The networks of cellulose acetate and hydroxypropylcellulose prepared in the first part of this investigation were studied with regard to their mechanical properties. The quantities of particular interest were increases in tensile modulus and tensile strength obtained by drying the swollen films under strain, both uniaxial and equi-biaxial. These increases or improvements in mechanical properties were determined as a function of polymer concentration during cross-linking, polymer molecular weight, degree of cross-linking, and elongation during drying. In all cases, the improvements increased with increase in elongation during drying, and the largest increases were obtained in the case of the highest molecular weight polymer which had been lightly cross-linked in dilute (isotropic) solutions. The extent of ordering in these systems was gauged approximately by measurements of birefringence, which were correlated with their tensile moduli and tensile strengths.  相似文献

It has been predicted that unusually good mechanical properties can be obtained by drying swollen networks of semi-rigid chains while they are in the deformed state, as described in several theoretical investigations [Macromolecules,23: 5335, 5341 (1990),24: 901 (1991)]. The present investigation involves the preparation of networks of this type from cellulose acetate (CA) and hydroxypropylcellulose (HPC), in order to test these concepts. The cross-linking required to maintain anisotropy during the drying process was obtained using formaldehyde, while the polymers were in either the anisotropic or isotropic state. Control of the cross-linking was obtained by studying the effects of the concentration of formaldehyde, temperature, and reaction time.The liquid-crystalline phase separations in CA and HPC, and in their networks, were studied with cross-polarized optical microscopy. CA and HPC showed anisotropic phases in trifluoroethanol and in methanol, respectively, and under shear the HPC systems exhibited the band textures associated with macroscopic orientation. In the case of the uncross-linked polymers, this band texture disappeared shortly after shearing was discontinued. The networks prepared by cross-linking the HPC in either liquid-crystalline solutions or in isotropic solutions also showed band textures, but these textures now persisted long after removal of the shearing stress. As shown in the following paper, the extensibility required in the proposed processing technique was highest for the networks prepared in the isotropic state, suggesting that these materials should have the greatest potential for dramatic improvements in mechanical properties.  相似文献

Nonlinear kinetics of both spinodal decomposition at early stages, and the dissolution of homogeneities formed during spinodal decomposition, is studied. Variation of the scattering intensity during a complete cycle consisting of a step temperature change from T1 in the one-phase region to T2 in the two-phase region, a period of spinodal decomposition followed by a temperature drop from T2 back to T1, and the subsequent relaxation to the original equilibrium state, is investigated at various wavenumbers. The exponent γ in the expression for the partition function Z ≅ μN · Nγ−1 is derived for a Gaussian chain. The method of Ullman is adopted. Results of calculations show that for 1, 2, 3 and 4 dimensions, γ = 1, 1,25, 1,2 and 1, respectively. It is also shown that γ remains unity for all dimensions higher than four. These results are in better agreement with exact computer simulation results than the first-order renomalization group theory calculations. The self consistency of the present method and possible improvements along the lines of the present study are discussed.  相似文献

The dynamics of polymer chains in the bulk state are discussed at three different temperature scales: (i) Well above the glass transition temperature where the basic step of motion is the rotameric transition of bonds. In this regime, the dynamics may conveniently be analyzed by the rotational isomeric state model, (ii) In the vicinity of glass transition where friction forces from the environment dominate. In this regime, the dynamics may be modeled according to the cooperative kinematics model, (iii) Well below glass transition. Here, an analogy with a native protein is made, and the mean-squared fluctuations are analyzed by adopting the Gaussian Network Model, which recently proved successful in describing fluctuations in native proteins.  相似文献

Singular Value Decomposition technique is used to decompose the trajectory of the fluctuations of atom positions into their modes for a chain of fifty bonds embedded in a fluctuating environment. The temperature of the environment is changed according to a Monte Carlo Metropolis scheme. Results show that at low temperatures only a few modes are significant, these being the slowest ones. For high temperatures, on the other hand, higher modes corresponding to fast fluctuations of atom positions are significant as well.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to investigate the chemical composition, antioxidant and enzyme inhibitory activities of methanol (MeOH) extracts from Onosma bourgaei (Boiss.) and O. trachytricha (Boiss.). In addition, the interactions between phytochemicals found in extracts in high amounts and the target enzymes in question were revealed at the molecular scale by performing in silico molecular docking simulations. While the total amount of flavonoid compounds was higher in O. bourgaei, O. trachytricha was richer in phenolics. Chromatographic analysis showed that the major compounds of the extracts were luteolin 7-glucoside, apigenin 7-glucoside and rosmarinic acid. With the exception of the ferrous ion chelating assay, O. trachytricha exhibited higher antioxidant activity than O. bourgaei. O. bourgaei exhibited also slightly higher activity on digestive enzymes. The inhibitory activities of the Onosma species on tyrosinase were almost equal. In addition, the inhibitory activities of the extracts on acetylcholinesterase (AChE) were stronger than the activity on butyrylcholinesterase (BChE). Molecular docking simulations revealed that luteolin 7-glucoside and apigenin 7-glucoside have particularly strong binding affinities against ChEs, tyrosinase, α-amylase and α-glucosidase when compared with co-crystallized inhibitors. Therefore, it was concluded that the compounds in question could act as effective inhibitors on cholinesterases, tyrosinase and digestive enzymes.  相似文献

Simple shear tests are widely used for material characterization especially for sheet metals to achieve large deformations without plastic instability. This work describes three different shear tests for sheet metals in order to enhance the knowledge of the material behavior under shear conditions. The test setups are different in terms of the specimen geometry and the fixtures. A shear test setup as proposed by Miyauchi, according to the ASTM standard sample, as well as an in-plane torsion test are compared in this study. A detailed analysis of the experimental strain distribution measured by digital image correlation is discussed for each test. Finite element simulations are carried out to evaluate the effect of specimen geometries on the stress distributions in the shear zones. The experimental macroscopic flow stress vs. strain behavior shows no significant influence of the specimen geometry when similar strain measurements and evaluation schemes are used. Minor differences in terms of the stress distribution in the shear zone can be detected in the numerical results. This work attempts to give a unique overview and a detailed study of the most commonly used shear tests for sheet metal characterization. It also provides information on the applicability of each test for the observation of the material behavior under shear stress with a view to material modeling for finite element simulations.  相似文献

The structural changes of chicken feather fibers (CFF) were investigated during pyrolysis by thermal analysis techniques coupled with mass spectrometry, solubility tests and gel permeation chromatography. The experimental data showed simultaneous disulfide bond cleavage and peptide crosslinking reactions, and suggested the dependency of crystalline melting on disulfide bond cleavage. The variation in the kinetics of these reactions played an important role in the melting transition and stability. Thus, careful tuning of the pyrolysis thermal profile provided conditions to obtain useful fibrous material at high temperatures. For instance, long-time heat treatments below the melting point provided sufficient crosslinks in the protein matrix to keep the fibrous structure intact. The protein matrix went through a series of transformations including cyclization and aromatization reactions above the melting point. Degradation of the matrix and liberation of aromatic carbons and cyclic amines were observed during these transformations. These pyrolysis mechanisms can serve as a guide for producing materials with desired properties from CFF and other keratin fibers, particularly in textile, high performance composite and catalyst applications.  相似文献
