Thermal characterization of hair using TG-MS combined thermoanalytical technique

Four amino acids and four different hair samples were studied in order to get information about the decomposition of human hair, using combined (TG-MS) and DSC techniques. The thermal stability of the investigated amino acid samples was different. Since they contain identical functional groups (-NH₂, -COOH) some common mass/charge units were identified. However, due to their different chemical composition remarkable differences have also been obtained. The results of the investigation of the amino acids were helpful to study the thermal fragmentation of the hair samples. In our experiments, the effect of the heating rates was also studied. Surface tension in field theory at finite temperature: Semiclassical fermionic plus bosonic contributions

We compute, within the one loop approximation, the temperature dependent surface tension for a model involving a scalar field coupled to a fermionic field. The fermionic and bosonic contributions have been computed in this approximation by evaluating explicitly the determinants in the presence of a domain wall.     

Polymorphism and phase transitions in TlS

The conditions for synthesis and the range of existence of the monoclinic TlS modification in the Tl-S system have been determined by means of differential thermal, X-ray diffraction, and microstructural analyses. It was shown that the monoclinic phase is a structural analogue of TlGaSe₂. Possible variants of formation of structural sheets and the nature of phase transitions in the monoclinic TlS modification are discussed.
