The effect of plastic deformation on the chain dimensions of polymers in the semicrystalline state was investigated using linear hydrogenated polybutadiene (HPB), a model ethylene/butene-1 copolymer having about 40% crystallinity at room temperature. Dilute blends of deuterium-labeled chains with various molecular weights (20,000 ≤ M ≤ 214,000) in the same unlabeled matrix (M = 95,000) were uniaxially stretched at 25°C to extension ratios of α = 2.4 and 4.4. Radius of gyration normal to the stretch direction R was measured for the labeled chains by small-angle neutron scattering. The molecular extension ratio inferred from these data αm = R/R was significantly smaller than α for short chains (M < 50,000) but increased to the affine range αm = α for M > 100,000. This variation in αm/α closely parallels the molecular weight dependence of mechanical strength and ductility in HPB over the same range.  相似文献

The paper extends an earlier study of the far infrared properties of a series of evaporated amorphous GeGa alloys. The results of temperature dependent dc resistivity and near infrared and visible optical experiments are presented. Since the properties of amorphous films are dependent on the preparation conditions, a technique has been developed in which four samples of varying composition are prepared in the same evaporation. The far infrared data indicate that a significant fraction of Ga atoms dissolve in a-Ge with four-fold coordination. However, there is also indirect evidence of mixed valence.  相似文献

Determining the spin of new particles is critical in identifying the true theory among various extensions of the Standard Model at the next generation of colliders. Quantum interference between different helicity amplitudes was shown to be effective when the final state is fully reconstructible. However, many interesting new physics processes allow only for partial reconstruction. In this Letter, we show how the interference effect can be unambiguously extracted even in processes that have two-fold ambiguity, by considering the correlation between two decay planes in e+ee+e collisions.  相似文献

This work reports on dyeing of nylon/elastane fabric with water-soluble phthalocyanines ( 1-4 ) bearing quinoline 5-sulfonic acid substituents on the peripheral or nonperipheral positions and determining the antibacterial efficiency of the phthalocyanine compounds and the dyed nylon/elastane fabrics. The light, washing, water, perspiration, and rubbing fastness properties of nylon/elastane fabrics dyed with phthalocyanines were also determined. The results showed that all dyed fabrics showed very good wet fastness values. The lightfastness value of the nylon/elastane fabric dyed with phthalocyanine dye ( 1 ) showed a much better value than the others. Also, the antibacterial efficiencies of the dyed nylon fabrics and the dye compounds were investigated against a gram-negative ( Escherichia coli ) and a grampositive ( Staphylococcus aureus ) bacteria by using disc diffusion method. The results showed that the dyed nylon/elastane fabrics and the compounds exhibited antibacterial activities against both bacteria.  相似文献

Tea is rich in polyphenols and has a variety of biological activities. In order to better understand the biological effects of tea constituents on human health, markers for their exposure and their metabolic fates are needed. Previously, we have characterized several catechin metabolites in the blood and urine, but more information on the metabolite profile of tea polyphenols is needed. In the present study, the human urinary metabolite profile of tea polyphenols was investigated using liquid chromatography/electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry with data-dependent acquisition. With data-dependent MS/MS analysis by collecting the MS2 and MS3 spectra of the most intense ions in the sample, we identified more than twenty metabolites of tea polyphenols from human urine samples. (-)-Epigallocatechin (EGC) glucuronide, methylated EGC glucuronide, methylated EGC sulfate, (-)-epicatechin (EC) glucruronide, EC sulfate, methylated EC sulfate, as well as the glucuronide and sulfate metabolites of the ring-fission metabolites of tea catechins, 5-(3',4',5'-trihydroxyphenyl)-gamma-valerolactone (M4), 5-(3',4'-dihydroxyphenyl)-gamma-valerolactone (M6) and 5-(3',5'-dihydroxyphenyl)-gamma-valerolactone (M6'), were the major human urinary metabolites of tea polyphenols. To our knowledge, this is the first report of the direct simultaneous analysis of the human urinary metabolite profile of tea polyphenols using single sample analysis. This method can also be used for thorough investigations of the metabolite profiles of many other dietary constituents.  相似文献

The constitutive responses of three glassy thermoset polymers at impact rates of strain and slower, together with measurements of adiabatic heating, were reported earlier by the authors. The results are interpreted here in the context of a constitutive model proposed previously for amorphous polymers, expanded to incorporate strain-softening and the adiabatic heating deficit. In terms of the model, both features are a natural consequence of strain-induced evolution of the glass structure, as represented by Tool's “fictive temperature”—the phenomenon of structural rejuvenation. A representation is proposed for the evolution of fictive temperature with plastic strain, motivated by an approximate treatment of the kinetics of physical ageing/rejuvenation. Formulated in this manner, the model agrees reasonably well with experimental results across the wide range of strain rates of the previous experiments, 10−3 to , and across most of the range of strain to failure in compression. At the highest strains, however, an additional adiabatic heating deficit appears that is not predicted by the model, either suggesting the onset of structural breakdown possibly associated with the appearance of cracks or reflecting a need for better physical understanding of large deformations in glassy polymers.  相似文献
