Renal preservation at for 24 hours at hypothermia was studied in a rabbit model after flush cooling with sucrose-based solution (SBS), compared with a standard preservation solution (in this case, Marshall's Hypertonic Citrate solution - HCA). Polyethylene glycol supplementation to SBS (SBS-PEG) was also investigated. Renal function was measured by plasma creatinine assays during 1 months post transplantation, and pathology of the explanted kidneys was undertaken. Results showed that survival at 28 days was similar in all groups, (HCA - 3 out of 6; SBS - 2 out of 5; SBS-PEG - 3 out of 5), and there were no differences in recovery of plasma creatinine values. Histopathological evaluation of the grafts indicated that SBS preservation resulted in more severe damage after transplantation (P less than 0.05 in both corticomedullary region and medulla compared to HCA), whilst addition of PEG reduced the damage score to that seen with HCA. SBS can be used as a simple, inexpensive preservation solution for kidney cold storage provided that PEG is used as an additional colloid.  相似文献

This paper presents experimental results on the use of spectroscopic optical polarimetry to study structure in dense systems of rigid particles and rigid polymer liquid crystals. These measurements probe microstructural anisotropy induced by the application of electric fields in the case of dense suspensions of rigid spheres, or flow fields in the case of polymer liquid crystals. It is demonstrated that conservative linear dichroism can measure moments of the particle pair distribution function in dense suspensions. In liquid crystals, the dichroism is a result of field-induced anisotropy in the defect structure of the material.  相似文献

A mathematical generalization of the concept of quantum spin is constructed in which the role of the symmetry groupO 3 is replaced byO v (=2,3,4, ...). The notion of spin direction is replaced by a point on the manifold of oriented planes in v . The theory of coherent states is developed, and it is shown that the natural generalizations of Lieb's formulae connecting quantum spins and classical configuration space hold true. This leads to the Lieb inequalities [1] and with it to the limit theorems as the quantum spinl approaches infinity. The critical step in the proofs is the validity of the appropriate generalization of the Wigner-Eckart theorem.This paper is based largely on the Indiana University Ph. Cold preservation of endothelial cells was studied, comparing primary endothelial cells (human umbilical vein endothelial cells - HUVECs) and a continuously growing cell line (ECV304 cells). Viability at the end of 24h cold preservation was measured by dye exclusion, whilst metabolism was assessed by Alamar blue conversion. Two preservation solutions were studied (UW solution) and sucrose-based (SbS) in both cell types. The response was similar in both cell types to preservation under normoxic conditions (with percentage dye exclusion maintained at about 80 percent in both preservation solutions) whereas under hypoxic conditions ECV304 were more sensitive to preservation in UW solution (dye exclusion reduced to 43.5+/-1.4 percent versus 73.6+/-14 percent (P<0.01). Metabolism assessed by Alamar blue conversion after cold preservation and rewarming was similar in both ECV304 and HUVECs after storage under normoxic conditions in UW solution, but in both cell types, metabolism was higher in SbS (P<0.05 and p<0.01) than in UW solution. Under hypoxic conditions, both cell types showed similar recovery of metabolism after storage in either UW or SbS. If the cells (in this case ECV304 under aerobic conditions) were stored for 24h and then allowed to rewarm in either of the respective preservation solutions (UW or SbS for 1h) before the Alamar blue test, metabolism was higher (p less than 0.01) in those exposed to SbS. UW solution and SbS provide similar protection for endothelial cells under hypoxic conditions, but SbS has some advantages under normoxic storage or if the cells experience variable temperatures in the presence of residual preservation solution at the end of cold preservation period.  相似文献

We point out that the baryon loading problem in gamma-ray burst (GRB) models can be ameliorated if a significant fraction of the baryons which inertially confine the fireball is converted to neutrons. A high neutron fraction can result in a reduced transfer of energy from relativistic light particles in the fireball to baryons. The energy needed to produce the required relativistic flow in the GRB is consequently reduced, in some cases by orders of magnitude. A high neutron-to-proton ratio has been calculated in neutron star-merger fireball environments. Significant neutron excess also could occur near compact objects with high neutrino fluxes.  相似文献

In standard coercivity theory, formulae derived for homogeneous material are applied to inhomogeneous situations. The model considered here contains inherent inhomogeneity in the form of competing volume and surface anisotropies. Pressure broadening and shift coefficients for the ν13 band of 12C2H2 have been measured for He, Ne, and Ar at a temperature of 195 K using high resolution diode laser spectroscopy. The pressure broadening and shifts follow patterns with rotational assignment that are similar to those at room temperature but are generally larger in magnitude. The change in magnitude is qualitatively described by assuming, for each transition, a constant cross section for pressure broadening or shifting. Better agreement may be obtained for pressure broadening coefficients by using empirically determined temperature exponents; better agreement still is obtained from close coupling calculations of the pressure broadening cross sections. Development characteristics of dilute cationic surfactant solution flow have been studied through the measurements of the time characteristics of surfactant solution by birefringence experiments and of the streamwise mean velocity profiles of surfactant solution duct flow by a laser Doppler velocimetry system. For both experiments, the concentration of cationic surfactant (oleylbishydroxymethylethylammonium chloride: Ethoquad O/12) was kept constant at 1000 ppm and the molar ratio of the counter ion of sodium salicylate to the surfactants was at 1.5. From the birefringence experiments, dilute surfactant solution shows very long retardation time corresponding to micellar shear induced structure formation. This causes very slow flow development of surfactant solution in a duct. Even at the end of the test section with the distance of 112 times of hydraulic diameter form the inlet, the flow is not fully developed but still has the developing boundary layer characteristics on the duct wall.
