Improvements of a method for measurement of continuous displacements and deformations with digital phase shifting speckle pattern interferometry are presented. The method is based on an algorithm that, with the knowledge of the initial phase, only needs one image at a time to evaluate continuos phase changes due to object deformations. In the improved method, the initial random phase of the speckle pattern is evaluated using a number of phase-shifted images before the deformation under study. This is used for increasing the accuracy of the initial phase estimation and reducing influences from image noise and other measurement disturbances. The phase-shifted speckle patterns are used as references for comparison with the speckle patterns of the deformed object, thereby increasing the reliability and accuracy of the phase estimations of the deformed patterns. The technique can be used for measuring deformations such as transients and other dynamic events, heat expansion as well as other phenomena where it is difficult to accomplish phase shifting during deformation. 相似文献

The behaviour of a biaxial nematic liquid crystal in the presence of electric and magnetic fields is discussed. In terms of the values of the magnetic susceptibilities and the dielectric permittivities, each biaxial nematic compound can be classified to belong to one of thirty-six different states. These states can be grouped together into three different classes, denoted by us as type A, B and C. The states belonging to each class exhibit a different qualitative behaviour in the presence of perpendicular electric and magnetic fields. While type A biaxial nematics always exhibit the same stable configuration in the presence of the fields, type B and C biaxial nematics exhibit two possible stable equilibrium configurations. Which of these is stable is determined by the magnitudes of the applied fields. The exchange of stability for type B systems can be modelled as a second order transition, while the exchange of stability for type C systems is of first order. In addition, the latter type can develop a bistable behaviour if certain conditions for the magnitudes of the electric and magnetic fields are fulfilled. 相似文献

The plane strain elastic-plastic state at a crack tip is determined for compact tension, bend, double edge-cracked and centre-cracked specimens using a finite element method with triangular constant-strain elements. The solutions are found to differ by 10 to 30 per cent at the ASTM-limit as regards fracture surface displacement, normal stress and plastic zone size. In order to bring the boundary layer solution for the crack problem into agreement with the solution for a specific specimen one has to modify this solution. The modification consists of an addition to the boundary tractions for the boundary layer problem of tractions corresponding to the non-singular, constant second term in a series expansion of the normal stress parallel to the crack plane. 相似文献

Mesoporous materials as support for immobilized enzymes have been explored extensively during the last two decades, primarily not only for biocatalysis applications, but also for biosensing, biofuels and enzyme-controlled drug delivery. The activity of the immobilized enzymes inside the pores is often different compared to that of the free enzymes, and an important challenge is to understand how the immobilization affects the enzymes in order to design immobilization conditions that lead to optimal enzyme activity. This review summarizes methods that can be used to understand how material properties can be linked to changes in enzyme activity. Real-time monitoring of the immobilization process and techniques that demonstrate that the enzymes are located inside the pores is discussed by contrasting them to the common practice of indirectly measuring the depletion of the protein concentration or enzyme activity in the surrounding bulk phase. We propose that pore filling (pore volume fraction occupied by proteins) is the best standard for comparing the amount of immobilized enzymes at the molecular level, and present equations to calculate pore filling from the more commonly reported immobilized mass. Methods to detect changes in enzyme structure upon immobilization and to study the microenvironment inside the pores are discussed in detail. Combining the knowledge generated from these methodologies should aid in rationally designing biocatalyst based on enzymes immobilized in mesoporous materials. 相似文献

