Acrylate-ester-based monoliths for CEC using peroxodisulfate as a chemical initiator were prepared. The influence of two ternary porogenic solvents on the physical and chromatographic properties of butyl acrylate monolithic stationary phases was investigated. The composition and the ratio of porogenic solvent were adjusted to obtain highly permeable rigid monoliths with adequate column efficiency. Among the prepared butyl acrylate monoliths, those polymerized from a ternary porogenic solvent of acetonitrile/ethanol/water exhibited the most promising performance with a minimum plate height for naphthalene of 10.5 microm and a bed permeability of 7.3 x 10(-14) m(2). A comparison in terms of efficiency and permeability with thermal and UV initiation using alpha,alpha'-AIBN was also performed. The resulting monolithic stationary phases were evaluated in terms of reproducibility, giving RSD values below 5.1% in the electrochromatographic properties studied. 相似文献

Gadolinium-based contrast agents (GBCAs) are used to provide diagnostic information in clinical magnetic resonance (MR) examinations. Gadolinium (Gd) has been detected in the brain, bone and skin of patients, months and years following GBCA administration, raising concerns about long term toxicity. Despite increased scrutiny, the concentration, chemical form and fate of the retained gadolinium species remain unknown. Importantly, the whole body biodistribution and organ clearance of GBCAs is poorly understood in humans. Gadolinium lacks suitable isotopes for nuclear imaging. We demonstrate that the yttrium-86 isotope can be used as a gadolinium surrogate. We show that Gd and their analogous Y complexes have similar properties both in solution and in vivo, and that yttrium-86 PET can be used to track the biodistribution of GBCAs over a two-day period. 相似文献

Two artificial photosynthetic antenna models consisting of a Si phthalocyanine (Pc) bearing two axially attached carotenoid moieties having either 9 or 10 conjugated double bonds are used to illustrate some of the function of carotenoids in photosynthetic membranes. Both models studied in toluene, methyltetrahydrofuran, and benzonitrile exhibited charge separated states of the type C*+-Pc*- confirming that the quenching of the Pc S1 state is due to photoinduced electron transfer. In hexane, the Pc S1 state of the 10 double bond carotenoid-Pc model was slightly quenched but the C*+-Pc*- transient was not spectroscopically detected. A semiclassical analysis of the data in hexane at temperatures ranging from 180 to 320 K was used to demonstrate that photoinduced electron transfer could occur. The model bearing the 10 double bond carotenoids exhibits biexponential fluorescence decay in toluene and in hexane, which is interpreted in terms of an equilibrium mixture of two isomers comprising s-cis and s-trans conformers of the carotenoid. The shorter fluorescence lifetime is associated with an s-cis carotenoid conformer where the close approach between the donor and acceptor moieties provides through-space electronic coupling in addition to the through-bond component. 相似文献

The phase transitions and the orientational behavior of liquid crystalline poly(triethylene glycol p,p′-bibenzoate) have been studied. The real-time synchrotron diffraction results indicate that, on cooling from the isotropic
melt, an orthogonal SmA mesophase is formed first, and later it is transformed into a tilted SmC mesophase. However, the SmA
mesophase is stable in a rather wide temperature interval, and the transformation into the SmC phase occurs at temperatures
close to the glass transition, so that not very high tilting angles are attained. The uniaxial deformation of the SmC mesophase
indicates that usual parallel orientation of the molecular axes in relation to the stretching direction is obtained at high
strain rates, while anomalous perpendicular orientation occurs at low deformation rates, with the smectic layers aligned with
the stretching direction and the molecular axes almost perpendicular. A mixture of the two types of orientation is observed

The use of Fourier transform mid-infrared spectroscopy with attenuated total reflection for characterizing entomopathogenic nematodes is evaluated for the first time. The resulting spectra of Steinernema glaseri and Heterorhabditis indica were compared with the spectrum of Caenorhabditis elegans. In the absorption spectra generated by the nematodes samples, the absorption bands were assigned to the molecular species and some important components were identified including triglycerides, trehalose, glycogen and collagen. The dissipation of energy as heat is essential for photosynthetic organisms to protect themselves against excess light. We compared Photosystem II florescence changes (non-photochemical quenching, NPQ) in the brown alga Macrocystis pyrifera with that of Ficus sp., a higher plant to examine if the mechanism of heat dissipation (energy-dependent quenching, qE) differs between these evolutionary distant groups of phototrophs. We discovered that M. pyrifera had a slower rise of NPQ upon illumination than the Ficus sp. Further, the NPQ relaxation phase that takes place in the first minutes after light to dark transition is absent in this brown alga. We found that the NPQ induction rate in this alga was 1.5 times faster in preilluminated samples than in dark-adapted samples; this was associated with an increase in the rate of accumulation of the carotenoid zeaxanthin. Therefore, we conclude that NPQ in M. pyrifera is associated only with the formation of zeaxanthin. These results indicate that M. pyrifera lacks the fast component of qE that is related to allosteric changes in the light harvesting complexes of Ficus sp., a representative of higher plants. Although the xanthophyll cycle of this brown alga is similar to that of Ficus sp., yet, the transthylakoid proton gradient (ΔpH) does not influence NPQ beyond the activation of the violaxanthin de-epoxidase enzyme. These findings suggest that NPQ control mechanisms are not universal and we suggest that it may have diverged early in the evolution of different groups of eukaryotic phototrophs. 相似文献
