The space between stars is not empty but contains gas-phase and particulate matter under varying conditions. Neutral matter is found mainly in large regions of the interstellar medium known as "clouds", the largest of which, termed "giant molecular clouds", are essentially molecular in nature. Stars and planetary systems form inside these giant clouds when portions collapse and heat up. The details of the collapse can be followed by observation of the chemical changes in the molecular composition of the gas and dust particles. Moreover, an understanding of the chemical processes yields much information on the time scales and histories of the assorted stages. Among the most recent additions to our chemical knowledge of star formation are a deeper understanding of isotopic fractionation, especially involving deuterium, and a realization that the role of neutral-neutral reactions is more salient than once thought possible.  相似文献

The gas-phase reactions of a series of (di)manganese carbonyl positive ions with 1,4,7-trimethyl-1,4,7-triazacyclononane (Me(3)TACN) have been examined with the aid of Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance (FTICR) mass spectrometry. The monomanganese carbonyl ions, [Mn(CO)(n)](+) (n = 2-5), react predominantly by ligand exchange and to a minor extent by electron transfer with the formation of the radical cation of Me(3)TACN. For the [Mn(CO)(n)](+) (n = 2-4) ions, the ligand exchange results in the exclusive formation of a [Mn(Me(3)TACN)](+) complex, whereas small amounts of [Mn(CO)(Me(3)TACN)](+) ions are also generated in the reactions of the [Mn(CO)(5)](+) ion. The [Mn(2)(CO)(n)](+) ions (n = 2, 4 and 5) react also by competing electron transfer and ligand exchange. The reaction of the [Mn(2)(CO)(2)](+) and [Mn(2)(CO)(4)](+) ions is associated with cleavage of the Mn--Mn bond as evidenced by the pronounced formation of [Mn(Me(3)TACN)](+) ions. For [Mn(2)(CO)(5)](+), the ligand exchange leads mainly to the formation of [Mn(2)(CO)(n)(Me(3)TACN)](+) (n = 1-3) ions. These primary product ions react subsequently by the incorporation of a second Me(3)TACN molecule to afford [Mn(2)(CO)(Me(3)TACN)(2)](+) and [Mn(2)(CO)(2)(Me(3)TACN)(2)](+) ions. Both of these latter species incorporate an oxygen molecule with formation of ions with the assigned composition of [Mn(2)(O(2))(CO)(Me(3)TACN)(2)](+) and [Mn(2)(O(2))(CO)(2)(Me(3)TACN)(2)](+).  相似文献

Vibrational relaxation of the 6(1) level of S(1)((1)B(2u)) benzene is analyzed using the angular momentum model of inelastic processes. Momentum-(rotational) angular momentum diagrams illustrate energetic and angular momentum constraints on the disposal of released energy and the effect of collision partner on resultant benzene rotational excitation. A kinematic "equivalent rotor" model is introduced that allows quantitative prediction of rotational distributions from inelastic collisions in polyatomic molecules. The method was tested by predicting K-state distributions in glyoxal-Ne as well as J-state distributions in rotationally inelastic acetylene-He collisions before being used to predict J and K distributions from vibrational relaxation of 6(1) benzene by H(2), D(2), and CH(4). Diagrammatic methods and calculations illustrate changes resulting from simultaneous collision partner excitation, a particularly effective mechanism in p-H(2) where some 70% of the available 6(1)-->0(0) energy may be disposed into 0-->2 rotation. These results support the explanation for branching ratios in 6(1)-->0(0) relaxation given by Waclawik and Lawrance and the absence of this pathway for monatomic partners. Collision-induced vibrational relaxation in molecules represents competition between the magnitude of the energy gap of a potential transition and the ability of the colliding species to generate the angular momentum (rotational and orbital) needed for the transition to proceed. Transition probability falls rapidly as DeltaJ increases and for a given molecule-collision partner pair will provide a limit to the gap that may be bridged. Energy constraints increase as collision partner mass increases, an effect that is amplified when J(i)>0. Large energy gaps are most effectively bridged using light collision partners. For efficient vibrational relaxation in polyatomics an additional requirement is that the molecular motion of the mode must be capable of generating molecular rotation on contact with the collision partner in order to meet the angular momentum requirements. We postulate that this may account for some of the striking propensities that characterize polyatomic energy transfer.  相似文献

