first obtained by a sequential regiocontrolled nucleophilic addition of a lithium ortho-lithiohomobenzylic alkoxide species to 3-bromo-5-oxazolyl pyridine as the electrophile and a subsequent oxidation step. The incorporation of the amino group by replacement of the bromide has been achieved using a Buchwald-Hartwig amination coupling. Ultimate deprotection steps furnished free-amino and free-hydroxyl appendages which were connected by phosgenation to furnish the nine-membered median carbamate ring.  相似文献

The differentiation of proteins commonly found as binding media in paintings is presented based on spectrally resolved and time-resolved laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) and total emission spectroscopy. Proteins from eggs and animal glue were analysed with pulsed laser excitation at 248 nm (KrF excimer) and 355 nm (third harmonic of Nd:YAG) for spectrally resolved measurements, and at 337 nm (N2) and 405 nm (N2 pumped dye laser) for spectrally resolved lifetime measurements and fluorescence lifetime imaging (FLIM). Total emission spectra of binding media are used for the interpretation of LIF spectra. Time-resolved techniques become decisive with excitation at longer wavelengths as fluorescence lifetime permits the discrimination amongst binding media, despite minimal spectral differences; spectrally resolved measurements of fluorescence lifetime have maximum differences between the binding media examined using excitation at 337 nm, with maximum observed fluorescence at 410 nm. FLIM, which measures the average lifetime of the emissions detected, can also differentiate between media, is non-invasive and is potentially advantageous for the analysis of paintings.
