Selective electroreduction of dinitrogen on a rotating copper amalgam electrode

On an amalgamated rotating copper disk electrode in an alkaline methanol solution in the presence of mixed Ti(OH)₃–Mo(III) hydroxide, dinitrogen is shown to be selectively electroreduced to hydrazine in the potential range –1.6 to –1.9 V (with respect to the saturated calomel electrode).

Arylsulfonyl chlorides in the presence of N-methylimidazole as efficient condensing reagents in phosphotriester oligonucleotide synthesis

It was shown that arylsulfonyl chlorides in the presence of N-methylimidazole are powerful condensing agents for the triester internucleotide bond formation.     

Oxazolo[3,2-a]pyridinium and oxazolo[3,2-a]pyrimidinium salts in organic synthesis

The methods for the synthesis of oxazolo[3,2-a]pyridinium and oxazolo[3,2-a]pyrimidinium salts and their reactivities are reviewed. Both systems exhibit ambident properties in reactions with nucleophiles; depending on the substituents and the reagents, both the oxazole and azine rings can undergo opening and transformations. A number of new methodologies involving oxazolopyridinium and oxazolopyrimidinium salts for the design of functionalized oxazoles, imidazoles, fused pyrroles, and other heterocyclic systems are generalized. Osmium dimethyl sulfoxide complexes: Synthesis and properties of [H(dmso)2][OsIII(dmso)2Br4]

The reaction of H₂[OsBr₆] with DMSO in ethanol solution resulted in DMSO complex [H(dmso-O)₂][Os^III(dmso-S)₂Br₄] (1) described previously as an intermediate product in the reaction of K₂[OsBr₆] with DMSO and characterized by EAS and ESR spectra. The coordination of DMSO molecules was established by IR and ¹H and ¹³C NMR spectroscopy. The oxidation state of osmium and trans arrangement of DMSO molecules in the anion were established by ESR. The behavior of complex 1 in solutions was studied by EAS, ESR, and mass-spectrometry: a displacement of Br^? ions accompanied by the reduction of osmium to oxidation state +2 occurs in DMSO, a solvation with displacement of DMSO molecules is observed at the first stage in water and methanol (rate constants 2.3 × 10^?4 and 1.7 × 10^?3 s^?1, respectively), the sequential substitution of DMSO molecules and osmium oxidation to form [Os^IVBr₆]_2? ions takes place in 4 mol/L HBr.

Investigation of Biopag films adsorbed on metal and ceramic surfaces by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy

Using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, it was found that the treatment of aluminum, nickel, and ceramic surfaces with a 1% Biopag aqueous solution (Biopag, poly(hexamethylene guanidine chloride)), was synthesized at the Institute of Ecological and Technological Problems in accordance with TU (Specifications) 9392-020-41547288-02) results in the formation of thin polymer films on the surfaces. The chemical composition of the films was determined. It was shown that the chemical composition of the films is changed on long standing in air. Microbiological tests were carried out, and the minimum suppressing concentration toward Pseudomonas aeruginosa was determined. It was shown that the Biopag films aged for 6 months retain up to 84% of their initial activity.