An investigation has been carried out into the usefulness of the spectral subtraction technique in analyzing the infrared spectra of the clathrates of quinol and of Dianin's compound. Due to the flexibility of the quinol host lattice, it is not advisable to use guest-free -quinol as the reference if the host lattice in the clathrate is considerably distorted, as it is in the CH3CN clathrate. In this case it is advisable to use another clathrate as the reference provided that the spectrum of the new reference does not contain guest bands in the region of interest. The Dianin's compound host lattice is less flexible than that of quinol, and guest-free Dianin's compound can be used as the reference irrespective of the size of the guest molecule. With both clathrates the spectral subtraction technique has revealed guest molecule bands which were previously obscured by host lattice bands.Dedicated to Professor H. M. Powell.  相似文献

In this paper, we discuss the factors affecting drop evaporation. We found that the droplet morphology at a specific temperature was controlled by the physical properties of the liquid itself, such as the molecular weight, density, diffusion coefficient in air, and heat of vaporization. Two processes are included in drop evaporation: diffusion of liquid molecules into the air (diffusion part) and flow of the liquid molecules from inside the drop to the free outer shell liquid layer within the liquid-vapor interface (evaporation part). The diffusion part remained steady during drying and was not sensitive to the variation of temperature. The evaporation part, however, was an active factor and determined the differences in drop evaporation behaviors.  相似文献

Laser flash photolysis (LFP, 308 nm) of endo-10-halo-10'-N,N-dimethylcarboxamidetricyclo[4.3.1.0]-deca-2,4-diene (1Cl and 1F) releases indan and halocarbene amide (2Cl and 2F). Although the carbenes are not UV-vis active, they react rapidly with pyridine to form ylides (4Cl, 4F), which are readily detected in LFP experiments (lambda(max) = 450 nm). Dioxane decreases the observed rate of carbene reaction with pyridine in CF(2)ClCFCl(2). Small amounts of THF decrease the observed rate of reaction of carbene 2F with pyridine but increase the rate of reaction of carbene 2Cl with pyridine. LFP (266 nm) of dienes 1Cl and 1F in CF(2)ClCFCl(2) with IR detection produces carbenes 2Cl and 2F with carbonyl vibrations at 1635 and 1650 cm(-1), respectively. In dioxane or THF solvent, LFP produces the corresponding ether ylides (5Cl, 5F) by capture of carbenes 2Cl and 2F. The ylides have broad carbonyl vibrations between 1560 and 1610 cm(-1). The addition of a small amount of dioxane in CFCl(2)CF(2)Cl extends the lifetime of the carbene. This observation, together with the ether-induced retardation of the rates of carbene capture by tetramethylethylene and pyridine, is evidence for solvation of the carbene by dioxane.  相似文献

Ternary complexes exploiting solubility synergism (SSn) between basic drugs and β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) in the presence of an organic hydoxy acid have been reported to provide the pharmaceutical technology with highly soluble ternary complexes, even with the least soluble β-CD. In this work, phase solubility techniques were used to study factors affecting SSn in aqueous solution, which may help in understanding the mechanism involved in ternary complex formation in solution, under equilibrium conditions. The equilibrium solubility of both β-CD and each of 8 structurally unrelated drugs were measured in tandem in the presence of different acid types at low and high pHs, and at different time intervals over a period of 1–40 days. The results indicate that SSn is evident regardless of acid type (organic and inorganic) at low pH, but the extent of SSn is acid type dependant and is limited by the drug salt solubility product constant (pK sp). Among different drugs, no apparent trend exists between drug salt solubility and the extent of SSn, but lowering drug salt solubility by increasing pH depresses SSn. The results also reveal no apparent trend between the magnitude of the complex formation constant (K ij) and SSn. For example, drugs of low K ij values such as astemizole, cisapride and sildenafil do not show any SSn, yet ketotifen and pizotifen, which also have low K ij values, exhibit substantial SSn. However, the solublizing power of β-CD represented by the slope of phase solubility diagram can be used as a marker for SSn (slopes exceeding 0.4 induce SSn).  相似文献

