A procedure is explained to determined the amount of several pairs of diametrical loads applied to the outside boundary of a ring when stresses at selected points of the inside or outside boundaries are known. Coefficients of influence are used, following an approach similar to the one presented in a previous paper. Examples of application are given and the possible increase in precision is shown when the number of points of measurements is larger than the number of loads to be determined.  相似文献

Birefringent coatings have been employed to study the effectiveness of an adhesively bonded repair of a center-cracked tension panel. The repair was one sided, with photoelastic coatings applied to the opposite side. Photoelastic coatings were also applied over the patch. Analysis methods are presented to permit the stress intensity factor to be determined from the isochromatic fringe patterns recorded from both continuous andX- andY-edged coatings. The results showed that the one-sided adhesively bonded patch reduced the stress intensity factor; however, the repair did not markedly change the character of stress distributions. Fringe loops formed near the crack tips for both the cracked and repaired tension panels. The primary difference was in the size of the loops. The reduction inK I due to repair was smaller than anticipated, but even small improvements in ΔK I markedly enhance the life of a repaired panel. The Paris power law is used to show the relation between the reduction in ΔK I and the improvement in the crack growth rateda/dN. Fringe patterns from the birefringent coatings applied to the patch provided a means not only to investigate the stresses in the patch but also to detect the initiation of the local debonding of the adhesive in the neighborhood of the crack. The birefringent coating on the patch is an approach for producing an optically “smart” repair.  相似文献

A new optical method to seed a flow with elemental metal species is described and demonstrated using laser ablation. The unique ablation seeding approach is shown to generate free gas-phase metals in their atomic form, without the need for a spray or solvent. The technique can be used in both reactive and non-reactive environments, which solves a problem that has hitherto plagued the seeding of many flows. The ablative seeding approach has the potential to become a standard tool for chemical seeding, with a diverse range of application from flow tracing to atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS).  相似文献

Within the last years the goal of industrial manufacturing processes – such as tube forming – has shifted towards an optimization of technological as well as mechanical properties of the manufactured structures. For example, during the forming procedure of sheets made of austenitic stainless steel X5CrNi18-10, the content of strain-induced martensite needs to be controlled. In order to achieve optimal structural properties of the manufactured tube with respect to very high-cycle fatigue (VHCF), a martensite ratio of approximately 25% needs to be obtained [1]. On the basis of experimental investigations this contribution deals with the numerical simulation of the tube-forming process with special consideration of the martensite ratio c as a function of temperature and deformation field. For this purpose we extend an existing martensite model on polyaxial states of stress and compare experimental results and numerical simulations for the modified model. In this paper we develop numerical algorithms for the continuationof degenerate homoclinic connections in planar systems. We considerthe case where the equilibrium point has zero trace and twocases of higher-order degeneracies.
