Rapidity distributions of protons from central 197Au+197Au collisions measured by the E895 Collaboration in the energy range from (2-8)A GeV at the Brookhaven AGS are presented. Longitudinal flow parameters derived using a thermal model including collective longitudinal expansion are extracted from these distributions. The results show an approximately linear increase in the longitudinal flow velocity, (L), as a function of the logarithm of beam energy.  相似文献

We report a preliminary measurement of coincident neutron-proton pairs emitted at 45° in the interaction of 400, 530, and 650 MeV/A neon beams incident on uranium. Charged particles were identified by time of flight and momentum, as determined in a magnetic spectrometer. Neutral particles were detected using a thick plastic scintillator, and their time of flight was measured between an entrance scintillator, triggered by a charged particle, and the neutron detector. The scatter plots and contour plots of neutron momentum vs. proton momentum appear to show a slight correlation ridge above an uncorrelated background. The projections of this plane on then-p momentum difference axis are essentially flat, showing a one standard deviation enhancement for each of the three beams energies. At each beam energy, the calculated momentum correlation function for the neutron-proton pairs is enhanced near zero neutron-proton momentum difference by approximately one standard deviation over the expected value for no correlation. This enhancement is expected to occur as a consequence of the attractive final state interaction between the neutron and proton (i.e., virtual or “singlet” deuterons). The implications of these measurements are discussed.  相似文献

Muon spin relaxation in low (weak) longitudinal magnetic field (LLF-μSR) provides a means of independently determining the static dipolar width Δ characterizing the μ+ lattice site and the correlation time τc for μ+ hopping, in a manner that is nearly model-independent for τc and especially accurate in the near-static limit (τcμ). The advantages of this method are illustrated by its application to muon hopping in Cu near the τc maximum around 50 K.  相似文献

We present the first excitation function of pi(-) intensity interferometry at Alternating Gradient Synchrotron (AGS) energies (2-8 A GeV). The sensitivity of the multidimensional correlation functions to the geometry and dynamics of the pion-emitting system provides a stringent test of transport models of heavy ion collisions. Detailed comparisons with a realistic transport model, both with and without an explicit nuclear mean field, suggest that the beam energy evolution in the reaction dynamics is different in the model than in the data. A significantly increased pi(-) emission time scale, which has been suggested as a signal of the onset of the transition to quark-gluon plasma, is not observed.  相似文献

We use 488 and 568 nm laser Raman spectroscopy under high pressure to selectively follow evolution of Raman G-mode signals of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) of selected diameters and chiralities ((6, 5) and (6, 4)). The G-mode pressure coefficients of tubes from our previous work are consistent with the thick-wall tube model. Here we report the observation of well-resolved G-minus peaks in the Raman spectrum of SWCNTs in a diamond-anvil cell. The pressure coefficients of these identified tubes in water, however, are unexpected, having the high value of over 9 cm?1 GPa?1 for the G-plus and the G-minus, and surprisingly the shift rates of the same tubes in hexane have clearly lower values. We also report an abrupt increase of G-minus peak width at about 4 GPa superposed on a continuous peak broadening with pressure.  相似文献

The practice of stepping a conveying line is not new and there are many examples in industry; however, the details of the flow behaviour at the step have not been extensively studied. Three step geometries were modelled: an ‘abrupt’ step and two ‘gradual’ step-up geometries from a pipe bore of 75–100 mm. The flow behaviour of a single plug of material passing through these geometries was investigated using the ‘Eulerian’ CFD model from Fluent. Solids volume fractions were recorded at 0.01 s time steps at several point locations, and visualised throughout the pipe.  相似文献

Since the identification of variant Creutzfeldt–Jacob Disease in the late 1980s, the possibility that this disease might be passed on via blood transfusion has presented challenging policy questions for Government and blood services in the UK. This paper discusses the use of mathematical modelling to inform policy in this area of health protection. We focus on the use of a relatively simple analytical model to explore how many such infections might eventually be expected to result in clinical cases under a range of alternative scenarios of interest to policy, and on the potential impact of possible additional counter measures. We comment on the value of triangulating between findings generated using distinct modelling approaches and observational data.  相似文献
