An uncharged, water-soluble per-ethylene-glycol pillar[5]arene derivative ( 1 ) was synthesized and its aggregation mode, host-guest chemistry in water and extraction ability was explored. Compound 1 is a liquid at room temperature; in water, limited self-aggregation occurred at high concentrations as deduced from diffusion NMR and dynamic light scattering. Compound 1 forms pseudo-rotaxane-like 1 : 1 host-guest complexes with 1,ω-di-substituted alkanes with association constants on the order of 103–104 m −1. Interestingly, NMR experiments showed that the guest location relative to the host ring system differs among the different complexes. In proof-of-concept experiments, compound 1 was shown to extract structurally related organic compounds from benzene into water with significant selectivity. Compound 1 , which is a liquid at room temperature and has only limited interactions with its side arms, can, in principle, be regarded as a complement to or as a kind of type I porous liquid.  相似文献

We present the first experimental demonstration of lensless diffractive imaging using coherent soft x rays generated by a tabletop soft-x-ray source. A 29 nm high harmonic beam illuminates an object, and the subsequent diffraction is collected on an x-ray CCD camera. High dynamic range diffraction patterns are obtained by taking multiple exposures while blocking small-angle diffraction using beam blocks of varying size. These patterns reconstruct to images with 214 nm resolution. This work demonstrates a practical tabletop lensless microscope that promises to find applications in materials science, nanoscience, and biology.  相似文献

Stromal cell-derived factor 1α (SDF-1α) or CXCL12 is a small pro-inflammatory chemoattractant cytokine and a substrate of dipeptidyl peptidase IV (DPP-IV). Proteolytic cleavage by DPP-IV inactivates SDF-1α and attenuates its interaction with CXCR4, its cell surface receptor. To enable investigation of suppression of such inactivation with pharmacologic inhibition of DPP-IV, we developed quantitative mass spectrometric methods that differentiate intact SDF-1α from its inactive form. Using top-down strategy in quantification, we demonstrated the unique advantage of keeping SDF-1α’s two disulfide bridges intact in the analysis. To achieve the optimal sensitivity required for quantification of intact and truncated SDF-1α at endogenous levels in blood, we coupled nano-flow tandem mass spectrometry with antibody-based affinity enrichment. The assay has a quantitative range of 20 pmol/L to 20 nmol/L in human plasma as well as in rhesus monkey plasma. With only slight modification, the same assay can be used to quantify SDF-1α in mice. Using two in vivo animal studies as examples, we demonstrated that it was critical to differentiate intact SDF-1α from its truncated form in the analysis of biomarkers for pharmacologic inhibition of DPP-IV activity. These novel methods enable translational research on suppression of SDF-1 inactivation with DPP-IV inhibition and can be applied to relevant clinical samples in the future to yield new insights on change of SDF-1α levels in disease settings and in response to therapeutic interventions.

Auger-Electron-Spectroscopy (AES) and Direct-Recoils-Spectrometry (DRS) were applied to study the interaction of O2 with a polycrystalline gadolinium surface, in the temperature range 300–670 K and oxygen pressure up to 2 × 10? 6 Torr. It has been found that initial uptake of oxygen, at coverage measurable by the techniques used here, results in rapid oxide island formation. The subsurface is believed to be a mixture of oxide particles and oxygen dissolved in the Gd metal, the latter being the mobile species, even at relatively low temperatures.Enhanced inward diffusion of oxygen starts as early as 420 K and dictates the surface oxygen concentration and effective thickness of the forming oxide. The oxygen accumulation rate at the near-surface region, as measured by the O(KLL) AES signal intensity, goes through a maximum as a function of temperature at 420 K. This is a result of the combination of still efficient oxygen chemisorption that increases surface occupation and slow inward diffusion. The thickest oxide, ~ 1.7 nm, is formed at 300 K and its effective thickness was found to decrease with increasing temperature (due to oxygen dissolution into the metal bulk).Diffusion coefficients of the oxygen dissolution into the bulk were evaluated for various temperatures utilizing models for infinitely thin oxide layer and thick oxide layer, respectively. The best fit under our experimental procedure was obtained by the thick layer model, and the coefficients that were calculated are D0 = 2.2 × 10? 16m2s? 1 and Ea = 46kJ/mol.  相似文献

