Background  

It is well established that nucleus basalis magnocellularis (NbM) lesions impair performance on tests of sustained attention. Previous work from this laboratory has also demonstrated that pedunculopontine tegmental nucleus (PPTg) lesioned rats make more omissions on a test of sustained attention, suggesting that it might also play a role in mediating this function. However, the results of the PPTg study were open to alternative interpretation. We aimed to resolve this by conducting a detailed analysis of the effects of damage to each brain region in the same sustained attention task used in our previous work. Rats were trained in the task before surgery and post-surgical testing examined performance in response to unpredictable light signals of 1500 ms and 4000 ms duration. Data for PPTg lesioned rats were compared to control rats, and rats with 192 IgG saporin infusions centred on the NbM. In addition to operant data, video data of rats' performance during the task were also analysed.  相似文献

Conformational preferences of glutaric, 3‐hydroxyglutaric and 3‐methylglutaric acid, and their mono‐ and dianions have been investigated with the aid of NMR spectroscopy. In contrast to succinic acid, glutaric acid displays essentially statistical conformational equilibria in polar and non‐polar solutions of high and low hydrogen‐bonding ability with no clear evidence for intramolecular hydrogen‐bonding interactions. The acid ionization constant ratios, K 1/K2, in D2O and DMSO of glutaric, 3‐hydroxyglutaric, and 3‐methylglutaric acids also indicate that intramolecular interactions are much less important than, or indeed insignificant, for shorter‐chain acids. FTIR studies on 3‐methylglutaric acid indicate some preference for either association with solvent or dimerization, depending on the solvent, rather than intramolecular hydrogen bonding. The aim of this paper is to describe the present position in the experimental determination of entropies of adsorption. After pointing out the limitations of the “isosteric” approach and after stressing the fact that the most interesting entropy to know is the integral molar entropy of adsorption, the authors show how the use of isothermal adsorption microcalorimetry, with a special quasi-reversible procedure, allows this entropy to be determined satisfactorily from the thermodynamic point of view.  相似文献

The mechanism of insertion of p-nitroaniline (PNA) and its diffusion behavior in channels of the hexagonal host structure of tris(o-phenylenedioxy)cyclotriphosphazene (TPP) was investigated by means of molecular modeling tools. Strong preferential sites in the bulk were found to be due to pi-pi and NH-pi interactions between PNA and channel walls of TPP. MD simulations showed that diffusion can be characterized by jumps from one site to the next, occurring mainly because of the dynamic flexibility of the host structure. Calculations of host-guest interactions between the TPP surface and PNA approaching the entrance of channels with its terminal H2N-first or O2N-first revealed that the H2N-first insertion is clearly preferred. Preferential insertion of PNA is found to be the reason for polar effects, observed experimentally. Because of a distinct guest-host recognition at the surface, guest-guest interactions were found to have a minor influence on polarity.  相似文献

[reaction: see text] The synthesis of the carbasugar analogue of 1,4-anhydro-beta-d-galactopyranose, a proposed intermediate in the reaction catalyzed by uridine diphosphate-alpha-d-Galp mutase, in racemic form via Diels-Alder and Barton decarboxylation chemistry is reported. This compound was found not to inhibit the mutase from Mycobacterium tuberculosis, indicating that the enzyme does not possess a 1,4-anhydro-beta-d-galactopyranose binding pocket.  相似文献

Time reversal arrays are becoming common tools whether for detection or tomography. These applications require the measurement of the response from the array to one or several receivers. The most natural way to record the impulse responses for several sources is to generate pulses successively from each emitting point and record simultaneously the signals from the receivers. However, this method is very time consuming or inefficient in terms of signal-to-noise ratio. To overcome this limitation quasi-orthogonal pseudonoise signals like Kasami sequences can be used. For guided wave propagation, a very high degree of orthogonality between the signal is necessary to allow an accurate measure of the whole multipath structure of the transfer function. Hence, in this work, we propose a new family of pseudo-orthogonal signals that is adapted to the environment and more specifically, to highly dispersive media. These adaptive instant records signals are used experimentally to detect targets using the time reversal operator decomposition method. The accuracy of the 15 x 15 transfer functions acquired simultaneously, and therefore the detection capability, are demonstrated in an experimental ultrasonic waveguide as a small-scale model of shallow water propagation including bottom absorption and reverberation.  相似文献

Polystyrene-bound cumulated ylide Ph3PCCO was prepared on a large scale in two steps. It reacts with Grignard compounds, amines and alcohols to give immobilized acyl, amide and ester ylides, respectively. Their Wittig reactions lead to alkenes free of phosphane oxide. Optically pure 5-substituted tetramates were obtained from reactions of resin-bound Ph3PCCO with alpha-ammonium esters in one step. The mycotoxin (-)-tenuazonic acid was accordingly prepared in just three steps.  相似文献
