We use lookback time versus redshift data from galaxy clusters (Capozziello et al., 2004 [9]) and passively evolving galaxies (Simon et al., 2005 [62]), and apply a Bayesian prior on the total age of the Universe based on WMAP measurements, to constrain dark energy cosmological model parameters. Current lookback time data provide interesting and moderately restrictive constraints on cosmological parameters. When used jointly with current baryon acoustic peak and Type Ia supernovae apparent magnitude versus redshift data, lookback time data tighten the constraints on parameters and favor slightly smaller values of the nonrelativistic matter energy density.  相似文献

A monomer design having a bulky terminal tricyclodecane (TCD) unit linked via hydrogen bondable urethane to an ethyleneoxy methacrylate unit, and capable of generating three‐dimensional honeycomb patterns upon solvent casting has been investigated. Random copolymers as well as a diblock copolymer Poly(Sty42b‐TCD18) of this monomer with styrene were prepared by free‐radical polymerization route and atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) route. Morphology characterization was carried out using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis. Particle size was measured by dynamic light scattering measurements (DLS). Irrespective of the wide differences in molecular weight and polydispersity index values, the random copolymers having TCD content >30 mol % were found to form microporous films upon solvent casting from a THF/water 9:1 solvent combination. The amount of TCD in the copolymer was found to have an influence on the pore size formed. The diblock copolymer formed microspheres ~200 nm in diameter. The thermal properties of all the polymers were studied using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and the copolymers were found to have good thermal stability. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Glycoforms of glargine expressed in Pichia pastoris were isolated by high‐performance liquid chromatography and analyzed by a series of chemical and mass spectrometric methods for the identification of various glycoforms, glycosylation position, nature and structure of glycans. Reduction and alkylation, peptide mapping techniques were used to decipher the amino acid site at which glycosylation had taken place. Chemical methods were coupled with mass spectrometry techniques such as electrospray ionization and matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionization for identification of the glycosylation site. Dietary antioxidants, such as anthocyanins, are helpful in the prevention and control of various diseases by counteracting the imbalance of oxidative and antioxidative factors in the living systems. Black currant (Ribes nigrum L., Grossulariaceae) is known to contain high amounts of anthocyanins (250 mg/100 g fresh fruit). Black currant fruits have been used in Asian and European traditional medicine for the treatment of a variety of diseases. Black currant extract has recently been found to be the second most effective amongst nine different berry extracts studied for their free radical scavenging activity. Constituents present in black currant juice have been found to exert a number of health-promoting effects, including immunomodulatory, antimicrobial and antiinflammatory actions, inhibition of low-density lipoprotein, and reduction of cardiovascular diseases. Although antioxidant and antiinflammatory effects of black currant juice could be of value in preventing and treating oxidative stress- and inflammation-driven cancers, no experimental evidence is available to now. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the potential antiproliferative effects of black currant fruit skin extract against HepG2 human liver cancer cells. The aqueous extract yielded an anthocyanin-rich fraction with cyanidin-3-O-rutinoside as one of the major anthocyanins. This fraction exhibited a potent cytotoxic effect on HepG2 cells and this effect was more pronounced than that of delphinidin and cyanidin, two major aglycones of anthocyanins present in black currant. Our results indicate, for the first time, that black currant skin containing an anthocyanin-rich fraction inhibits the proliferation of liver cancer cells, possibly due to additive as well as synergistic effects. This product could be useful in the prevention and treatment of human hepatocellular carcinoma.  相似文献

We fabricated microstructures and micro craters in thin films and bulk of PS. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of the emission from fs laser modified regions of PS when excited at 337, 400, 458, 488 and 514 nm wavelengths with different emission peaks. We systematically studied the emission in context of formation of optical centers and analyzed the spectra of irradiated PS. Change in the excitation wavelength leads to a shift in the emission peak, whereby, we infer that the emission should be due to a myriad of optical centers. Interestingly these optical centers have a similar excitation spectrum. Diphenylbutadiene (DPBD) is probably the main optical center among other optical centers thus formed in the process of fs laser irradiation of PS.  相似文献

We report microfabrication of structures in bulk and thin films of polystyrene (PS) using femtosecond (fs) laser pulses. For the first time to our knowledge, we report emission from the fs laser modified regions of bulk and thin films of PS when excited at 458, 488, and 514 nm. Moreover, we report the existence of peroxide type free radicals, for the first time, in fs laser irradiated bulk PS. We observed the suppression of Raman modes in case of structures fabricated at higher energies and the same effect was noticed in central portion of the structures fabricated. No appreciable broadening was observed in the case of structures fabricated at low energies. Possible applications resulting from such structures are discussed briefly.  相似文献

Experimental investigations on a sodium ion conducting gel polymer electrolyte nanocomposite based on poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene) (PVdF-HFP), dispersed with silica nanoparticles are reported. The gel nanocomposites have been obtained in the form of dimensionally stable, transparent and free-standing thick films. Physical characterization by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform Infra-red (FTIR) spectroscopy and Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) have been performed to study the structural changes and the ion-filler-polymer interactions due to the dispersion of SiO2 nanoparticles in gel electrolytes. The highest ionic conductivity of the electrolyte has been observed to be 4.1 × 10−3 S cm− 1 at room temperature with ~ 3 wt.% of SiO2 particles. The temperature dependence of the ionic conductivity has been found to be consistent with Vogel-Tammen-Fulcher (VTF) relationship in the temperature range from 40 to 70 °C. The sodium ion conduction in the gel electrolyte film is confirmed from the cyclic voltammetry, impedance analysis and transport number measurements. The value of sodium ion transport number (tNa+) of the gel electrolyte is significantly enhanced to a maximum value of 0.52 on the 15 wt.% SiO2 dispersion. The physical and electrochemical analyses indicate the suitability of the gel electrolyte films in the sodium batteries. A prototype sodium-sulfur battery, fabricated using optimized gel electrolyte, offers the first discharge capacity of ~165 mAh g− 1 of sulfur.  相似文献

We study a variation of the minority game. There are N agents. Each has to choose between one of two alternatives every day, and there is a reward to each member of the smaller group. The agents cannot communicate with each other, but try to guess the choice others will make, based only on the past history of the number of people choosing the two alternatives. We describe a simple probabilistic strategy using which the agents, acting independently, and trying to maximize their individual expected payoff, still achieve a very efficient overall utilization of resources, and the average deviation of the number of happy agents per day from the maximum possible can be made O(N?), for any ?>0. We also show that a single agent does not expect to gain by not following the strategy.  相似文献