The thermoelectric power (TEP) of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) is extremely sensitive to gas exposure history. Samples exposed to air or oxygen have an always positive TEP, suggestive of holelike carriers. However, at fixed temperature the TEP crosses zero and becomes progressively more negative as the SWNTs are stripped of oxygen. The time constant for oxygen adsorption/desorption is strongly temperature dependent and ranges from seconds to many days, leading to apparently "variable" TEP for a given sample at a given temperature. The saturated TEP can be accounted for within a model of strong oxygen doping of the semiconducting nanotubes.  相似文献

Properties ofR-matrix theory that are useful for studying muon-catalyzed fusion reactions are reviewed, and applications to the dt system are discussed, using both improved adiabatic and non-adiabatic (variational) wave functions. We give complex eigenvalues and - sticking fractions for the (L, v)=(0,0) and (0, 1) states of dt using variational Hamiltonian matrix elements that have been properly symmetrized by means of the Block operator. Expressions for the fusion rate and - sticking fraction are developed from a time-dependent theory that uses the complex-energy states corresponding to the poles of the systemS-matrix. These are shown to reduce with the appropriate approximations to the expressions and values commonly used. Additional nuclear effects on these quantities can easily be studied within the framework developed, but they are not expected to be large.  相似文献

We study numerically the nature of the diffusion process on a honeycomb and a quasi-lattice, where a point particle, moving along the bonds of the lattice, scatters from randomly placed scatterers on the lattice sites according to strictly deterministic rules. For the honeycomb lattice fully occupied by fixed rotators two (symmetric) isolated critical points appear to be present, with the same hyperscaling relation as for the square and the triangular lattices. No such points appear to exist for the quasi-lattice. A comprehensive comparison is made with the behavior on the previously studied square and triangular lattices. A great variety of diffusive behavior is found, ranging from propagation, superdiffusion, normal, quasi-normal, and anomalous, to absence of diffusion. The influence of the scattering rules as well as of the lattice structure on the diffusive behavior of a point particle moving on the all lattices studied so far is summarized.  相似文献

Let n be a positive integer, L a subset of {0, 1,…,n}. We discuss the existence of partitions (or tilings) of the n-dimensional binary vector space Fn into L-spheres. By a L-sphere around an x in Fn we mean {y ? Fn, d(x, y) ? L}, d(x, y) being the Hamming distance betwe en x and y. These tilings are generalizations of perfect error correcting codes. A series of experiments was performed to examine the extent to which precision of interaural time discrimination depends on the sound-pressure level (SPL) and/or sensation level (SL) of the signal. All experiments used a tone burst signal and a continuous white noise masker, which was either diotic or interaurally phase reversed. Results of the first experiment indicate that (1) at equal signal SLs, interaural time and intensity discrimination is more precise when measured with the added diotic noise, and (2) addition of the phase reversed noise, previously shown to cause less precise interaural time discrimination, has a similar effect on interaural intensity discrimination. In the second experiment, interaural time JNDs for a signal of constant SPL were measured as a function of noise level. Results show that a low-level diotic noise can benefit interaural time discrimination, particularly at 500 Hz. The third and fourth experiments were performed to measure interaural time discrimination as a function of increasing signal SPL but constant signal-to-noise ratio. The data show the JND decreasing with increasing signal SPL at nearly the same rate with or without the added noise, indicating that an increase in signal-to-noise ratio is not necessary for improved discrimination.  相似文献

Background  

Previous studies showed that anodal transcranial DC stimulation (tDCS) applied to the primary motor cortex of the affected hemisphere (M1affected hemisphere) after subcortical stroke transiently improves performance of complex tasks that mimic activities of daily living (ADL). It is not known if relatively simpler motor tasks are similarly affected. Here we tested the effects of tDCS on pinch force (PF) and simple reaction time (RT) tasks in patients with chronic stroke in a double-blind cross-over Sham-controlled experimental design.  相似文献
