Röntgenoluminescence of uranium in alkali-alumino-phosphate glasses

The fluorescence (FL) and the röntgenoluminescence (RL) spectra of the green alkali-aluminophosphate glasses doped with uranium have been measured. It is shown that both the FL and RL are due to uranyl groups. The radiative transitions are ascribed to³II_{1u g} ⁺ .The authors wish to thank Mrs. J. Janotová for her assistance in the RL-measurements and Mr. J. Polecha for performing the corrections of the RL spectrum.     

Decomposition of broad absorption band at about 3·2 μm in multicomponent aluminophosphate glasses

The decomposition of the broad absorption band at about 3·2 m in multicomponent aluminiumphosphate glasses was made using a computer Tesla 200. The results show that the band is composed of at least three bands. It is suggested that the two side bands are due to the stretching vibrations of the residual water molecules in the glass and only the middle band belongs to the protons.

On the theory of chemielectron emission of metals

The most frequently quoted theories of chemiemission (chemically excited exoelectron emission) — the adsorption and oxidation theories — are compared in the present paper with the hitherto less known Izmailov-Furman theory of potential secondary emission. The values of yields calculated according to the original or adapted Izmailov-Furman theory are compared with the values of yields measured by Geiger on a series of systems of alkaline metal-halogen molecules (also partly oxygen molecules) and by Lohff and Wüstenhagen on systems of certain non-precious metals (Al, Fe) with oxygen or nitrogen molecules.We should like to express our thanks to Dr. J.
