A preliminary experiment was carried out by the present authors in collaboration with R. Keitel to search for electron wind-induced
muon drift in copper at liquid helium temperatures. Drift was not observed, which is taken as support of Kondo's theory of
nonadiabatic damping of light interstitials in metals. The present paper discusses the possibility of increased current and
thinner foils and concludes that it should be possible with a carefully optimized experiment to detect muon drift. Weak longitudinal
fields do not appear to offer any advantage over the transverse fields in which the original experiment was performed. It
is proposed to look for wind-induced drift through muon trapping. Aluminum with manganese trapping centers offers a favorable

We report on the formation of responsive surfaces with tailorable surface reconstruction kinetics and switching hysteresis by thiolene radical addition of mercaptoalkanols with variable lengths to poly(vinylmethylsiloxane) networks. Exposing these elastomer surfaces to water results in rearrangement of the hydrophilic alkanes at the surface. The rearrangement kinetics decreases with increasing number of the methylene spacers (n) in the mercaptoalkanol. The response kinetics is found to be very fast for n = 2 and 6. For instance, upon exposing to water, the water contact angle on 3-mercaptopropanol-based surfaces decreases by approximately 35 degrees at the rate of 2 degrees /s. The high flexibility of the siloxane backbone endows these materials with switching longevity; the materials were able to switch their wettability over 10 cycles with minimum hysteresis. Increasing the number of methylene spacers to n = 11 decreases the surface reorganization dramatically. Formation of semicrystalline regions in such materials (detected via IR) is responsible for initial "sluggish" kinetics and eventual surface "freezing". 相似文献

The properties of GaAs Schottky barrier diodes as video detectors and mixing elements were investigated in the frequency range from 0.8–2.5 THz. For the most sensitive diode, the video responsivity and system noise temperature were measured as a function of incident laser power. The highest video responsivity was 2,000 V/W at 214m and 60 V/W at 118m. For five diodes differing in doping, capacitance, series resistance and anode diameter, the system noise temperature was measured at 214m and 118m. The best single sideband (SSB) values are 12,300 K and 24,200 K at 214m and 118m, respectively. The system noise temperature versus frequency is given over the range from 0.5–3 THz for two specific diodes demonstrating that the sharpness of the I–V characteristics is only of secondary importance for mixer perfomance at such high frequencies. 相似文献

Triple differential cross sections have been measured in the vicinity of the (2s 2)1 S autoionising state of helium, following impact by 200 eV electrons. The scattered electron detector was set at an angle of ?12° (anti-clockwise) and the forward and backward ejected electron angular ranges scanned. The direct ionisation cross section at an ejected electron energy of 33.5 eV has been obtained and the results for the resonant ionisation of the1 S state are presented in the Shore/Balashov parametrisation. These measurements are compared with previous experimental data and emphasise the need for new detailed theoretical calculations on the autoionisation process. 相似文献

A planar quasi-optical Schottky receiver based on the quasi-integrated horn antenna has been developed and tested over the 230–280GHz bandwidth. The receiver consists of a planar GaAs Schottky diode placed at the feed of a dipole-probe suspended on a thin dielectric membrane in an etched-pyramidal horn cavity. The diode has a 1.2m anode diameter and a low parasitic capacitance due to the use of an etched surface channel. The antenna-mixer results in a measured DSB conversion loss and noise temperature at 258GHz of 7.2dB±0.5dB and 1310K±70K, respectively, at room temperature. The design is compatible with SIS mixers, and the low cost of fabrication and simplicity makes it ideal for submillimeter-wave imaging arrays requiring a 10–20% bandwidth. 相似文献
