Controlling the spectrum of high-power terahertz radiation from a laser-driven plasma wave

Generation of strong THz waves is a very important and difficult research issue. We performed particle-in-cell (PIC) simulation studies to investigate the possibility of powerful THz generation and spectrum controllability by using a laser-driven plasma wave. Our results show that it is possible to produce spectrum-controllable high-power (>1 MV/cm) THz waves by manipulating the plasma density profiles. This method may provide a good way for coherent high-power THz radiation sources, of which the spectrum ranges from a narrow bandwidth to a wide bandwidth.     

Synthesis of new di-anchoring organic sensitizer based on quinoxaline acceptor for dye-sensitized solar cells

New quinoxaline-based organic sensitizer bearing di-anchoring group for dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) was synthesized from diethyl 4,5-diaminophthaltate, in which was prepared under mild condition by using Takehito’s method. The synthesized sensitizer was compared with mono-anchoring sensitizer through absorption spectra, emission spectra, J-V curve, and IPCE spectra, indicating the di-anchoring group leads to a noticeable improvement of J_sc value owing to more efficient intramolecular charge transfer and channel number increment.     

The Bishop-Phelps-Bollobás Theorem for operators from c 0 to uniformly convex spaces

We show that the pair of Banach spaces (c ₀, Y) has the Bishop-Phelps-Bollobás property when Y is uniformly convex. Further, when Y is strictly convex, if (c ₀, Y) has the Bishop-Phelps-Bollobás property then Y is uniformly convex for the case of real Banach spaces. As a corollary, we show that the Bishop-Phelps-Bollobás theorem holds for bilinear forms on c ₀ × ? _p (1 < p < ∞).

Improvement of window thermal performance using aerogel insulation film for building energy saving

In buildings, windows have a major influence on space heating demand and indoor environment both with respect to climate and daylight. To reduce the window coefficient of the overall heat transmission, we use aerogel. Aerogels have a high surface area, low density, open pore structure, and excellent insulation properties. We mixed pressure sensitive adhesive and aerogel (10, 15, and 20 mass%) using a homogenizer. A mixture of the adhesives and silica aerogels attached film can reduce thermal conductivity. Silica aerogels are characterized by a surface area analyzer (BET), a Fourier transform infrared spectrometer, a thermogravimetry (TG) analyzer, and probe tack method. Thermal conductivity was measured by a TCi thermal conductivity analyzer.
