Nuclear sizes of 40,48Ca and 32,34S isotopes determined from 1 GeV proton elastic scattering

Differential cross sections for 1 GeV proton elastic scattering from ^40,48Ca and ^32,34S have been measured. The parameters of the nucleon distributions were obtained from an analysis of the experimental data. The difference between the neutron distributions in ⁴⁰Ca and ⁴⁸Ca is discussed in particular.     

Luminescence of Ytterbium and Neodymium in Complexes with Bis-Macrocyclic Ligands

We have studied the spectral-luminescent characteristics of ytterbium and neodymium ions in complexes with new polydentate bis-crown-ether and bis-azacyclic ligands both of whose parts are bound by 2,9-substituted 1,10-phenanthroline. The relationship between the intensity, rare-earth ion luminescence lifetime, and the composition of the coordination sphere of the complexes is established. Using the considered compounds as an example, we show the advantage of the joint influence of screening of the central ion from the effect of high-frequency O–H- and C–H vibrations of the solvent molecules and of the photoantenna effect in improvement of the luminescent characteristics of lanthanides.     

On the regioselectivity of the reaction of cyanothioacetamide with 2-acetylcyclo-hexanone, 2-acetylcyclopentanone, and 2-acetyl-1-(morpholin-4-yl)-1-cycloalkenes

It has been established that the interaction of cyanothioacetamide with 2-acetylcyclohexanone, 2-acetylcyclopentanone, or their enamines (2-acetyl-1-(morpholin-4-yl)-1-cycloalkenes) contrary to the literature data have a non-regiospecific character and leads to the formation of mixtures of 3-cyano-4-methyl-5,6-tri(tetra)methylenepyridine-2(1 H)-thiones and 3-cyano-6-methyl-4,5-tri(tetra)methylene-pyridine-2(1 H)-thiones with a predominance of the latter.     

On the development of plane waves generated by a periodic pressure applied to the flow of a continuously stratified fluid

In the linear formulation, an investigation is made into the development of undamped (in time) plane waves generated by a. harmonically varying pressure applied to the free surface of an initially undisturbed flow of a continuously stratified fluid of finite depth. The cases of a homogeneous fluid and two-layer fluid are considered in [1–3]. Electronic structure of guanidine and its derivatives from X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and density functional theory studies

Electronic structure of guanidine, diphenylguanidine, their protonated forms, and guanidinium chloride have been studied by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and quantum-chemical modeling. From the derived geometry parameters and electronic structure, the effect of protonation on localization of the electron density has been revealed. The lines in the valence region of the X-ray photoelectron spectra have been assigned.     

Crossover scale of the fixed point with replica symmetry breaking in the random Potts model

We study the scaling properties of the renormalization group (RG) flows in the two-dimensional random Potts model, assuming a general type of replica symmetry breaking (RSB) in the renormalized coupling matrix. It is shown that in the asymptotic regime the RG flows approach the non-trivial RSB fixed point algebraically slowly, which reflects the fact that this type of the fixed point is marginally stable. As a consequence, the crossover spatial scale corresponding to the critical regime described by this fixed point turns out to be exponentially large. Pis’ma Zh. éksp. Teor.
