Amorphization of solids by fast neutrons

The diffraction patterns of amorphous solids prepared in the traditional way and by fast neutron bombardment are systematized. It is found that the diffraction patterns of these two classes of materials are different. In the case of a single crystal of titanium nickelide we have demonstrated here for the first time that these radiation-modified solids belong to the class of amorphous materials of distortion type. Fluctuations of magnetic moments in fine particles: SEDM studies

The spectra of γ-quanta resonantly scattered on the nuclei⁵⁷Fe contained in the goethite FeOOH microparticles reveal the presence of energetically shifted (satellite) component that arises due to the repopulation of hf sublevels during the lifetime of excited nuclear state. This observation confirms the hypothesis of relaxation behaviour of magnetic moments in microcrystalline goethite.     

Asymptotic behavior of the capacity of a condenser as some of its plates contract to points

It is shown that the first two terms in the asymptotic formula for the capacity of a generalized condenser are independent of the shape of degenerating plates. An earlier formula was given only for the case in which the degenerating plates are elements of families of almost disks with fixed centers.     

Two-sided bounds for the logarithmic capacity of multiple intervals

Potential theory on the complement of a subset of the real axis attracts much attention in both function theory and applied sciences. This paper discusses one aspect of the theory — the logarithmic capacity of closed subsets of the real line. We give simple but precise upper and lower bounds for the logarithmic capacity of multiple intervals and a lower bound valid also for closed sets comprising an infinite number of intervals. Using some known methods to compute the exact values of capacity, we demonstrate graphically how our estimates compare with them. The main machinery behind our results are the separating transformation and dissymmetrization developed by V. N. Dubinin and a version of the latter due to K. Haliste, as well as some classical symmetrization and projection results for the logarithmic capacity. The results of the paper improve some previous achievements by A. Yu. Solynin and K. Shiefermayr.
