The influence of a hydrogen bond donor and acceptor in the hydrophobic part of an amphiphile on the monolayer stability at the air/water interface is investigated. For that purpose, the amide group is integrated into the alkyl chain. Eight methyl octadecanoates have been synthesized with the amide group in two orientations and in different positions of the alkyl chain, namely, CH3O2C(CH2)m NHCO(CH2)n CH3 (n + m = 14): 1 (m = 1), 3 (m = 2), 5 (m = 3), 7 (m = 14); and CH3O2C(CH2)m CONH(CH2)n CH3: 2 (m = 1), 4 (m = 2), 6 (m = 3), 8 (m = 14). The monolayers have been characterized by their pi/A isotherms, their temperature dependence and Brewster angle microscopy (BAM). Amphiphile 1 with the amide group close to the ester group (m = 1) behaves like an unsubstituted fatty acid ester, while 3, 5, and 7, with the amide group in an intermediate and terminal position, exhibit a two-phase region. The amphiphiles 2, 4, 6, and 8, with a reversed orientation of the amide group, all exhibit a two-phase region with higher plateau pressures and lower collapse pressures than those of 1, 3, 5, and 7. For 7 and 8, domains of the liquid condensed (LC) phase are visualized by BAM in the two-phase region. The liquid expanded (LE)/LC-phase transitions are all exothermic with enthalpies deltaH ranging from -31 to -12 kJ/mol. Comparison with other bipolar amphiphiles indicates that the LC phase is better stabilized by the hydroxy and dihydroxy groups than by the amide group. For model compounds of 1-4, optimized conformers in the LE and LC phases have been determined by density functional theory (DFT) calculations.  相似文献

Protein-resistant films derived from the fifth-generation poly(amidoamine) dendrimers (PAMAM G5) functionalized with oligo(ethylene glycol) (OEG) derivatives consisting of various ethylene glycol units (EG(n), n = 3, 4, and 6) were prepared on the self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) of 11-mercaptoundecanoic acid (MUA) on gold substrates. The resulting films were characterized by ellipsometry, contact angle goniometry, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). About 35% of the peripheral amines of the dendrimers were reacted with N-hydroxysuccinimide-terminated EG(n) derivatives (NHS-EG(n)). The dendrimer films showed improved stability over octadecanethiolate SAMs on gold in hot solvents, attributed to the formation of multiple amide bonds per PAMAM unit with underlying NHS-activated MUA monolayer. The EG(n)-attached PAMAM surfaces with n = 3 reduced the adsorption of fibrinogen to approximately 20% monolayer, whereas 2-3% for n = 4 or 6. The dendrimer films with various densities of EG(n) molecules on PAMAM surfaces were prepared by immersion of the NHS-terminated MUA-functionalized gold substrates in ethanolic solutions containing PAMAM and NHS-EG(n) of various mole ratios. The density (r) of the EG(n) molecules on the PAMAM surfaces is consistent with the mole ratio (r') of NHS-EG(n)/free amine of PAMAM in solutions. The resistance to protein adsorption of the resulting surfaces is correlated with the surface density and the length of the EG chains. At their respective r, the EG(n)-modified dendrimer films resisted approximately 95% adsorption of fibrinogen on gold surfaces. Finally, the specific binding of avidin to the approximately 5% and approximately 40% biotinylated EG3 dendrimers (surface density of biotin with respect to the total number of terminal amino groups on PAMAM G5) gave rise to about 50% and 100% surface coverage by avidin, respectively.  相似文献

The new Cu/SiO2 catalyst is developed by the atomic layer epitaxy (ALE) method. The ALE-Cu/SiO2 catalyst with high dispersion and nanoscale Cu particles appears to have very different catalytic properties from those of the typical Cu-based catalysts, which have satisfactory thermal stability to resist the sintering of Cu particles at 773 K. Due to the formation of small Cu particles, the ALE-Cu/SiO2 can strongly bind CO and give high catalytic activity for CO2 converted to CO in the reverse water-gas-shift reaction. The catalytic activity decreases in the order of 2.4% ALE-Cu/SiO2 =... 2% Pt/SiO2 > 2% Pd/SiO2 > 10.3% IM-Cu/SiO2.  相似文献

