We analyze in this article the evolution of the chemical bonding in group III nitrides (MN, M = Al, Ga, In), from the N-N bond dominated small clusters to the M-N bond dominated crystals, with the aim of explaining how the strong multiple bond of N(2) is destabilized with the increase in coordination. The picture that emerges is that of a partially ionic bond in the solid state, which is also present in all the clusters. The covalent N-N bond, however, shows a gradual decrease of its strength due to the charge transfer from the metal atoms. Overall, Al clusters are more ionic than Ga and In clusters, and thus the N-N bond is weakest in them. The nitrogen atom charge is seen to be proportional to the metal coordination, being thus a bond-related property, and dependent on the M-N distance. This explains the behavior observed in previous investigations, and can be used as a guide in predicting the structures and defects on semiconductor quantum dot or thin film devices of these compounds.  相似文献

Different exhaustive and fuzzy partitions of the molecular electron density (rho) into atomic densities (rho(A)) are used to compute the atomic charges (Q(A)) of a representative set of molecules. The Q(A)'s derived from a direct integration of rho(A) are compared to those obtained from integrating the deformation density rho(def) = rho - rho(0) within each atomic domain. Our analysis shows that the latter methods tend to give Q(A)'s similar to those of the (arbitrary) reference atomic densities rho(A)(0) used in the definition of the promolecular density, rho(0) = SigmaArho(A)(0). Moreover, we show that the basis set independence of these charges is a sign not of their intrinsic quality, as commonly stated, but of the practical insensitivity on the basis set of the atomic domains that are employed in this type of methods.  相似文献

Light bends the wrong way in materials where both ε and μ are negative as was pointed out in 1968, but the absence of natural materials with this property led to neglect of the subject until 1999 when it was shown how to make artificial materials, metamaterials, with negative μ. The rapid advance of the subject since that date, both in theory and experiment, is reflected in the exponential growth of publications now at the 200 per year level and still growing. This interest is explained by the sudden availability of a qualitatively different class of electromagnetic materials combined with the quite startling properties which these materials appear to have; all of which provokes debate as each new facet of their behaviour is revealed. Experiment has been vital to resolution of controversy and has chiefly been in the microwave region of the spectrum though there is potential in the optical region currently being explored by several groups.  相似文献

The synthesis of 12-epi-ent-polyalthenol, 10, and its epimer at C-19, 11, from ent-halimic acid as starting material has been carried out. The structure of the natural product polyalthenol 1 is confirmed in this way. The synthesized indole sesquiterpenes 10 and 11 and their acetylderivatives 32 and 33 inhibited cellular proliferation of a number of human leukaemic and solid tumour cell lines.  相似文献

A global optimization of stoichiometric (AlN)(n) clusters (n = 1-25, 30, 35, ..., 95, 100) has been performed using the basin-hopping (BH) method and describing the interactions with simple and yet realistic interatomic potentials. The results for the smaller isomers agree with those of previous electronic structure calculations, thus validating the present scheme. The lowest-energy isomers found can be classified in three different categories according to their structural motifs: (i) small clusters (n = 2-5), with planar ring structures and 2-fold coordination, (ii) medium clusters (n = 6-40), where a competition between stacked rings and globular-like empty cages exists, and (iii) large clusters (n > 40), large enough to mix different elements of the previous stage. All the atoms in small and medium-sized clusters are in the surface, while large clusters start to display interior atoms. Large clusters display a competition between tetrahedral and octahedral-like features: the former lead to a lower energy interior in the cluster, while the latter allow for surface terminations with a lower energy. All of the properties studied present different regimes according to the above classification. It is of particular interest that the local properties of the interior atoms do converge to the bulk limit. The isomers with n = 6 and 12 are specially stable with respect to the gain or loss of AlN molecules.  相似文献

The results of density functional theory based calculations on Ga3O, Ga3O2, Ga3O3, Ga2O3, and GaO3 clusters are reported here. A preference for planar arrangement of the constituent atoms maximizing the ionic interactions is found in the ground state of the clusters considered. The sequential oxidation of the metal-excess clusters increases the binding energy, but the sequential removal of a metal atom from the oxygen-excess clusters decreases the binding energy. The increase in the oxygen to metal ratio in these clusters is accompanied by increase in both electron affinity and ionization potential. The ionization induced structural distortions in the neutral clusters are relatively small, except those for Ga3O2. In anionic (cationic) clusters, the added (ionized) electron is shared by the Ga atoms, except in the case of GaO3. The vibrational frequencies and charge density analysis reveal the importance of the ionic Ga-O bond in stabilizing the gallium oxide clusters considered in this study.  相似文献

The transition of the level density parameter a off from the low excitation energy value a off=A/8 MeV−1 to the Fermi gas value a FGA/15 MeV−1 was discovered a few years ago studying particle spectra evaporated from hot compound systems of A∼ 160. A number of experiments have been recently performed to confirm the earlier findings and extend the investigation to other mass regions and to higher excitation energies. Furthermore, precision coincidence experiments have been done in the lead region in which evaporation residues are tagged by low energy gammarays. Those experiments open the possibility of a detailed study of the level densities in nuclei where the shell effects are important.  相似文献
