Observation of B-->K(0)(S)pi(+)pi(-) and Evidence for B-->K(*+/-)pi(-/+)

We report on a search for charmless hadronic B decays to the three-body final states K(0)(S)h(+)pi(-), K(+)h(-)pi(0), K(0)(S)h(+)pi(0) (h(+/-) denotes a charged pion or kaon), and their charge conjugates, using 13.5 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity produced near sqrt[s]=10.6 GeV, and collected with the CLEO detector. We observe the decay B-->K0pi(+)pi(-) with a branching fraction (50(+10)(-9)(stat.)+/-7(syst.))x10(-6) and the decay B-->K(*+)(892)pi(-) with a branching fraction (16(+6)(-5)(stat.)+/-2(syst.))x10(-6).     

Photochemistry without light - reaction of active oxalate esters with anthracenophanes

Certain anthracenophanes undergo photochemistry without light, sensitised by active oxalates. Although the quantum yield of sensitisation is extraordinarily high, no direct evidence for the expected radical cation intermediate has been found.     

Quantum oscillatory phenomena in graphite intercalated with AsF5

Both Shubnikov-de Haas and de Haas-van Alphen oscillations are reported for C_8nAsF₅ (n=1,2, is the stage number). The observed oscillations are interpreted in terms of a tight-binding model for the band structure, and good agreement with both band parameters and effective carrier masses is found. In addition, the effective charge transfer per AsF₅ molecule (f=.37 for stage 1, =.41 for stage 2) is in basic agreement with previous determinations.     

The reaction π−p → K0Σ0 up to 2375 MeV/c

Differential cross-section and polarization measurements for the reaction π^?p → K⁰Σ⁰ are presented from 1395 to 2375 MeV/c incident beam momentum. The polarization data from an earlier experiment, from thershold to 1334 MeV/c, have been re-analysed by an improved method leading to a substantial reduction in the errors.