Orientation molecular dynamics were investigated in a series of "defect-free" oligofluorenes by depolarized dynamic light scattering and dynamic NMR spectroscopy. Typical liquid crystalline pretransitional dynamics were observed upon cooling the isotropic phase to the liquid crystalline phase with strong increase of the scattered intensity and slowing down of the characteristic time of the probed collective relaxation. This is well accounted for by the Landau-de Gennes theory, however, with a strong temperature dependence of the viscosity coefficient, reflecting the proximity of the glass transition. For the trimer the two transitions almost overlap and the molecular orientation coincide with the alpha-relaxation associated with the glass transition. The NMR measurements confirm that the time scale of the dynamics is completely governed by the glass process, yet the geometry of the motion is anisotropic, yielding order parameters ranging from 0.15 to 0.25 for the long axis in the liquid crystalline phase. The glass transition is therefore geometrically restricted with poorly ordered mesophase which is consistent with the weak transverse phonons in the light scattering experiment down to Tg+20 K.  相似文献

The tert-butanethiol self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) on Au(111) surfaces were prepared from various solvents and investigated by a combination of scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and electrochemistry in aqueous environments. High-resolution STM images reveal a (radical(7) x radical(7))R19 degrees surface lattice structure, in contrast with the conventional lattice (radical(3) x radical(3))R30 degrees structure for straight-chain alkanethiol SAMs. Interestingly, such a branched monolayer shows electrochemical rectification toward redox probes. We suggest that electrochemical rectification could be a general characteristic of short-chain branched alkanthiol SAMs, and originate in localized electronic effects.  相似文献

We have synthesized a series of novel coplanar chromophores in which heteroarenes, namely, thiophene, benzothiophene, and carbazole, were fused to neighboring phenylene ring(s) through intramolecular annulation via sp(3)-hybridized carbon atoms bearing two p-tolyl groups as peripheral substituents. The molecular configurations of the pi-conjugated backbones were determined by X-ray crystallographic analysis; the heteroarene-fused molecular frameworks of these novel molecules exhibit nearly coplanar conformations. Using a data sample of 58 x 10(6) J/psi decays collected with the Beijing Spectrometer II detector at the Beijing Electron Positron Collider, searches for invisible decays of eta and eta' in J/psi to phi eta and phi eta' are performed. The phi signals, which are reconstructed in K+K- final states, are used to tag the eta and eta' decays. No signals are found for the invisible decays of either eta or eta', and upper limits at the 90% confidence level are determined to be 1.65 x 10(-3) for the ratio B(eta-->invisible)/B(eta --> gamma gamma) and 6.69 x 10(-2) for B(eta' --> invisible)/B(eta' --> gammagamma). These are the first searches for eta and eta' decays into invisible final states.  相似文献

Using a narrowly distributed poly(N-isoporpylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) chain with a degree of polymerization (N) of 3100, randomly labeled with pyrene, we have, for the first time, observed the two-stage kinetics of the coil-to-globule transition. Two characteristic relaxation times, tau(fast) for the crumpling of a random coil (approximately 12 ms) and tau(slow) for the collapsing of the crumpled chain to a compact globule (approximately 270 ms), were measured. To our knowledge, this is the first experimental evidence supporting the two-stage collapsing kinetics of single synthetic polymer chain previously proposed by de Gennes, Dawson, and Grosberg.  相似文献

A broad peak is observed at low K+K- invariant mass in J/psi-->K+K-pi(0) decays found in a sample of 5.8x10(7) J/psi events collected with the BESII detector. The statistical significance of the broad resonance is much larger than 5sigma. A partial wave analysis shows that the J;{PC} of this structure is 1--. Its pole position is determined to be [1576(-55)(+49)(stat)-91+98(syst)] MeV/c(2)-i/2[818(-23)(+22)(stat)-133+64(syst)] MeV/c(2). These parameters are not compatible with any known meson resonances.  相似文献