A novel [NiS4Fe2(CO)6]cluster (1: 'S(4)'=(CH(3)C(6)H(3)S(2))(2)(CH(2))(3)) has been synthesised, structurally characterised and has been shown to undergo a chemically reversible reduction process at -1.31 V versus Fc(+)/Fc to generate the EPR-active monoanion 1(-). Multifrequency Q-, X- and S-band EPR spectra of (61)Ni-enriched 1(-) show a well-resolved quartet hyperfine splitting in the low-field region due to the interaction with a single (61)Ni (I=3/2) nucleus. Simulations of the EPR spectra require the introduction of a single angle of non-coincidence between g(1) and A(1), and g(3) and A(3) to reproduce all of the features in the S- and X-band spectra. This behaviour provides a rare example of the detection and measurement of non-coincidence effects from frozen-solution EPR spectra without the need for single-crystal measurements, and in which the S-band experiment is sensitive to the non-coincidence. An analysis of the EPR spectra of 1(-) reveals a 24 % Ni contribution to the SOMO in 1(-), supporting a delocalisation of the spin-density across the NiFe(2) cluster. This observation is supported by IR spectroscopic results which show that the CO stretching frequencies, nu(CO), shift to lower frequency by about 70 cm(-1) when 1 is reduced to 1(-). Density functional calculations provide a framework for the interpretation of the spectroscopic properties of 1(-) and suggest that the SOMO is delocalised over the whole cluster, but with little S-centre participation. This electronic structure contrasts with that of the Ni-A, -B, -C and -L forms of [NiFe] hydrogenase in which there is considerable S participation in the SOMO.  相似文献

The novel charge-transfer ground state found in alpha,alpha'-diimine adducts of ytterbocene (C(5)Me(5))(2)Yb(L) [L = 2,2'-bipyridine (bpy) and 1,10-phenanthroline (phen)] in which an electron is spontaneously transferred from the f(14) metal center into the lowest unoccupied (pi*) molecular orbital (LUMO) of the diimine ligand to give an f(13)-L(*)(-) ground-state electronic configuration has been characterized by cyclic voltammetry, UV-vis-near-IR electronic absorption, and resonance Raman spectroscopies. The voltammetric data demonstrate that the diimine ligand LUMO is stabilized and the metal f orbital is destabilized by approximately 1.0 V each upon complexation for both bpy and phen adducts. The separation between the ligand-based oxidation wave (L(0/-)) and the metal-based reduction wave (Yb(3+/2+)) in the ytterbocene adducts is 0.79 V for both bpy and phen complexes. The UV-vis-near-IR absorption spectroscopic data for both the neutral adducts and the one-electron-oxidized complexes are consistent with those reported recently, but previously unreported bands in the near-IR have been recorded and assigned to ligand (pi*)-to-metal (f orbital) charge-transfer (LMCT) transitions. These optical electronic excited states are the converse of the ground-state charge-transfer process (e.g., f(13)-L(*-) <--> f(14)-L(0)). These new bands occur at approximately 5000 cm(-1) in both adducts, consistent with predictions from electrochemical data, and the spacings of the resolved vibronic bands in these transitions are consistent with the removal of an electron from the ligand pi* orbital. The unusually large intensity observed in the f --> f intraconfiguration transitions for the neutral phenanthroline adduct is discussed in terms of an intensity-borrowing mechanism involving the low-energy LMCT states. Raman vibrational data clearly reveal resonance enhancement for excitation into the low-lying pi* --> pi* ligand-localized excited states, and comparison of the vibrational energies with those reported for alkali-metal-reduced diimine ligands confirms that the ligands in the adducts are reduced radical anions. Differences in the resonance enhancement pattern for the modes in the bipyridine adduct with excitation into different pi* --> pi* levels illustrate the different nodal structures that exist in the various low-lying pi* orbitals.  相似文献

The Nigerian Niger-Delta crude oil exploration often results in spills that affect indigenous medicinal plant biodiversity, likely changing the phytochemical profile of surviving species, their bioactivity or toxicity. In crude oil-rich Kokori and crude oil-free Abraka, classic examples of indigenous plants occupying the medicine-food interface include Vernonia amygdalina (VAL) and Ocimum gratissimum leaves (OGL). These plants are frequently utilised during pregnancy and in anaemia. To date, no scientific investigation has been reported on the potential changes to the phytochemical or bioactivity of the study plants. To discuss the similarities and dissimilarities in antisickling bioactivity and phytochemicals in VAL and OGL collected from Kokori (VAL-KK and OGL-KK) and Abraka (VAL-AB and OGL-AB), in silico, in vitro and comparative UPLC-QTOF-MS analysis was performed. Nine unique compounds were identified in OGL-KK, which have never been reported in the literature, while differences in antisickling potentials were observed in VAL-KK, OGL-KK and, VAL-AB, OGL-AB. Our findings show that VAL-AB and OGL-AB are richer and more diverse in phytochemicals and displayed a slightly higher antisickling activity than VAL-KK and OGL-KK. Ligand-based pharmacophore modelling was performed to understand the potential compounds better; this study may provide a basis for explaining the effect of crude oil spills on secondary metabolites and a reference for further research.  相似文献
