This article describes mild methods to directly assemble, functionalize, and pattern monolayers of undecylenic acid on hydrogen-terminated Si(111). These monolayers were assembled under very mild conditions from a neat solution of undecylenic acid containing 0.1 mol % 4-(decanoate)-2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidinooxy at room temperature without the need for UV light. Because of these mild conditions, monolayers exposing carboxylic acids could be assembled in one step without the need to protect the acid prior to its assembly. The monolayers were extensively characterized by horizontal attenuated total reflection infrared spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and contact angle goniometry. The monolayers bonded to the silicon surface preferentially through the olefin with no detectable bonds between the carboxylic acids and silicon. The crystallinity of the monolayer was studied by infrared spectroscopy through the antisymmetric--v(a)(CH(2))--and symmetric--v(s)(CH(2))--stretches for methylene. Because it is important for future applications to assemble functional surfaces, methods to react the acid-terminated monolayers with trifluoroacetic anhydride and triethylamine to yield a symmetric anhydride on the monolayer were studied. These anhydrides were reacted with a variety of milligram-quantity amines to yield amide-terminated surfaces. This method was general, and a variety of amines could be bonded to the monolayer. The stabilities of these monolayers upon exposure to ambient conditions and under a variety of solvents were described. Because patterned monolayers have found wide applications, we have developed methods to pattern 1-octadecylamine and poly(ethylenimine) on the micrometer scale using soft lithography. In addition, polymer brushes of polynorbornene with thicknesses from 32 to 150 nm were grown from monolayers patterned with the Grubbs' catalyst. The patterned surfaces were imaged by scanning electron microscopy, scanning probe microscopy, and ellipsometry to determine the thicknesses of the patterns and the fidelity of the method.  相似文献

Self-assembling biomolecules that form highly ordered structures have attracted interest as potential alternatives to conventional lithographic processes for patterning materials. Here, we introduce a general technique for patterning nanoparticle arrays using two-dimensional crystals of genetically modified hollow protein structures called chaperonins. Constrained chemical synthesis of transition metal nanoparticles is initiated using templates functionalized with polyhistidine sequences. These nanoparticles are ordered into arrays because the template-driven synthesis is constrained by the nanoscale structure of the crystallized protein. We anticipate that this system may be used to pattern different classes of nanoparticles based on the growing library of sequences shown to specifically bind or direct the growth of materials.  相似文献

We describe the synthesis and characterization of three new polymerizable benzophenone derivatives [2‐acryloxy‐5‐methyl benzophenone ( 8 ), 4′‐dimethylamino‐2‐acryloxy‐5‐methyl benzophenone ( 9 ), and 4′‐dimethylamino‐2‐(β‐acryloxyethyl)oxy‐5‐methyl benzophenone ( 10 )]. We show that these monomers can successfully be incorporated into vinyl acetate (VAc) copolymer latex particles. These particles were prepared by semicontinuous emulsion polymerization and mini‐emulsion polymerization of VAc with butylacrylate (BA) for VAc/BA = 4/1 by weight. The two monomers 9 and 10 bearing the 4′‐dimethylamino group satisfy the important spectroscopic criteria required of a dye to serve as an acceptor chromophore for nonradiative energy transfer from phenanthrene (Phe) as the donor. Their UV absorption spectra suggest significant overlap with the emission spectrum of Phe, which can be incorporated into P(VAc‐co‐BA) latex through copolymerization with 9‐acryloxymethyl Phe ( 2 ). In addition, these chromophores provide a window in their absorption spectra for excitation of the Phe chromophore at 300 nm. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The redox chemistry of uranium is dominated by single electron transfer reactions while single metal four-electron transfers remain unknown in f-element chemistry. Here we show that the oxo bridged diuranium(iii) complex [K(2.2.2-cryptand)]2[{((Me3Si)2N)3U}2(μ-O)], 1, effects the two-electron reduction of diphenylacetylene and the four-electron reduction of azobenzene through a masked U(ii) intermediate affording a stable metallacyclopropene complex of uranium(iv), [K(2.2.2-cryptand)][U(η2-C2Ph2){N(SiMe3)2}3], 3, and a bis(imido)uranium(vi) complex [K(2.2.2-cryptand)][U(NPh)2{N(SiMe3)2}3], 4, respectively. The same reactivity is observed for the previously reported U(ii) complex [K(2.2.2-cryptand)][U{N(SiMe3)2}3], 2. Computational studies indicate that the four-electron reduction of azobenzene occurs at a single U(ii) centre via two consecutive two-electron transfers and involves the formation of a U(iv) hydrazide intermediate. The isolation of the cis-hydrazide intermediate [K(2.2.2-cryptand)][U(N2Ph2){N(SiMe3)2}3], 5, corroborated the mechanism proposed for the formation of the U(vi) bis(imido) complex. The reduction of azobenzene by U(ii) provided the first example of a “clear-cut” single metal four-electron transfer in f-element chemistry.

