Simultaneous analysis of the ν1 + ν2 and ν2 + ν3 bands of hydrogen telluride

The vibration-rotation absorption bands ν₁ + ν₂ and ν₂ + ν₃ of H₂Te, which overlap one another near 2900 cm^?1, have been analyzed using recently developed formulas. Because the upper states of these two bands are coupled through the interaction terms G_c(q₁p₃ ? q₃p₁)P_z and G_abq₁q₃(P_xP_y + P_yP_x) in the Hamiltonian, we have analyzed them simultaneously by numerically diagonalizing the perturbed planar Hamiltonian matrix with the interaction terms included. The observed absorption lines from the six most abundant tellurium isotopes have been fit simultaneously by including mass dependencies for the terms A, C, and ν₀ for upper and ground states. Values have been determined for the upper state constants ν₀, A, B, $\text{C}{}^1$ the four centrifugal distortion taus, and the sixth power term H_K for each of the two bands, the interaction terms G_c and G_ab between the two bands, and the ground state constants, as well as the mass dependency terms.     

Infrared spectra of some matrix-isolated germanium,tin, and lead chalcogenides

Infrared spectra are reported for GeS, GeSe, GeTe, SnS, SnSe, PbS and PbSe in argon and nitrogen matrices at 12°K. The absorptions due to the matrix-isolated diatomic IV–VI molecules show considerable isotopic structure. The dimer absorptions are treated in terms of a D_2h planar model and indicate that the dimers have nearly square geometries and that the bond stretching force constants in the dimers are about half those of the diatomic molecules.     

On conditional probability in GL spaces

The experimental determination of fluctuation line profiles in a weakly turbulent plasma

In a weakly turbulent plasma, the frequencies of fluctuations approximate to those determined by linear instability theory but with a significant spread. We determine the line profiles for drift waves in quadrupole geometry, showing that while they sometimes confirm to the expected lorentzian shape, profiles of gaussian shape are also observed; however, it is not yet certain that these are intrinsic to the drift waves rather than deriving from external random perturbations.
