Verification of three-dimensional laser Doppler velocimeter measurements

An experimental comparison method is proposed for the verification of mean flow and turbulence measurements obtained with a three-dimensional laser Doppler velocimeter system. Such measurements can include large errors caused by problems unique to three-dimensional systems. Direct comparisons of laser and hot cross-wire measurements obtained in two-dimensional flows, as is the common practice, will not bear out all the errors associated with three-dimensional laser systems. It is proposed here that the errors may be adequately quantified by making the direct comparisons in a weakly three-dimensional turbulent shear flow. The weak three-dimensional flow ensures high accuracy of the cross-wire data while still generating sufficiently strong secondary mean flow and Reynolds shear stresses so that all the laser measurements may be fully verified. This type of shear flow is easily generated by introducing a weak streamwise vortex into a nominally two-dimensional turbulent shear layer.     

Moment method analysis of charge distribution & capacitance for the dielectric coated tilted plates isolated in free space

This paper presents a method for the evaluation of the capacitance of the dielectric coated metallic plates forming a corner using the method of moments based on the pulse basis function and the point matching. Two integral equations are formed based on the boundary conditions for the potential on the conductor surface and continuity of the normal component of the displacement flux density at the dielectric-free space interface. A set of simultaneous equations are formed from the two integral equations using the method of moments. The total free charge on the conductor surface is found from the solution of the set of simultaneous equations. Numerical data on the capacitance and the charge distribution are presented. The validity of the analysis has been justified by comparing the data on the capacitance that is available in the literature for a metallic structure with the data on the capacitance computed with the present method for a similar structure considering a very low dielectric constant as well as a very thin dielectric coating. Further validation has been carried out by comparing the capacitance data of the specific case when the angle between two metallic plates is 180° forming a dielectric coated metallic rectangular plate for which the capacitance data are available in the literature.     

Observation of inverse Meyer–Neldel rule in thermally activated crystallization of a hybrid composite of phenol formaldehyde

We report the inverse Meyer–Neldel (MN) rule in the thermally activated crystallization of a hybrid composite of phenol formaldehyde using two experimental approaches. In the first experiment, the annealing time dependence of the pre-exponential factor K ₀ and the activation energy of crystallization E _c were studied. In the second experiment, the annealing temperature dependence of the same parameters was investigated. We observed the inverse Meyer–Neldel rule between the pre-exponential factor K ₀ and the activation energy of crystallization E _c in both cases.     

A de novo Diels-Alder strategy toward the novel pentacyclic natural product fluostatin C: a concise synthesis of 6-deoxyfluostatin C

A conceptually new Diels-Alder approach, involving a diene moiety grafted on a preformed epoxyquinone platform and a 4-hydroxy-indenone as the dienophile, delivers the pentacyclic framework of fluostatin C in one key step.     

High spin states in120Xe

High spin states in ¹²⁰Xe, populated via¹⁰⁷Ag(¹⁶O, p2n) and¹⁰⁸Pd(¹⁶O, 4n)reactions have been studied using γ-ray spectroscopic techniques. 21 new transitions have been added to extend the level scheme. Two S-bands are extended upto 26⁺ and 22⁺;these bands are found to cross the g. s band at hΩ=0. 39 and 0. 47 MeV. The band structures have been discussed within the framework of CSM.     

Weakly analytic sets for function spaces

We define and study weakly analytic sets for function spaces. This concept generalizes the concept of weak analyticity for function algebras. We also define weak analyticity for the space of affine functions using the ideas of convexity. We show that it coincides with the same concept regarding it as a function space. We give several examples to illustrate the concepts.
