This work investigates the flow of a third grade fluid in a rotating frame of reference. The fluid is incompressible and magnetohydrodynamic (MHD). The flow is bounded between two porous plates, the lower of which is shrinking linearly. Mathematical modelling of the considered flow leads to a nonlinear problem. The solution of this nonlinear problem is computed by the homotopy analysis method (HAM). Graphs are presented to demonstrate the effect of several emerging parameters, which clearly describe the flow characteristics.  相似文献

Vibrio cholerae causes the diarrheal disease cholera which affects millions of people globally. The outer membrane protein U (OmpU) is the outer membrane protein that is most prevalent in V. cholerae and has already been recognized as a critical component of pathogenicity involved in host cell contact and as being necessary for the survival of pathogenic V. cholerae in the host body. Computational approaches were used in this study to screen a total of 37,709 natural compounds from the traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) database against the active site of OmpU. Following a sequential screening of the TCM database, we report three lead compounds—ZINC06494587, ZINC85510056, and ZINC95910434—that bind strongly to OmpU, with binding affinity values of −8.92, −8.12, and −8.78 kcal/mol, which were higher than the control ligand (−7.0 kcal/mol). To optimize the interaction, several 100 ns molecular dynamics simulations were performed, and the resulting complexes were shown to be stable in their vicinity. Additionally, these compounds were predicted to have good drug-like properties based on physicochemical properties and ADMET assessments. This study suggests that further research be conducted on these compounds to determine their potential use as cholera disease treatment.  相似文献

Gastric cancer is the fifth most frequent cancer and the third major cause of mortality worldwide. Helicobacter pylori, a bacterial infection linked with GC, injects the cytotoxin-associated antigen A (CagA; an oncoprotein) into host cells. When the phosphorylated CagA protein enters the cell, it attaches to other cellular components, interfering with normal cellular signaling pathways. CagA plays an important role in the progression of GC by interacting with phosphatidylserine of the host cell membrane. Therefore, disrupting the CagA–phosphatidylserine connection using small molecules appears to be a promising therapeutic approach. In this report, we screened the natural compounds from ZINC database against the CagA protein using the bioinformatics tools. Hits were initially chosen based on their physicochemical, absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion, and toxicity (ADMET) characteristics, as well as other drug-like characteristics. To locate safe and effective hits, the PAINS filter, binding affinities estimation, and interaction analysis were used. Three compounds with high binding affinity and specificity for the CagA binding pocket were discovered. The final hits, ZINC153731, ZINC69482055, and ZINC164387, were found to bind strongly with CagA protein, with binding energies of −11.53, −10.67, and −9.21 kcal/mol, respectively, which were higher than that of the control compound (−7.25 kcal/mol). Further, based on binding affinity and interaction pattern, two leads (ZINC153731, ZINC69482055) were chosen for molecular dynamics (MD) simulation analysis. MD results showed that they displayed stability in their vicinity at 100 ns. This study suggested that these compounds could be used as possible inhibitors of CagA protein in the fight against GC. However, additional benchwork tests are required to validate them as CagA protein inhibitors.  相似文献

Anabasis articulata is medicinally used to treat various diseases. In this study, A. articulata was initially subjected to extraction, and the resultant extracts were then evaluated for their antimicrobial, antioxidant, and antidiabetic potentials. After obtaining the methanolic extract, it was subjected to a silica gel column for separation, and fractions were collected at equal intervals. Out of the obtained fractions (most rich in bioactive compounds confirmed through HPLC), designated as A, B, C, and D as well hexane fraction, were subjected to GC-MS analysis, and a number of valuable bioactive compounds were identified from the chromatograms. The preliminary phytochemical tests were positive for the extracts where fraction A exhibited the highest total phenolic and flavonoid contents. The hexane fraction as antimicrobial agent was the most potent, followed by the crude extract, fraction A, and fraction D. DPPH and ABTS assays were used to estimate the free radical scavenging potential of the extracts. Fraction C was found to contain potent inhibitors of both the tested radicals, followed by fraction D. The potential antidiabetic extracts were determined using α-glucosidase and amylase as probe enzymes. The former was inhibited by crude extract, hexane, and A, B, C and D fractions to the extent of 85.32 ± 0.20, 61.14 ± 0.49, 62.15 ± 0.84, 78.51 ± 0.45, 72.57 ± 0.92 and 70.61 ± 0.91%, respectively, at the highest tested concentration of 1000 µg/mL with their IC50 values 32, 180, 200, 60, 120 and 140 µg/mL correspondingly, whereas α-amylase was inhibited to the extent of 83.98 ± 0.21, 58.14 ± 0.75, 59.34 ± 0.89, 81.32 ± 0.09, 74.52 ± 0.13 and 72.51 ± 0.02% (IC50 values; 34, 220, 240, 58, 180, and 200 µg/mL, respectively). The observed biological potentials might be due to high phenolic and flavonoid content as detected in the extracts. The A. articulata might thus be considered an efficient therapeutic candidate and could further be investigated for other biological potentials along with the isolation of pure responsible ingredients.  相似文献

