The line shape of the Auger decay of adatoms is studied by a joint theoretical and experimental effort, the former within a DFT framework, and the latter with synchrotron radiation measurements. We investigate the KL(2,3)V Auger deexcitation of Na on Al(111), a system with different adsorption geometries. In particular, we study the (sqrt[3]xsqrt[3])R30 degrees phase at 1/3 ML (monolayer) and the more complex (2 x 2) structure at 1/2 ML coverage. From the comparison between theory and experiment, we unambiguously determine features that allow for the determination of the adsorption environment from the adatom Auger spectrum.  相似文献

An investigation of the anisotropic permeability of a carbon cloth gas diffusion layer (GDL) based on the integration of X‐ray micro‐tomography and lattice Boltzmann (LB) simulation is presented. The method involves the generation of a 3D digital model of a carbon cloth GDL as manufactured using X‐ray shadow images acquired through X‐ray micro‐tomography at a resolution of 1.74 µm. The resulting 3D model is then split into 21 volumes and integrated with a LB single‐phase numerical solver in order to predict three orthogonal permeability tensors when a pressure difference is prescribed in the through‐plane direction. The 21 regions exhibit porosity values in the range of 0.910–0.955, while the average fibre diameter is 4 µm. The results demonstrate that the simulated through‐plane permeability is about four times higher than the in‐plane permeability for the sample imaged and that the corresponding degrees of anisotropy for the two orthogonal off‐principal directions are 0.22 and 0.27. The results reveal that flow channelling can play an important role in gas transport through the GDL structure due to the non‐homogeneous porosity distribution through the material. The simulated results are also applied to generate a parametric coefficient for the Kozeny–Carman (KC) method of determining permeability. The current research reveals that by applying the X‐ray tomography and LB techniques in a complementary manner, there is a strong potential to gain a deeper understanding of the microscopic fluidic phenomenon in representative models of porous fuel cell structures and how this can influence macroscopic transport characteristics which govern fuel cell performance. The basic formulae of four different quantum mechanical approaches to the calculation of the sticking coefficient of an atom on a cold solid are re-examined in order to discuss the connections between them. All approaches pursued exactly give the same result, and this is exhibited for a one-dimensional model which is exactly solvable to provide closed-form formulae for the sticking coefficient. Numerical results, which reproduce the qualitative behaviour of atomic sticking, are presented for different assumed densities of substrate excitations responsible for the energy loss, including the physically important cases of low-energy single phonons, and low-energy electron-hole pairs in a metal.  相似文献

While the structures of Brønsted acid sites (BAS) in zeolites are well understood, those of Lewis acid sites (LAS) remain an active area of investigation. Under hydrated conditions, the reversible formation of framework-associated octahedral aluminum has been observed in zeolites in the acidic form. However, the structure and formation mechanisms are currently unknown. In this work, combined experimental 27Al NMR spectroscopy and computational data reveal for the first time the details of the zeolite framework-associated octahedral aluminium. The octahedral LAS site becomes kinetically allowed and thermodynamically stable under wet conditions in the presence of multiple nearby BAS sites. The critical condition for the existence of such octahedral LAS appears to be the availability of three protons: at lower proton concentration, either by increasing the Si/Al or by ion-exchange to non-acidic form, the tetrahedral BAS becomes thermodynamically more stable. This work resolves the question about the nature and reversibility of framework-associated octahedral aluminium in zeolites.  相似文献

Vibrational spectra of polyatomic molecules are often obtained from a polynomial expansion of the adiabatic potential around a minimum. For several molecules, we show that such an approximation displays an unphysical saddle point of comparatively small energy, leading to a region where the potential is negative and unbounded. This poses an upper limit for a reliable evaluation of vibrational levels. We argue that the presence of such saddle points is general.  相似文献

Resonant Raman Scattering spectra of trans polyace-tylene (CH)X and (CD)X are interpreted in terms of a model based on a bimodal distribution of conjugation length segments. Such a theory takes into account the electronic and lattice dynamics properties of different conjugation length segments, together with the electronic dipole moments from the transitions and the electron vibration interactions in the excited electronic states. This model accounts also for the Resonant Raman Scattering spectra taken during the isomerization process and from cis rich samples.  相似文献

The symmetry of the optical outputs of a semiconductor laser diode having front and rear facets with equal reflectivity is destroyed by the injection of a reflected signal, even of weak intensity, from one side: this asymmetry must be taken into account when designing laser packages and integrated circuits. A systematic experimental investigation is presented.
