Surface Interaction of Ionic Liquids: Stabilization of Polyethylene Terephthalate-Degrading Enzymes in Solution

The effect of aqueous solutions of selected ionic liquids solutions on Ideonella sakaiensis PETase with bis(2-hydroxyethyl) terephthalate (BHET) substrate were studied by means of molecular dynamics simulations in order to identify the possible effect of ionic liquids on the structure and dynamics of enzymatic Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) hydrolysis. The use of specific ionic liquids can potentially enhance the enzymatic hydrolyses of PET where these ionic liquids are known to partially dissolve PET. The aqueous solution of cholinium phosphate were found to have the smallest effect of the structure of PETase, and its interaction with (BHET) as substrate was comparable to that with the pure water. Thus, the cholinium phosphate was identified as possible candidate as ionic liquid co-solvent to study the enzymatic hydrolyses of PET.     

Highly selective thiocyanate poly(vinyl chloride) membrane electrode based on a cadmium–Schiff’s base complex

A PVC membrane electrode based on a cadmium–salen (N,N′-bis-salicylidene-1,2ethylenediamine) complex as an anion carrier is described. The electrode has an anti-Hofmeister selectivity sequence with a preference for thiocyanate at pH 1.5–11.0. It has a linear response to thiocyanate from 1.0 × 10^–6 to 1.0 × 10^–1 mol L^–1 with a slope of 59.1 ± 0.2 mV per decade, and a detection limit of 7 × 10^–7 mol L^–1. This electrode has high selectivity for thiocyanate relative to many common organic and inorganic anions. The proposed sensor has a fast response time of approximately 15 s. Uranium recovery from UCF liquid waste by nanoporous MCM-41: breakthrough capacity and elution behavior studies

Adsorption and recovery of uranium by nanoporous MCM-41 from aqueous solutions (synthetic solution and uranium conversion facility liquid waste) were investigated by use of a fixed-bed column (1.2 cm diameter and 3.0 cm height). Adsorption was carried out at flow rates 0.2 and 0.5 mL min^?1, which correspond to retention times of 10 and 6 min. The maximum breakthrough capacity for uranium ions was achieved by use of nanoporous MCM-41 at the optimum pH of 3.6 and flow rate 0.2 mL min^?1 (61.95 μg g^?1). The Thomas and Yan models were applied to the experimental data, by use of linear regression, to determine the characteristics of the column for process design. The breakthrough curves calculated from the models were in good agreement with the experimental data. The elution behavior of uranium on nanoporous MCM-41 was studied with different eluents; the results showed that 0.1 M HCl is good eluent for uranium recovery. The regenerated column could be used in a multitude of adsorption–desorption cycles.     

One-pot Synthesis of 1,8-Dioxo-decahydroacridine Derivatives in Aqueous Media

A new and efficient method for the synthesis of 1,8‐dioxo‐9‐aryl‐decahydroacridine derivatives was developed via a one‐pot three component reaction of dimedone, aromatic aldehydes and ammonium acetate in the presence of ammonium chloride, or Zn(OAc)₂·2H₂O or L‐proline separately in water in the short period of time and high yields.     

Multicomponent reactions for the synthesis of new cyclopentadienephosphonate derivatives in water

A series of polysubstituted cyclopentadienephosphonate derivatives were synthesized via one-pot multicomponent reactions of primary amines and phosphites with activated acetylenic compounds in water as the solvent at room temperature.

Particularly valuable features of this method include high yields of products, broad substrate scope, short reaction time and a straightforward procedure.     

NH2SO3H and H6P2W18O62 · 18H2O-Catalyzed,Three-Component,One-Pot Synthesis of Benzo[c]acridine Derivatives

We report here two simple methods for the synthesis of benzo[c]acridine derivatives from three-component, one-pot condensation of 1-naphthylamine, dimedone, and a variety of substituted aldehydes in the presence of a catalytic amount of NH₂SO₃H or H₆P₂W₁₈O₆₂ · 18H₂O under solvent-free conditions at 120 °C or in refluxing ethanol.     

Simultaneous Determination of Ultra Trace of Uranium and Cadmium by Adsorptive Cathodic Stripping Voltammetry Using H‐Point Standard Addition Method

A sensitive adsorptive cathodic stripping voltammetry with H‐point standard addition method for simultaneous determination of uranium and cadmium has been developed. The trace amounts of these metal ions can be simultaneously determined using the Levodpa as complexing agent. Optimal conditions were: accumulation time 50 s, accumulation potential 0.0 mV, scan rate 40 mV s^?1, supporting electrolyte 0.1 M ammonium buffer pH 9.6, and 1×10^?5 M of Levodopa. The results revealed that the cadmium and uranium could be simultaneously determined by H‐point standard addition method with different concentration ratios of uranium to cadmium. The method was successfully applied in a several of real samples.     

Density and viscosity of 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium nitrate with ethanol, 1-propanol, or 1-butanol at several temperatures

Densities and viscosities of 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium nitrate [Bmim][NO₃], and its binaries with alcohol (ethanol, 1-propanol, or 1-butanol) were measured at different temperatures. The densities and viscosities of pure ionic liquid were correlated successfully by empirical equations. The Vogel–Fulcher–Tammann equations can fit the experimental data of viscosities for pure IL. Excess molar volume and viscosity deviations were calculated for the binaries. The excess molar volumes have negative deviations from the ideal solution.     

Application of Heteropolyacids as Heterogeneous and Recyclable Catalysts for One-Pot Synthesis of 3-Cyanopyridine Derivatives

A simple, clean and environmentally benign route to the synthesis of 3-cyanopyridines is described via a one-pot multi-component reaction of 3,4-dimethoxyacetophenone, malonitrile or ethylcyanoacetate, aldehyde and ammonium acetate using heteropolyacids as heterogeneous and recyclable catalysts in very good yields.