To ensure the better production and sustainable management of natural resources, a chemometric investigation was conducted to examine the effect of cooperative and harvesting periods on the crop yields and chemical compositions of Salvia rosmarinus Spenn essential oils in the Oriental region of Morocco. The samples were collected from three cooperatives over nine time periods from January 2018 to April 2019. The chemical composition of Salvia rosmarinus Spenn essential oils was analyzed by gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry. The data from this study were processed by multivariate analyses, including principal component analysis (PCA) and hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA). The disc diffusion technique and a determination of the minimal inhibitory concentration were performed to study the antibacterial properties of the oils. Statistical analysis showed that the cooperative and harvest period have a significant effect on yields. The highest yield of essential oil was recorded in April 2019 at cooperative C1. The PCA and the HCA results were divided into two groups: Group A for the summer season and group B for the winter season. The samples collected during summer were characterized by a high amount of 1,8-cineole component and a high yield of essential oil, whereas the samples collected during winter were qualified by a high amount of α-pinene component and a low yield of essential oil. The antibacterial activity of Salvia rosmarinus Spenn essential oils showed that Mycobacterium smegmatis ATCC23857 and Bacillus subtilis ATCC 23857 are the most susceptible strains, stopping growth at 1/500 (v/v). The least susceptible strain is Escherichia coli ATCC25922, with an MIC value corresponding to 1/250 (v/v). The findings of this study could have a positive economic impact on the exploitation of rosemary in the Oriental region, especially during the best harvest periods, as they indicate how to obtain the best yields of oils richest in 1,8-cineole and α-pinene chemotypes.  相似文献

Regional migration has become an underlying factor in the spread of HIV transmission. In addition, immigrants with HIV status has contributed with high‐risk of sexually transmitted infection to its “destination” communities and promotes dissemination of HIV. Efforts to address HIV/AIDS among conflict‐affected populations should be properly addressed to eliminate potential role of the spread of the disease and risk of exposure to HIV. Motivated from this situation, HIV‐infected immigrants factor to HIV/SIV transmission link will be investigated in this research and examine its potential effect using optimal control method. Nonlinear deterministic mathematical model is used which is a multiple host model comprising of humans and chimpanzees. Some basic properties of the model such as invariant region and positivity of the solutions will be examined. The local stability of the disease‐free equilibrium was examined by computing the basic reproduction number, and it was found to be locally asymptotically stable when ?0<1 and unstable otherwise. Sensitivity analysis was conducted to determine the parameters that help most in the spread of the virus. Pontryagin's maximum principle is used to obtain the optimality conditions for controlling the disease spread. Numerical simulation was conducted to obtain the analytical results. The results shows that combination of public health awareness, treatment, and culling help in controlling the HIV disease spread.  相似文献

We report an evaluation of the use of Binding's method (Ref 11) for determining extensional viscosity values from capillary die rheometry entrance pressure drop data. A constitutive relation defining the fluid's rheological behaviour is first postulated, from which the pressure drop in a contraction region is calculated by numerical simulation for a range of flow rates. Extensional viscosity estimates are then made from the simulated pressure drop data using Binding's method, and these estimates are compared with the exact extensional viscosity determined from the constitutive relation. A highly accurate augmented spectral method is used to perform the numerical simulation. The Binding estimates obtained are good for certain types of fluid, but poor for others. A simple empirical correction of the Binding method, however, is found to give good agreement in all the cases studied.  相似文献

The adsorptive removal of lead (II) from aqueous medium was carried out by chemically modified silica monolith particles. Porous silica monolith particles were prepared by the sol-gel method and their surface modification was carried out using trimethoxy silyl propyl urea (TSPU) to prepare inorganic–organic hybrid adsorbent. The resultant adsorbent was evaluated for the removal of lead (Pb) from aqueous medium. The effect of pH, adsorbent dose, metal ion concentration and adsorption time was determined. It was found that the optimum conditions for adsorption of lead (Pb) were pH 5, adsorbent dose of 0.4 g/L, Pb(II) ions concentration of 500 mg/L and adsorption time of 1 h. The adsorbent chemically modified SM was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), BET/BJH and thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA). The percent adsorption of Pb(II) onto chemically modified silica monolith particles was 98%. An isotherm study showed that the adsorption data of Pb(II) onto chemically modified SM was fully fitted with the Freundlich and Langmuir isotherm models. It was found from kinetic study that the adsorption of Pb(II) followed a pseudo second-order model. Moreover, thermodynamic study suggests that the adsorption of Pb(II) is spontaneous and exothermic. The adsorption capacity of chemically modified SM for Pb(II) ions was 792 mg/g which is quite high as compared to the traditional adsorbents. The adsorbent chemically modified SM was regenerated, used again three times for the adsorption of Pb(II) ions and it was found that the adsorption capacity of the regenerated adsorbent was only dropped by 7%. Due to high adsorption capacity chemically modified silica monolith particles could be used as an effective adsorbent for the removal of heavy metals from wastewater.  相似文献
