Coherent production ofρ − mesons in charged current antineutrino-neon interactions in BEBC

Coherent production ofρ ^? mesons in charged current antineutrino interactions on neon nuclei is studied in the BEBC bubble chamber exposed to the CERN SPS wide band beam. The cross section is measured to be (95±25)·10^?40 cm² per neon nucleus, averaged over the beam energy spectrum. The distributions of kinematical variables and the absolute value of the cross section are in agreement with theoretical predictions based on the CVC hypothesis and the vector meson dominance model.     

Evidence for higher twist effects in fast π− production by antineutrinos in neon

Evidence for a significant higher twist contribution to highz π^? production in antineutrino scattering is presented. In events withW>3 GeV andQ ²>1 GeV² in our data, it accounts for (51 ±8)% of all π^? withz above 0.5. It is consistent with thez?Q ² correlations of Berger's higher twist prediction. The data are inconclusive concerning the predictedy?z correlation andp _T dependence. Thez ?Q ² correlation is not adequately described by the Lund Monte-Carlo.     

7-Amino-5-imino-8(5H)-quinolones, 6-Amino-8-imino-5(8H)-quinolones and 7-Alkyl-4,6-dihydroxy-5,8-quinolinediones as potential antiprotozoal agents

Oxidation of 7-amino-8-hydroxyquinoline-5-sulfonic acid with silver oxide in dimethylformamide and in the presence of arylamines provided a series of 7-amino-5-arylimino-8(5H)-quinolones (VIIIb). Reaction of 8-dialkylamino-5,6-quinolinediones with triethyloxonium tetrafluoborate gave a series of unstable but synthetically useful enol ethers. These reacted with amines to give 6-amino-8-imino-5(8H)-quinolones, isolated and characterized as tetrafluoborate salts (XIa). Proton magnetic resonance studies showed these to be vinylogous amidinium salts, analogous to those previously obtained with 2-amino-1,4-naphthoquinone imines. 4,6-Dihydroxy-5,8-quinolinedione underwent free radical alkylation to give a 7-alkyl-4,6-dihydroxy-5,8-quinolinedione. Evaluation of the new compounds against various Plasmodium species in rodents, birds and mosquitoes revealed no significant antimalarial activity.     

Determination of zinc in plant materials using ion-exchange chromatography

The objective of this investigation was to develop a rapid and accurate method for the determination of zinc in plant materials. An ion-exchange separation technique to eliminate interferences in the Zincon procedure for zinc is described. Comparison with the A.O.A.C. method and evaluation of zinc recovery studies show the proposed method to be satisfactory for the analysis of microgram amounts of zinc in plant materials.     

Guest-accelerated molecular rotor

A molecular rotor was designed in which the rate of rotation is accelerated by guest complexation. The binding of an acetate guest to the urea groups lowers the barrier of the adjacent C(aryl)-N(imide) bond by 2 to 4 kcal/mol. This behavior is in contrast to most molecular rotors in which guest complexation slows rotation.     

Production of charmed hadrons in neutrino proton and antineutrino proton charged current interactions

Usind data from avp and \(\bar v\) p experiment with BEBC at CERN, the rates for inclusive production ofD ^*+,Λ _c ⁺ andD ⁰ invp scattering and ofD ^*? in \(\bar v\) p scattering are measured. Some examples of the exclusive production ofD ^*+,Λ _c ⁺ and∑ _c ⁺⁺ are given. The cross section for the reactionvp→μ ^? _c ⁺⁺ is estimated.
