Signal ratio amplification via modulation of resonance energy transfer: proof of principle in an emission ratiometric Hg(II) sensor

Boradiazaindacene dyads designed as energy transfer casettes can be modified to signal cation concentrations ratiometrically. If the energy transfer efficiency is increased via changing spectral overlap on cation binding, an enhancement of emission signal ratios can be obtained. A larger range of ratios results in highly improved sensitivity to analyte concentrations. We demonstrate this approach in a de novo design of a novel and highly selective ratiometric chemosensor for Hg(II) ions.     

A panchromatic boradiazaindacene (BODIPY) sensitizer for dye-sensitized solar cells

A novel distyryl-substituted boradiazaindacene (BODIPY) dye displays interesting properties as a sensitizer in DSSC systems, opening the way to further exploration of structure-efficiency correlation within this class of dyes.     

Differential and substrate-selective reactivity of calix[4]arene derivatives with cyclenyl-Zn(II) modifications at the upper rim

[structure: see text] Novel "cone conformation" calix[4]arene derivatives, carrying either one or two cyclen (1,4,7,10-tetra-azacyclododecane) moieties at the upper rim, have been synthesized. The hydrolytic activities of the Zn(II) complexes of these calixarenes were studied. A surprising behavior was observed with p-nitrophenylstearate; whereas the bis-cyclenyl-2Zn(II) complex showed negligible hydrolytic activity over the background, the mononuclear complex showed a significant 400-fold rate increase at pH 8.5.     

Unexpected Cyclization of Dipyridyl-glycoluril in the Presence of Formaldehyde and Strong Acid: A New Scaffold with a Potential as an Anion Receptor

In an attempted synthesis of peripherally pyridine-substituted cucurbituril, an unexpected cyclized product was obtained. A careful NMR analysis followed by mass spectrometry and preliminary crystallographic analyses, helped us in resolving the structure. The structure has two quaternized pyridine functionalities and a groove suitable as a potential receptor site. In addition, just like the parent glycoluril structure, two remaining urea-derived nitrogens can be alkylated by alkyl halides. Thus, we believe this high yielding reaction may become an entry point to a new class of anion receptors.     

A sensitive and selective ratiometric near IR fluorescent probe for zinc ions based on the distyryl-bodipy fluorophore

A novel distyryl-substituted boradiazaindacene (bodipy) dye with an emission peak moving hypsochromically from 730 to 680 nm on Zn(II) ion binding seems to be promising as one of the very few water-soluble fluorescent chemosensors emitting in the near IR region.

Drying characteristics of garlic (Allium sativum L) slices in a convective hot air dryer

The effects of drying temperatures on the drying kinetics of garlic slices were investigated using a cabinet-type dryer. The experimental drying data were fitted best to the Page and Modified Page models apart from other theoretical models to predict the drying kinetics. The effective moisture diffusivities varied from 4.214 × 10^?10 to 2.221 × 10^?10 m² s^?1 over the temperature range studied, and activation energy was 30.582 kJ mol^?1.
