State of Atoms and Interatomic Interactions in Complex Perovskite-Like Oxides: XIV.1 Interatomic Interactions and Local Environment of Paramagnetic Atoms in Complex Cuprates by Müossbauer Spectroscopy

The Müossbauer study of strontium- and barium-containing solid solutions on the basis of superconducting cuprates, including 57Fe as Müossbauer probe, allowed estimation of the size of nanoclusters formed by paramagnetic atoms.     

The Effect of Biocompatible Coating Layers on Magnetic Properties of Superparamagnetic Iron Oxide Nanoparticles

The g-factor of the exteremely proton-rich nucleus ²³Al(T _{1 / 2} = 0.47 s) has been measured for the first time, applying β-NMR technique on this nucleus implanted in Si. The obtained ∣g∣ = (1.58 ± 0.2) suggests that the spin of the ground state of ²³Al is 5 / 2. The magnetic moment is determined as ∣μ∣ = (3.95 ± 0.55) μ _N .     

Character of ordering of nickel atoms in Li<Emphasis Type="Italic">M</Emphasis>O<Subscript>2</Subscript>

The state of nickel atoms in the solid solutions based on LiScO₂ and LiGaO₂ has been investigated. It is established that the anomalies of magnetic characteristics can be explained by only the presence of stable clusters, containing Ni(III) atoms in two (high and low) spin states. The cluster stability is independent of the crystallographic environment of the nickel atoms replacing the scandium and gallium ones.

Features of interfaces in layered La<Subscript>2 − <Emphasis Type="Italic">x</Emphasis></Subscript>Sr<Subscript><Emphasis Type="Italic">x</Emphasis></Subscript>CoO<Subscript>4</Subscript> oxides: Products of solid-state synthesis

The interfaces in complex La_{2 − x} Sr _x CoO₄ oxides (0.1 < x < 1.5) obtained by the ceramic method were studied in detail. To determine the chemical composition of the interfaces and their effect on the properties of ceramics, the magnetic and electric properties were investigated and X-ray phase and micro X-ray analyses were performed. It was found that the mechanical stability of the samples is determined by the presence of lanthanum in the surface layer.     

Quantum beats in excitons in Cu2O

A theoretical study is carried out of quantum beats (QB) in the time-dependent intensities of absorption of a test pulse and of spontaneous luminescence in a Cu₂O crystal under conditions of double optical resonance. It is assumed that pumping is effected by a CO₂-laser pulse which dynamically couples the exciton levels 1s(Γ ₅ ⁺ ) and 2p(Γ ₄ ⁻ ,Γ ₅ ⁻ ,Γ ₃ ⁻ Γ ₂ ⁻ ) and splits them into two or three pairs of quasi-energy levels. The frequency of the test pulse is in resonance with the frequency Γ ₅ ⁺ of the exciton. The corresponding intensities for various directions of the electric vector of the pump field E _L, the polarization vector ξ, and the wave vector q of the test pulse are obtained. The frequency of the quantum beats is twice the Rabi frequency, which for different values of E _L, ξ and q contains different sets of matrix elements of the dipole transitions between the levels 1s(Γ ₅ ⁺ ) and 2p(Γ ₄ ⁻ ,Γ ₅ ⁻ ,Γ ₃ ⁻ Γ ₂ ⁻ ). Thus, by measuring the period of the quantum beats it is possible to determine the unknown matrix elements of the indicated transitions. Fiz. Tverd. Tela (St. Petersburg) 39, 844–847 (May 1997)

Features of exchange interactions in double perovskites

Magnetic susceptibility of double perovskites Sr₂BB′O₆ (B = Sc, Fe, Cr; B′ = Sb, Nb, W) and their dilute solid solutions has been studied. The complex changes of Sr₂BB′O₆ magnetic properties have revealed temperature-dependent distortions of crystalline structure and local ordering of 3d elements atoms in different spin states.
