HPLC with amperometric detection for the determination of pesticides of high polarity

A relatively simple procedure is described for the selective and highly sensitive determination of amitrole (3-amino-1,2,4-triazole) by ionpair HPLC with amperometric detection. The separation was achieved on a polar CN-column using hexane, propanol, water (62:36:2) with LiClO₄ (2.5 g·l^–1) and trichloroacetic acid (2 g·l^–1) as electrolytes. The determination range lies between 500 pg and 500 ng and the limit of detection was found to be 200 pg (s.d.: 11%; N=9). The minimum detectability for the alternative UV-monitoring was 2.5 ng. The developed method may be helpful in production and quality control and for the selective determination of amitrole in commercial formulations.     

Resonance ionization spectroscopy for trace analysis and fundamental research

Resonance ionization spectroscopy (RIS) and its combination with mass spectrometry (RIMS) have grown to become powerful techniques, which offer high sensitivity as well as elemental and isotopic selectivity. The principles of RIS and RIMS are introduced; they primarily concern the analysis of the optical spectra for the choice of efficient excitation schemes and the suitable design of the experimental apparatus. Recent applications span from studies of short-lived isotopes at on-line mass separators to a wide variety of trace analysis applications for radioactive isotopes, which can range from measurements of solar neutrino flux to environmental assessment.On leave from Pacific Northwest Laboratory, Richland, USA     

Calibration of depth profiles of microparticles measured with plasma-based secondary neutral mass spectrometry

A gravimetric method is presented for the easy determination of sputter erosion rates for powders, applicable also to non-conducting materials. Measurements of the erosion rates of 22 powders gave an average value of 0.4 nm/s ±50% for bombardment with 400 eV Ar⁺ at 1 mA/cm². The validity of the data has been demonstrated with technical pigments and outdoor aerosol particles.     

ARXPS-analysis and morphology of sputtered nanocrystalline TiC/SiC coatings

ARXPS (angle resolved X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy) measurements are used to obtain informations about surfaces and grain boundaries. Data acquired from nanocrystalline carbidic hard coatings have been employed to establish structural models. Magnetron-sputtered coatings of TiC, SiC and TiC/SiC were examined. In such coatings, partly defective TiC nanocrystallites are surrounded by interfacial carbide. This excess carbon shows a binding state similar to that of doped graphite or fullerenes. X-ray amorphous SiC is found in the residue. On top of sputtered SiC coatings, less oxide and graphite is found as compared to TiC/SiC or TiC coatings.

Thermoelectric properties of tin clathrates under hydrostatic pressure

We report the temperature dependence of electrical resistance (R) and thermopower (S) of clathrate Cs₈Sn₄₄ under high pressure up to 1.2 GPa. We observe a reversible gap widening, prominent relaxation effect of R, irreversible increase of |S| under high pressure. We also find that the power factor S²σ (σ: electrical conductivity) reaches a maximum at pressure of 0.3 GPa. Comparison of the experimental results with band structure calculations suggests that the intrinsic vacancy in the clathrate structure of Cs₈Sn₄₄ plays an important role in transport properties under high pressure. Measurements on Cs₈Zn₄Sn₄₂, a clathrate which has defects other than vacancies, are compared with Cs₈Sn₄₄. The results indicate that replacing Sn by Zn has similar effect as the intrinsic vacancy on S.     

Spin-relaxation and magnetoresistance in FM/SC/FM tunnel junctions

The effect of spin relaxation on tunnel magnetoresistance (TMR) in a ferromagnet/superconductor/ferromagnet (FM/SC/FM) double tunnel junction is theoretically studied. The spin accumulation in SC is determined by balancing of the spin-injection rate and the spin-relaxation rate. In the superconducting state, the spin-relaxation time τ_s becomes longer with decreasing temperature, resulting in a rapid increase of TMR. The TMR of FM/SC/FM junctions provides a useful probe to extract information about spin-relaxation in superconductors.     

Multivalued differential equations on closed convex sets in Banach spaces

New derivation results for integrands and multifunctions via the Lipschitzean approximations are obtained. Applications to multivalued differential equations on closed convex sets are presented.     

受激喇曼散射在掺铒光纤放大器中的影响

本文在分析了均匀掺杂分布式光纤放大器（d－EDFA）的基础上，提出了沿传输方向掺杂浓度单调下降（单变），和降升结合（两变）的两种渐变型分布式光纤放大器，并用传输方程研究了透明传输和最佳掺杂浓度下，受激喇曼散射对均匀、单变和两变型三种d－EDFA的各种特性的影响．

将像散光束的复光线表示法用于分析非轴对称腔，并对有复杂像散的折迭腔作了数值迭代计算以说明方法的应用．
