A novel approach based on recurrent neural networks applied to nonlinear systems optimization

This paper presents an efficient approach based on recurrent neural network for solving nonlinear optimization. More specifically, a modified Hopfield network is developed and its internal parameters are computed using the valid subspace technique. These parameters guarantee the convergence of the network to the equilibrium points that represent an optimal feasible solution. The main advantage of the developed network is that it treats optimization and constraint terms in different stages with no interference with each other. Moreover, the proposed approach does not require specification of penalty and weighting parameters for its initialization. A study of the modified Hopfield model is also developed to analyze its stability and convergence. Simulation results are provided to demonstrate the performance of the proposed neural network.     

Synchrotron radiation total reflection X-ray fluorescence (SR-TXRF) for evaluation of food contamination

Summary The objective of this study was to use synchrotron radiation total reflection X-ray fluorescence analysis (SR-TXRF) for the determination of metals and other elements in food available to the population in commercial establishments, in order to evaluate the risks of contamination by these products. The analyzed species were vegetables, leafy vegetables, fruits, cereal and grain. The results indicated that some species were contaminated by Cr, Cu, Zn and Pb with concentrations much higher than the reference values.     

Enhancing molecular formation in a Rb-MOT

In this paper, we report observation of an enhancement of the ground state molecule Rb₂ formation in a Rb magneto-optical trap due to a photoassociation laser. Such an enhancement effect is due to flux enhancement of atomic pairs at short internuclear distances. Our experimental observations consist in the measurement of the molecular formation rate constant due to a probe laser as a function of the trap laser intensity. The results are compared with a simple semi-classical model, showing good agreement. We conclude that the production of cold Rb₂ may be enhanced using appropriate laser parameters; this may be useful for future experiments involving production and trapping of ultracold ground state molecules.     

Reactions on the dimethylphenylbenzacridinones. VI. Hydrogenation of ortho-nitrophenyl derivatives

Catalytic hydrogenation of o-nitrophenylbenz[a], benz[c], dibenz[a,h] and dibenz[a,g]acridinones using Pd/C as catalyst, at 60 psi of pressure, gave the hiterto unknown benzoquinoacridine N-oxides and benzo-pyranonaphthyridine N-oxides. The structure of all products was corroborated by ir, ¹H- and ¹³C-nmr and mass spectra data.     

A Characterization of Cosmological Time Functions

A characterization of time functions on a spacetime is made by using theMöbius equation. It is shown that a time function characterized in this wayyields past timelike geodesic incompleteness and local Lorentzian warpedproduct decomposition of spacetime, provided that the stress-energy tensoris a fluid. Also, by imposing additional assumptions on the stress-energytensor and global analytic structure of the spacetime, more restrictivedecompositions closer to Robertson–Walker spacetimes are obtained.     

Formulation of N- and ν-representable density functional theory. V. Exchange-only self-consistent field

The concept of a self-consistent field is developed within the version of density functional theory based on local-scaling transformations. It is shown that in this context there arise two types of consistency: one relating to the charge-consistency within an orbit and another to “orbit jumping.” The latter is analyzed in terms of one-particle equations. Polynomial Stability to Three-Dimensional Magnetoelastic Waves

In this work we show that the energy associated to the linear three-dimensional magneto-elastic system decays polynomially to zero as time goes to infinity, provided the initial data is smooth enough.

An infinite-time relaxation theorem for differential inclusions

The fundamental relaxation result for Lipschitz differential inclusions is the Filippov-Wazewski Relaxation Theorem, which provides approximations of trajectories of a relaxed inclusion on finite intervals. A complementary result is presented, which provides approximations on infinite intervals, but does not guarantee that the approximation and the reference trajectory satisfy the same initial condition.
