Massive rigid string model and its supersymmetric extension

We discuss a rigid string model proposed by Casalbuoni and Longhi. Constraints for the massive states are solved to find the physical states and the mass spectrum. We also find its supersymmetric extension with the kappa symmetry. The supersymmetry transformations are found starting from on-shell transformations using the Dirac bracket.     

Stereocontrolled synthesis of 8,11-dideoxytetrodotoxin,unnatural analogue of puffer fish toxin

[structure: see text] 8,11-Dideoxytetrodotoxin, an unnatural tetrodotoxin analogue, was synthesized in a highly stereoselective manner from a common intermediate in our synthetic studies on tetrodotoxin. The synthesis features neighboring group participation of trichloroacetamide for stereoselective hydroxylation, protection of ortho ester, and guanidine installation with Boc-protected isothiourea.     

High-transmission waveguide with a small radius of curvature at a bend fabricated by use of a circular photonic crystal

A bent photonic crystal waveguide was fabricated by use of a lattice pattern of a circular photonic crystal that allowed high transmission for a broad band of wavelengths with a small radius of curvature at a bend. The waveguide was fabricated by use of alumina rods with a diameter of 3 mm. Windows of high transmission as a result of waveguiding were observed near 9 and 15 GHz. By measurement of the relative wave intensity [E]2 along the line defects, the propagation losses in the straight and the bent sections were estimated at 9.3 GHz to be 0.04 and 0.03 dB/mm, respectively.     

Electromagnetically induced transparency with squeezed vacuum

The squeezed vacuum resonant on the (87)Rb D1 line (probe light) was injected into an optically dense rubidium gas cell with a coherent light (control light). The output probe light maintained its quadrature squeezing within the transparency window caused by the electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT). The results reported here are the first realization of EIT in the full quantum regime.     

Evolution of the Hall coefficient and the peculiar electronic structure of the cuprate superconductors

Although the Hall coefficient R(H) is an informative transport property of metals and semiconductors, its meaning in the cuprate superconductors has been ambiguous because of its unusual characteristics. Here we show that a systematic study of R(H) in La2-xSrxCuO4 single crystals over a wide doping range establishes a qualitative understanding of its peculiar evolution, which turns out to reflect a two-component nature of the electronic structure caused by an unusual development of the Fermi surface recently uncovered by photoemission experiments.     

Palladium-catalyzed asymmetric allylic alkylation using chiral hydrazone ligands with ferrocene skeleton

Palladium-catalyzed asymmetric allylic alkylation of 1,3-diphenyl-2-propenyl acetate (4) with a dimethyl malonate-BSA-LiOAc system has been successfully carried out in the presence of chiral phosphine-hydrazone ligands such as 3a in good yields with good enantioselectivities (up to 84% ee).     

Low-temperature growth of ZnO epitaxial films by metal organic chemical vapor deposition

ZnO films were grown on Al₂O₃ (0001) substrates by metal organic chemical vapor deposition at temperatures of T_g=150300 °C. Epitaxial growth was obtained for T_g200 °C. The in-plane orientation of the ZnO unit cells was found to change from a no-twist one with respect to that of the substrate at T_g=200 °C to a 30°-twist one at T_g=300 °C. Absorption and photoluminescence were observed from the film grown at 150 °C, although there was no evidence of epitaxial growth. Films grown at T_g200 °C exhibited smoother surfaces. Moreover, all the films grown at T_g=150300 °C revealed acceptor-related emission peaks, indicating the incorporation of acceptors into the films. PACS 81.15.Gh; 78.55.Et; 78.66.Hf