We study the compressive behaviour of a polymer-covered surface (i.e., a "polymer brush") using Brownian dynamics simulations. The model consists of grafted chains with variable flexibility, variable intra- and inter-chain interactions, as well as different surface coverage. We discuss the polymer brush response to confinement by considering variable rates of compression under a hard plane. Our results show a small degree of inter-chain entanglement, regardless of whether the interaction is attractive or merely excluded volume. We observe that the molecular shape depends strongly on the surface coverage. Dense brushes exhibit a limited degree of lateral deformation under compression; instead, chains undergo a transition that produces a local patch with near-solid packing. This effect due to surface density can be undone partially by increasing the attractive nature of the chain interaction, by modulating the rate of compression, or by allowing "soft anchoring", i.e., the possible Brownian drift of the grafting bead on the surface. We have also studied the polymer brush relaxation while maintaining the compressing plane, as well as after its sudden removal. We find evidence that also the relaxation depends on surface density; dense brushes appear to be configurationally frustrated at high compression and are unable to undergo swelling, regardless of the pressure applied. 相似文献

We present Brownian dynamics simulations of single grafted semiflexible chains (i.e., "polymer mushrooms") with varying persistence lengths, intra-chain interactions, and subject to confinement. The results from different rates of compression are presented in the cases of an approaching infinite plane and a paraboloid tip. We discuss the different behaviour observed for grafted chains with strong and weak self-attraction (i.e., "hard" and "soft" polymer mushrooms). In both cases the effect on the size and shape is more pronounced for a slow compression rate, especially for "hard mushrooms". We have also studied the relaxation of the chain while the compressing plane is maintained, and when it is removed suddenly. We find that the response depends strongly on the time allowed for relaxation in the compressed state. When using instead a paraboloid tip, the overall effects are similar yet less pronounced because the chain can dodge the confining object via an "escape transition." 相似文献

Recently, direct kinetic experiments have shown that the oxidation of sulfur dioxide to sulfur trioxide by reaction with stabilized Criegee intermediates (CIs) is an important source of sulfuric acid in the atmosphere. So far, only small CIs, generated in photolysis experiments, have been directly detected. Herein, it is shown that large, stabilized CIs can be detected in the gas phase by FTIR spectroscopy during the ozonolysis of β‐pinene. Their transient absorption bands between 930 and 830 cm?1 appear only in the initial phase of the ozonolysis reaction when the scavenging of stabilized CIs by the reaction products is slow. The large CIs react with sulfur dioxide to give sulfur trioxide and nopinone with a yield exceeding 80 %. Reactant consumption and product formation in time‐resolved β‐pinene ozonolysis experiments in the presence of sulfur dioxide have been kinetically modeled. The results suggest a fast reaction of sulfur dioxide with CIs arising from β‐pinene ozonolysis. 相似文献

In this paper, we consider a combined terminal location and ship routing problem at Södra Cell AB. The purpose is to supply the customers' annual demand for pulp products while minimizing the distribution costs. Customers are supplied with various pulp products from pulp mills in Scandinavia by ships, trains, or lorries. The ship routes go from the pulp mills to terminals in Europe. From each terminal, the products are transported to customers by lorry, train, or barge. Some customers can be supplied directly from the pulp mills by trains or lorries. We have developed a mathematical model to select which terminals to use and, at the same time, determine the shipping routes. The mixed integer programming model was solved directly using a commercial solver. When the number of routes generated is large, the time required to obtain an optimal solution is too long. Hence, we have developed heuristics in order to obtain an acceptable solution in reasonable time. In addition to the basic case, five different scenarios were tested. Our heuristics provide solutions that are within 0.12% of the optimal ones. 相似文献

In this paper we consider integrated planning of transportation of raw material, production and distribution of products of the supply chain at Södra Cell AB, a major European pulp mill company. The strategic planning period is one year. Decisions included in the planning are transportation of raw materials from harvest areas to pulp mills, production mix and contents at pulp mills, distribution of pulp products from mills to customer via terminals or directly and selection of potential orders and their levels at customers. Distribution is carried out by three different transportation modes; vessels, trains and trucks. We propose a mathematical model for the entire supply chain which includes a large number of continuous variables and a set of binary variables to reflect decisions about product mix and order selection at customers. Five different alternatives regarding production mix in a case study carried out at Södra Cell are analyzed and evaluated.
