The axial and transverse Young's modulus and thermal conductivity of gel and single crystal mat polyethylene with draw ratios λ = 1–350 have been measured from 160 to 360 K. The axial Young's modulus increases sharply with increasing λ, whereas the transverse modulus shows a slight decrease. The thermal conductivity exhibits a similar behavior. At λ = 350, the axial Young's modulus and thermal conductivity are, respectively, 20% and three times higher than those of steel. For this ultradrawn material both the magnitude and the temperature dependence of the axial Young's modulus are close to those of polyethylene crystal. The high values of the axial Young's modulus and thermal conductivity arise from the presence of a large percentage (∼85%) of long needle crystals. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. This paper focuses on the estimation of some models in finance and in particular, in interest rates. We analyse discretized versions of the constant elasticity of variance (CEV) models where the normal law showing up in the usual discretization of the diffusion part is replaced by a range of heavy‐tailed distributions. A further extension of the model is to allow the elasticity of variance to be a parameter itself. This generalized model allows great flexibility in modelling and simplifies the model implementation considerably using the scale mixtures representation. The mixing parameters provide a means to identify possible outliers and protect inference by down‐weighting the distorting effects of these outliers. For parameter estimation, Bayesian approach is adopted and implemented using the software WinBUGS (Bayesian inference using Gibbs sampler). Results from a real data analysis show that an exponential power distribution with a random shape parameter, which is highly leptokurtic compared with the normal distribution, forms the best CEV model for the data. The thermal expensivities of polyoxymethylene crystals in the direction parallel (α|c) and perpendicular (α‖c) to the chain axis have been measured from 160 to 400 K using wide-angle x-ray diffraction. Although polyoxymethylene has a helical chain structure, it exhibits a thermal expansion behavior similar to that of polymer crystals with planar zigzag chains, namely that α‖c is negative while α|c is positive and larger by an order of magnitude. The negative α‖c arises from the shortening along the chain axis caused by the torsional and bending motions of the chain, whereas the large and positive α|c reflects the weak interaction across the chains. Combining the crystal data with dilatometric measurements on semicrystalline samples, the thermal expansivity is found to vary linearly with crystallinity, thus allowing the expansivity of the amorphous phase to be derived by extrapolation. With the thermal expansivities of the crystalline and smorphous phases known, the draw ratio dependence can be calculated in terms of existing models and is found to agree reasonably with experimental data. 相似文献

Proton spin-spin relaxation times have been measured as a function of temperature for ultradrawn polypropylene with draw ratios λ up to 24. The three relaxation times T2a (the longest), T2i (intermediate), and T2c (the shortest), observed for all the samples, have been ascribed to the relaxations of the amorphous, constrained amorphous, and crystalline components, respectively. T2i and T2a, which reflect the changes in structure and mobility in the noncrystalline regions, decrease with increasing λ; T2i becomes saturated at λ > 9, whereas T2a shows a substantial decrease up to λ = 24. The continued decrease in T2a indicates that the constraint on the amorphous segments keeps increasing up to the highest λ. The associated mass fractions Fa, Fi, and Fc also change with λ. At λ < 9, the increasc in Fi with increasing λ is accompanied by a decrease in Fa, with Fc remaining unchanged. At higher λ, however, Fa is almost constant, and stepwise rises in Fc at about λ = 12 and 24 are accompanied by corresponding drops in Fi. It seems that, in this high draw ratio range, some of the taut molecules are fully extended and are in sufficiently good lateral register to transform into crystalline bridges. This conjecture is supported by the similarity in the λ dependence of Fc and the mass-fraction crystallinity obtained from the heat of fusion. 相似文献

Tomography of injection and acceleration of monoenergetic electrons in a laser-wakefield accelerator

A tomographic diagnosis method was developed to systematically resolve the injection and acceleration processes of a monoenergetic electron beam in a laser-wakefield accelerator. It was found that all the monoenergetic electrons are injected at the same location in the plasma column and accelerated from 5 to 55 MeV energy in 200 microm distance. This is a direct measurement of the real acceleration gradient in a laser-wakefield accelerator, and the experimental data are consistent with the model of transverse wave breaking and beam loading for monoenergetic electron injection. 相似文献

Well-crystallized and stoichiometric Pb(Zr, Ti)O3 (PZT) films, typically ∼5 μm thick, with pure perovskite-type rhombohedral structures have been successfully prepared via an electrospray assisted vapour deposition (ESAVD) method. Control of the deposition temperature within a narrow range of 300-400 °C resulted in films with the most desirable phases. PZT films with close stoichiometric match with the expected composition ratio and uniform element distribution were obtained by adding the appropriate levels of excess Pb in the precursor solutions. The annealed films were uniform, dense, compact and adherent to the substrates. The dielectric constant, ?r, and loss tangent, tan δ, of the fabricated PZT films measured at 10 kHz were 442 and 0.09, respectively. The ESAVD deposited PZT films showed a remanent polarization, Pr, of 15.3 μC/cm2 and coercive field, Ec, of 86.7 kV/cm. These results demonstrate the clear potential of the ESAVD method as a promising technique for the fabrication of thick PZT films. 相似文献

This study attempts to develop a supplier's risk sharing contract to gain an understanding of risk sharing for the automotive industry in Taiwan. The existing research has examined revenue-sharing contracts between retailers and manufacturers. However, the study of suppliers’ risk-sharing contracts between manufacturers and suppliers is neglected. This paper first employs a double moral hazard framework to obtain an optimal contract, and then uses the derived model to establish research hypotheses. The empirical analysis shows that manufacturers offer suppliers a type of supplier's risk sharing contract while maintaining long-term relationships with suppliers. The results also support the hypotheses that manufacturers absorb more risk when the suppliers are more uncertainty, more risk aversion and lower moral hazard, and suggest that manufacturers would be willing to absorb more risk as they deepen their involvement in the technological development of suppliers. 相似文献

The surface of poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) is grafted with poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) layers via surface‐initiated photopolymerization to suppress the capsular contracture resulting from a foreign body reaction. Owing to the nature of photo‐induced polymerization, various PAA micropatterns can be fabricated using photolithography. Hole and stripe micropatterns ≈100‐µm wide and 3‐µm thick are grafted onto the PDMS surface without delamination. The incorporation of PAA micropatterns provides not only chemical cues by hydrophilic PAA microdomains but also topographical cues by hole or stripe micropatterns. In vitro studies reveal that a PAA‐grafted PDMS surface has a lower proliferation of both macrophages (Raw 264.7) and fibroblasts (NIH 3T3) regardless of the pattern presence. However, PDMS with PAA micropatterns, especially stripe micropatterns, minimizes the aggregation of fibroblasts and their subsequent differentiation into myofibroblasts. An in vivo study also shows that PDMS samples with stripe micropatterns polarized macrophages into anti‐inflammatory M2 macrophages and most effectively inhibits capsular contracture, which is demonstrated by investigation of inflammation score, transforming‐growth‐factor‐β expression, number of macrophages, and myofibroblasts as well as the collagen density and capsule thickness. 相似文献