Both a masked and the actual complex [U(ii){N(SiMe3)2}3]+ effect the reduction of azobenzene to yield a U(vi) bis-imido species providing the first example of a “clear-cut” metal centred four-electron reduction in f-element chemistry.  相似文献

The synthesis and selected reactions of 2-amino-3-(cyanomethylsulfonyl)thiophene is reported. In particular, cyclization reaction of the versatile aminothiophene yielded a number of novel thieno[3,2-b][1,4]-thiazine 1,1-dioxides, as well as the analogous thieno[2,3-e][1,3,4]thiadiazine 4,4-dioxide. Reaction of the thienothiazine system with hydrazine was subsequently explored, which resulted in either ring-opening of the thiazine and formation of an aminopyrazole or solely ring cleavage depending on the thiazine substituent. Additionally, the synthesis of bis(2-amino-3-thienyl)sulfone and the corresponding bis-acetamide is described.  相似文献

Matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOFMS) with nonpolar matrices has been investigated for its applicability to the characterization of atmospheric resid crude oil fractions. The data obtained by use of nonpolar matrices was compared with that from polar matrices as well as from direct LDI-MS and field ionization mass spectrometry. Nonpolar matrices, such as anthracene or 9-cyanoanthracene, yield only a single radical molecular cation upon LDI. Thus, no interfering matrix-related ions are present during the MALDI-TOFMS analysis of the crude oil sample. Nonpolar matrices yield molecular mass distributions from linear mode MALDI-TOFMS that are comparable to distributions found with LDI-MS. An advantage of nonpolar matrices is the increased production of analyte ions, which allows reflectron mode MALDI-TOFMS to be performed. Nonpolar matrices are also shown to be less sensitive to solvent and sample preparation conditions than conventional polar matrices. These results suggest that nonpolar matrices may be favorable alternatives to more traditional polar or acidic matrices commonly used in the MALDI mass spectral characterization of crude oil related samples.  相似文献

The syntheses of several new simple negative, a simple positive, and multiple negative photochromes containing the dihydropyrene-cyclophanediene photochromic system are described. The photo-openings of the negative photochromes, the [e]-annelated benzo (7), naphtho (9), anthro (11), furano (19), and triphenyleno (15) derivatives of the parent 2,7-di-tert-butyl-trans-10b,10c-dimethyl-dihydropyrene (5), as well as its 4,5-dibromo derivative (13), are described to give the corresponding cyclophanedienes, as well as their photoclosures and thermal closures back to the dihydropyrenes. These are compared to the results obtained for the positive photochrome dibenzo[e,l]dihydropyrene (21) and to the bis(dihydropyreno)chrysene (44) and the (dihydropyrenobenzo)(benzo)metacyclophanediene (47) photochromes, which have more than one photochromic switch present and thus have more than a simple "on-off" state. Thermodynamic data are obtained for the thermal closing reactions. The anthrodihydropyrene (12) has the fastest thermal closing (tau(1/2) = 20 min), while the furanodihydropyrene (19') has the slowest (tau(1/2) = 63 h) at 46 degrees C. An electrochemical readout of the state of the switch is demonstrated for the benzodihydropyrene (7).  相似文献

