Small-angle neutron scattering was used to characterize the solution behavior of charged carboxylic acid terminated "cascade" dendrimers (Z-Cascade/methane [4]/3-oxo-6-oxa-2-azaheptylidyne/3-oxo-2-azaheptylidyne/propanoic acids) of third (G3) and fifth (G5) generations as a function of dendrimer concentration, pH, and ionic strength. An increase in dendrimer concentration leads to a single broad peak in the scattering profile arising from interdendrimer interaction. The dissociation of terminal carboxylate groups also gives rise to an interdendrimer interaction peak, which could be suppressed by the addition of excess salt. The results of contrast matching measurements indicate the accumulation of an excess concentration of tetramethylammonium counterions around the surface of these highly charged particles, and the thickness of these counterions lies somewhere between 4 and 6 A. This conclusion is consistent with our previous potentiometric titration (Zhang, H.; et al. J. Phys. Chem. B 1997, 101, 3494) and capillary electrophoresis (Huang, Q. R.; et al. J. Phys. Chem. B 2000, 104, 898) data.  相似文献

A (2 + 1) one-colour resonance-enhanced multiphoton ionisation study is carried out on the C 2 sigma- state of the ClO radical in the one-photon energy range 29,500-31,250 cm-1. The ClO radical is produced by one-photon photolysis of ClO2 employing 359.2 nm photons derived from a separate laser. In this way a significant concentration of vibrationally excited ClO in its spin-orbit split X 2 pi omega (omega = 3/2 or 1/2) electronic ground state is produced. In addition to mass-resolved excitation spectra, kinetic-energy resolved photoelectron spectra for the X 3 sigma-(v+)<--C 2 sigma-(v' = 3-5) transitions are measured. These transitions are not completely Frank-Condon diagonal, and indicate a decrease in bond length on removal of the Rydberg electron from the C 2 sigma- state. In addition to an unambiguous assignment of the C 2 sigma- state, valuable information is obtained on the degree of vibrational excitation with which the nascent ClO radical is formed in the photolysis of ClO2. Analysis of the photoelectron spectra is supported by Franck-Condon calculations based on potential energy curves either from experimental spectroscopic parameters, or obtained by theoretical ab initio methods.  相似文献

The effect of toluene solubilization on the size and mobility of Triton X100 (TX100) micelles and TX100/sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) mixed micelles was studied by turbidimetry, dynamic light scattering, and capillary electrophoresis. Micelle growth due to toluene solubilization was observed for both surfactant systems; however, two different modes of growth were seen. Mixed micelles in 0.1 M NaCl are spherical (apparent diameter d(app) = 8 nm) and remain so while taking up 3 mM toluene, with a volume increase per micelle of deltaV(m) = 50 nm3. In 0.5 M NaCl, the large d(app) of both nonionic and mixed micelles (14 and 24 nm, respectively) indicate ellipsoidal or rodlike shapes, and their large increases in d(app) upon addition of 3 mM toluene thus correspond to elongational growth, with the same deltaV(m) = 50 nm3. Further addition of toluene to TX100/SDS in 0.5 M NaCl results in a dramatic increase in micelle size followed by an unexpected bimodal size distribution. The addition of excess toluene leads to the formation of ca. 140 nm toluene droplets, stabilized mainly by monomers of the high critical micelle concentration surfactant, SDS. These microemulsions coexist with the smaller (20 nm) swollen mixed micelles.  相似文献

Dynamic and electrophoretic light scattering were used to study the diffusion and electrophoretic mobility of poly(dimethyldiallylammonium chloride) as a function of polymer molecular weight in salt-free solutions. Two relaxation modes characterized as fast diffusion (Df) and slow diffusion (Ds) were obtained from dynamic light scattering. Although the slow diffusion coefficient Ds strongly depends on molecular weight (Mw), the fast diffusion coefficient Df was found to be independent of Mw over the range in the study. The fast diffusion was considered as the diffusion of a part of the polymer chain; the slow diffusion was interpreted by multichain diffusion. Electrophoretic light scattering results in the salt-free solution show that the electrophoretic mobility of the polymer is independent of Mw. © 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献
