Despite the prevalent belief about a strong anisotropy of the magnetic exchange in rare-earth compounds, Cs3Yb2Cl9 and Cs3Yb2Br9 crystals are found to exhibit fully isotropic exchange coupling between Yb3+ ions. In this article, we attempt to reveal the physical origin of this surprising feature. Our theoretical consideration is based on a model of the kinetic exchange between two octahedrally coordinated Yb3+ ions in their ground Kramers doublet states. It is shown that a mechanism of kinetic exchange involving intercenter electron hopping between 4f orbitals of two Yb3+ ions in a face-shared binuclear unit results in fully isotropic antiferromagnetic exchange coupling, while a mechanism in which the electron jumps from the 4f to the 5d orbital gives rise to a highly anisotropic interaction. Comparison of these results with the experimental data along with qualitative arguments regarding the relative significance of these two contributions to the overall exchange indicate that, in face-shared Yb3+ binuclear units, the 4f <--> 4f mechanism plays a dominant role.  相似文献

The stability and efficiency of an anaerobic reactor containing biomass immobilized on polyurethane foam were assessed. The reactor with mechanical stirring of 500 rpm and maintained at 30+/-1 degrees C treated synthetic wastewater with a concentration of approx 500 mg of chemical oxygen demand/L and was fed with different influent volumes and cycle times maintaining organic load. Operation was in batch mode with renewal of only part of the volume of wastewater to be treated; that is reactor discharge was not complete, but partial. The main operational characteristic investigated was the ratio of the volume of wastewater fed per cycle (VA) to the volume of wastewater in the reactor (VA) maintaining the same volumetric organic load. This way, operating flexibility could be verified in relation to the volume of treated wastewater at each cycle and the cycle time for the same organic load. The results indicated that the reactor was able to operate with different VA/Vu ratios with no significant loss in performance, thus allowing increased operational flexibility. For conditions in which VA was >or=50% of VA, removal efficiencies of filtered and nonfiltered organic matter were about 84 and 79%, respectively, whereas at conditions of higher initial influent dilution, these efficiencies were slightly lower, about 80 and 74%, respectively. At higher initial influent dilutions, it became difficult to maintain a constant reactor medium volume, owing to a high formation rate of viscous polymer-like material, likely of microbiologic origin.  相似文献

The hydrolysis-polycondensation behaviour of alcoholic solutions containing Si(OEt)4 and Ti(OBun)4, in different molar ratios (Si/Ti = 10-0.2), was analysed by laser desorption/ionisation (LDI) and matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionisation (MALDI) mass spectrometry. The solutions were prepared using operating conditions usually employed in the sol-gel synthesis of SiO2-TiO2 materials. In accord with the well-known procedures for controlling the different chemical reactivities of the alkoxides, the pre-hydrolysis of the slower reacting silicon ethoxide and the chelation by acetylacetone of the faster reacting titanium butoxide were performed before mass spectrometric analysis. While LDI-MS did not provide evidence for the presence of mixed Si-Ti species in samples obtained from these reactions, MALDI-MS of samples diluted with chloroform and using 2,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid (DHB) as matrix led to detection of various oligomers with different contents of Si and Ti atoms. The results suggest that the formation of Si-Ti mixed oligomers seems to be the favoured process, especially for solutions in which one of the two components is diluted.  相似文献

The unusual mixing behavior of polyisobutylene (PIB) with head-to-head (hhPP) and head-to-tail polypropylene (PP) is studied using large-scale molecular dynamics (MD). The heats of mixing and Flory chi parameters were computed from MD simulations of both blends using a united atom model. The chi parameters from the simulations were estimated from the structure factors using the random phase approximation in analogy with neutron scattering (SANS) experiments. MD simulations for syndiotactic hhPP/PIB predicted a lower critical solution temperature with a chi parameter in very good agreement with SANS experiments on the atactic hhPP/PIB blend. MD simulations also predicted that the isotactic PP/PIB blend was immiscible at high molecular weight in qualitative agreement with cloud point measurements on atactic PP/PIB.  相似文献

The TOPological Substructural MOlecular DEsign (TOPS-MODE) approach has been used to predict the anti-HIV activity in MT-4 assays (Estrada et al., 2002) of a diverse range of purine-based nucleosides. A database of 206 nucleosides has been selected from the literature and a theoretical virtual screening model has been developed. The model is able of discriminating between compounds that have anti-HIV activity and those that do not, with a good classification level of 85% in the training and 82.8% in the cross-validation series. On the basis of the information generated by the model, the correct classification of practically 80% of compounds from an external prediction set has been achieved using the theoretical model. Furthermore, the contribution of a range of molecular fragments to the pharmacological action has been calculated and this could provide a powerful tool in the design of nucleoside analogues that show activity against the HIV. Finally, a QSAR model has been developed that allows quantitative data to be obtained regarding the pharmacological potency shown by this type of compound.  相似文献

The magnetic exchange interactions in a C0(3)(11) moiety encapsulated in Na(17) [(NaOH(2))Co(3)(H(2)O)(P(2)W(15)O(56))(2)] (NaCo(3)) were studied by a combination of magnetic measurements (magnetic susceptibility and low-temperature magnetization), with a detailed Inelastic Neutron Scattering (INS) investigation. The novel structure of the salt was determined by X-ray crystallography. The ferromagnetic Co(3)O(14) triangular cluster core consists of three octahedrally oxo-coordinated Co(II) ions sharing edges. According to the single-ion anisotropy and spin-orbit coupling usually assumed for octahedral Co(II) ions, the appropiate exchange Hamiltonian to describe the ground-state properties of the isosceles triangular Co(3) spin cluster is anisotropic and is expressed as H = - 2sigma(alpha)(=)(x,y,z)(J(alpha)(12)S(1alpha)S(2alpha) + J(alpha)(23)S(2alpha)S(3alpha) + J(alpha)(13)S(1alpha)S(3alpha)), where J(alpha) are the components of the exchange interactions between the Co(II) ions. To reproduce the INS data, nonparallel anisotropic exchange tensors needed to be introduced, which were directly connected to the molecular symmetry of the complex. The following range of parameters (value +/- 0.5 cm(-1)) was found to reproduce all experimental information while taking magnetostructural relations into account: J(x)(12) = J(y)(13) = 8.6 cm(-1); J(y)(12) = J(x)(13) = 1.4 cm(-1); J(z)(12) = J(z)(13) = 10.0 cm(-1); J(x)(23) = J(y)(23) = 6.5 cm(-1) and = 3.4 cm(-1).  相似文献