Divalent manganese, cobalt, nickel, and zinc complexes of 6-Ph(2)TPA (N,N-bis((6-phenyl-2-pyridyl)methyl)-N-((2-pyridyl)methyl)amine; [(6-Ph(2)TPA)Mn(CH(3)OH)(3)](ClO(4))(2) (1), [(6-Ph(2)TPA)Co(CH(3)CN)](ClO(4))(2) (2), [(6-Ph(2)TPA)Ni(CH(3)CN)(CH(3)OH)](ClO(4))(2) (3), [(6-Ph(2)TPA)Zn(CH(3)CN)](ClO(4))(2) (4)) and 6-(Me(2)Ph)(2)TPA (N,N-bis((6-(3,5-dimethyl)phenyl-2-pyridyl)methyl)-N-((2-pyridyl)methyl)amine; [(6-(Me(2)Ph)(2)TPA)Ni(CH(3)CN)(2)](ClO(4))(2) (5) and [(6-(Me(2)Ph)(2)TPA)Zn(CH(3)CN)](ClO(4))(2) (6)) have been prepared and characterized. X-ray crystallographic characterization of 1A.CH(3)()OH and 1B.2CH(3)()OH (differing solvates of 1), 2.2CH(3)()CN, 3.CH(3)()OH, 4.2CH(3)()CN, and 6.2.5CH(3)()CN revealed mononuclear cations with one to three coordinated solvent molecules. In 1A.CH(3)()OH and 1B.2CH(3)()OH, one phenyl-substituted pyridyl arm is not coordinated and forms a secondary hydrogen-bonding interaction with a manganese bound methanol molecule. In 2.2CH(3)()CN, 3.CH(3)()OH, 4.2CH(3)()CN, and 6.2.5CH(3)()CN, all pyridyl donors of the 6-Ph(2)TPA and 6-(Me(2)Ph)(2)TPA ligands are coordinated to the divalent metal center. In the cobalt, nickel, and zinc derivatives, CH/pi interactions are found between a bound acetonitrile molecule and the aryl appendages of the 6-Ph(2)TPA and 6-(Me(2)Ph)(2)TPA ligands. (1)H NMR spectra of 4 and 6 in CD(3)NO(2) solution indicate the presence of CH/pi interactions, as an upfield-shifted methyl resonance for a bound acetonitrile molecule is present. Examination of the cyclic voltammetry of 1-3 and 5 revealed no oxidative (M(II)/M(III)) couples. Admixture of equimolar amounts of 6-Ph(2)TPA, M(ClO(4))(2).6H(2)O, and Me(4)NOH.5H(2)O, followed by the addition of an equimolar amount of acetohydroxamic acid, yielded the acetohydroxamate complexes [((6-Ph(2)TPA)Mn)(2)(micro-ONHC(O)CH(3))(2)](ClO(4))(2) (8), [(6-Ph(2)TPA)Co(ONHC(O)CH(3))](ClO(4))(2) (9), [(6-Ph(2)TPA)Ni(ONHC(O)CH(3))](ClO(4))(2) (10), and [(6-Ph(2)TPA)Zn(ONHC(O)CH(3))](ClO(4))(2) (11), all of which were characterized by X-ray crystallography. The Mn(II) complex 8.0.75CH(3)()CN.0.75Et(2)()O exhibits a dinuclear structure with bridging hydroxamate ligands, whereas the Co(II), Ni(II), and Zn(II) derivatives all exhibit mononuclear six-coordinate structures with a chelating hydroxamate ligand.  相似文献

This article describes the results of experiments examining the competition between the polymer diffusion rate and the crosslinking rate in low‐glass‐transition‐temperature, epoxy‐containing latex films in the presence of a diamine. We examined films formed from donor‐ and acceptor‐labeled poly(butyl acrylate‐co‐methyl methacrylate‐co‐glycidyl methacrylate) copolymer latex and studied the influence of several parameters on the growth rate of gel content and the rate of polymer diffusion. These factors include the molecular weight of the latex polymer, the presence or absence of a diamine crosslinking agent, and the cure protocol. The results were compared to the predictions of a recent theory of the competition between crosslinking and polymer diffusion across interfaces. In the initially formed films, polymer diffusion occurs more rapidly than the chemical reaction rate. Therefore, these films fall into the fast‐diffusion category of this model. In our system (unlike in the model), the latex polymer has a broad distribution of molecular weights and a distribution of diffusivities. The shortest chains contribute to the early time diffusion that we measure. At later stages of our experiment, slower diffusing species contribute to the signal that we measure. The diffusion time decreases substantially, and we observe a crossover to a regime in which the chemical reaction dominates.
