Effect of bicarbonate ions on photodecomposition of sodium dodecyl sulfate in aqueous solutions containing hydrogen peroxide

Effect exerted by bicarbonate ions on decomposition of sodium dodecyl sulfate in the presence of hydrogen peroxide under the action of UV light was studied.     

Decomposition of sodium dodecyl sulfate with ozone in aqueous solution

Decomposition of sodium dodecyl sulfate with ozone in aqueous solution in the presence of high concentrations of sodium nitrate was studied. The factors affecting ozone interaction with a dissolved compound were determined.     

Generation of nanosecond terahertz pulses by the optical rectification method

The possibility of the generation of quasi-cw terahertz radiation by the optical rectification method for broad-band Fourier unlimited nanosecond laser pulses has been experimentally demonstrated. The broadband radiation of a LiF dye-center laser is used as a pump source of a nonlinear optical oscillator. The energy efficiency of terahertz optical frequency conversion in a periodically polarized lithium niobate crystal is 4 × 10⁻⁹ at a pump power density of 7 MW/cm².     

Ozone solubility in concentrated aqueous solutions of salts

The effect exerted by the concentration of salts (NaCl, Na₂SO₄, and NaNO₃) on the ozone solubility in aqueous solution at 20, 30, and 40°C was studied. The solubility coefficients of ozone were calculated. The Henry constants and the Sechenov coefficients were determined.     

Peculiarities of isotopic temperatures obtained from p + A collisions at 1 GeV

Nuclear temperatures were extracted from fragment yields obtained in inclusive measurements of p+A collisions at 1 GeV. All thermometers based on double-isotopic yield-ratios provide temperatures T ≃ 4 MeV nearly independent on the target mass.     

Isomeric state of 80Y and its role in the astrophysical rp-process

A careful investigation of the isomeric transition of the long-lived state at 228.5 keV excitation energy in ⁸⁰Y has been done. The HIGISOL facility at the Jyv?skyl? isochronous cyclotron has been used. We used the electron magnetic transporter to prepare an appropriate source and to measure the electron spectra in clean background conditions. The measured internal conversion coefficient α_K = 0.50±0.07 allows unambiguous 1^- identification for the 228.5 keV first excited isomeric state in ⁸⁰Y. With a “bare" half-life of 6.8±0.5 s found in this work, this state is strongly populated in the rp-process during X-ray bursts and has therefore to be taken into account in X-ray burst model calculations. However, because of the similarity of the β-decay half-lives of isomeric and ground states, we find a maximum reduction in the effective β-decay lifetime of ⁸⁰Y of only 17±2%. Our results pave the way for a future investigation of the impact of the isomeric state on the “effective" ⁸⁰Y proton capture rate. Received: 14 March 2001 / Accepted: 10 July 2001     

Nuclear charge radii of neutron-deficient lead isotopes beyond N = 104 midshell investigated by in-source laser spectroscopy

The shape of exotic even-mass (182-190)Pb isotopes was probed by measurement of optical isotope shifts providing mean square charge radii (delta(r(2))). The experiment was carried out at the isolde (cern) on-line mass separator, using in-source laser spectroscopy. Small deviations from the spherical droplet model are observed, but when compared to model calculations, those are explained by high sensitivity of delta(r(2)) to beyond mean-field correlations and small admixtures of intruder configurations in the ground state. The data support the predominantly spherical shape of the ground state of the proton-magic Z=82 lead isotopes near neutron midshell (N=104).
