X-ray crystal structure of the copper(II)bis(2,2′-dipyridyl)dithiocarbamate,produced by an unusual reaction of CS2 with Cu−N bonds

The title compound was obtained from a CS₂ solution of bis(2,2-dipyridylamido)copper(II), by insertion of solvent into this complex. In the structure of the dithiocarbamate the metal atom is approximately square-planar coordinated by four S atoms from two chelating ligands. Considering the long interactions between the metal center and the S(2) atom from a centrosymmetrically related complex [Cu(1)...S(2)=3.230 Å], double bridged dimers are formed with the copper atoms in an elongated square-pyramidal coordination. The crystals are monoclinic, space groupP2 ₁/n witha=14.549(3),b=11.662(3)c=15.329(4) Å and =114.79(2)°.     

The reaction of di-2-pyridyl ketone with antimony(III) fluoride. Preparation and crystal structure of difluoro (hydroxodi-2-pyridylmethoxo-NN′O)antimony(III)

The synthesis and the crystal and molecular structure of the difluoro(hydroxodi-2-pyridylmethoxo-NNO) antimony(III) compound determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis are reported. Crystals are orthorhombic, space group Pbcn,a=12.732(2),b=12.165(2),c=15.936(2) Å. Refinement based on 1516 observed reflections led to a finalR value of 0.025 (Rw=0.028). In the crystal the di-2-pyridyl ketone behaves asfacial-(NNO)-terdentate in the Sb coordination, the square pyramid geometry around the metal is completed by the coordination of two fluorine atoms.

Anomalous long-range propagation of femtosecond laser pulses through air: moving focus or pulse self-guiding?

Self-guided propagation of femtosecond laser pulses is studied for a converging-beam configuration. Channeling of the pulse energy through various gases is observed over distances well beyond the lens focal point, a fact that cannot be explained by the moving-focus model. The results are in good agreement with three-dimensional numerical simulations.

Expectation of intrinsic volumes of random polytopes

Let K be a convex body in ℝ ^d , let j ∈ {1, …, d−1}, and let K(n) be the convex hull of n points chosen randomly, independently and uniformly from K. If ∂K is C ₊², then an asymptotic formula is known due to M. Reitzner (and due to I. Bárány if ∂K is C ₊³) for the difference of the jth intrinsic volume of K and the expectation of the jth intrinsic volume of K(n). We extend this formula to the case when the only condition on K is that a ball rolls freely inside K.
