Two-photon absorption by rotating diatomic molecules

Explicit forms for the two-photon absorption cross section in linearly and circularly polarized light for rotating diatomic molecules have been developed. The ratio (σλλ/σ _cc ) of the cross sections for individual rotational transitions is precisely two-thirds for all branches of ΔΩ = 0, ±1, ±2 transitions except for the unique case—the Q branch of a ΔΩ=0 transition. In the latter case the ratio becomes J-dependent and may range from infinity to 4/1 (for high J) for different relative contributions to the absorption cross section of intermediate states having either the same or different electronic symmetry. These contributions are thus experimentally accessible in this favourable situation.     

New bis‐Pyrazole Derivatives Synthesized From Aryl‐ and Xylyl‐Linked bis(β‐Diketone) Precursors

The synthesis and characterization of six new aryl‐linked, and in one instance xylyl‐linked, bis‐pyrazoles are reported. The X‐ray structures of two of these derivatives are also presented.     

Growth properties of Fourier transforms via moduli of continuity

We obtain new inequalities for the Fourier transform, both on Euclidean space, and on non-compact, rank one symmetric spaces. In both cases these are expressed as a gauge on the size of the transform in terms of a suitable integral modulus of continuity of the function. In all settings, the results present a natural corollary: a quantitative form of the Riemann-Lebesgue lemma. A prototype is given in one-dimensional Fourier analysis.
