Natural convection heat transfer from a vertical isothermal plate with pin fins is numerically studied by solving the Navier–Stokes equations along with the energy equation. The average Nusselt number for the plate with different configurations of pin fins is obtained. The average Nusselt number is found to increase with increasing aspect ratio of the fin and to decrease with increasing angle of fin inclination with respect to the plate. There is only a minor difference between the average Nusselt numbers for in-line and staggered arrangement of fins for the range of parameters studied in the present work. A correlation is developed to predict the average Nusselt number of the plate as a function of fin spacing in the streamwise and spanwise directions, aspect ratio of the fin, and its angle of inclination. 相似文献

Effect of viscoelastic bed on the hydroelastic response analysis of very large floating structures is studied using the linear water wave theory and small amplitude structural response in finite water depth. The floating structure is modeled using Euler–Bernoulli beam equation and the bottom bed is assumed to be viscoelastic in nature and is based on the Voigt’s model. The dispersion relation, phase speed and response amplitude of the floating structure as well as viscoelastic bed surface, pressure distribution along water depth are analyzed to study the effect of viscoelastic bed parameters, flexural rigidity of the floating structure, time period on flexural gravity wave motion. The study reveals that structural response of the floating structure can be mitigated for moderate thickness of the viscoelastic layer. Moreover, both shear modulus and viscosity of the viscoelastic layer play dominant role in reducing the structural response compared to the flexural rigidity of the structure. Further, pressure distribution within the viscoelastic bed decreases at a higher rate compared to the inviscid fluid layer irrespective of shear modulus and viscosity. The present study will be of immense help in the site selection of very large floating structures in the coastal water and installation of various marine facilities over muddy bed. 相似文献

In the present paper, we construct the analytical exact solutions of some nonlinear evolution equations in mathematical physics; namely the space-time fractional Zakharov–Kuznetsov(ZK) and modified Zakharov–Kuznetsov(m ZK) equations by using fractional sub-equation method. As a result, new types of exact analytical solutions are obtained. The obtained results are shown graphically. Possible formation of stable Au atomic wire on the hydrogen terminated Si(0 0 1): 3×1 surface is investigated under the density functional formalism. The hydrogen terminated Si(0 0 1): 3×1 surface is patterned in two different ways by removing selective hydrogen atoms from the surface. The adsorption of Au on such surfaces is studied at different sub-monolayer coverages. At 4/9 monolayer (ML) coverage, zigzag continuous Au chains are found to be stable on the patterned hydrogen terminated Si(0 0 1): 3×1 surface. The reason for the stability of the wire structures at 4/9 ML coverage is explained. It is to be noted that beyond 4/9 ML coverage, the additional Au atoms may introduce clusters on the surface. The continuous atomic gold chains on the substrate may be useful for the fabrication of atomic scale devices. 相似文献

1‐longitudinal optical (LO) phonons in free‐standing mixed Cd1−xZnxS nanocrystals, synthesized using chemical precipitation, are investigated using Raman spectroscopy. As expected for the nanocrystals, the 1‐LO modes are found to appear at slightly lower wavenumbers than those in the bulk mixed crystals and exhibit one‐mode behavior. On the other hand, the line broadening is found to be much more than that can be accounted on the basis of phonon confinement. From the detailed line‐shape analysis it turns out that the substitutional disorder in the mixed crystals contributes much more to the line broadening than the phonon confinement. Rapidly solidified amorphous Fe68.5Si18.5Nb3B9Cu1 ribbon has been subjected to heat treatment at a temperature of 550 °C for different time periods. All the annealed ribbons show the precipitation of nanocrystalline Fe3Si phase from the amorphous phase. The estimated crystallite size from X-ray diffraction peak analysis was in the range of 15-25 nm. While the surface studies confirm the presence of a distribution of spherical nanostructures in amorphous matrix. Both magnetoimpedance and longitudinal permeability ratios are found to increase with annealing time, and attain a maximum value for 60 min annealed ribbon and decrease on further increase in the annealing time. The enhanced magnetic properties and magnetoimpedance on suitable heat treatment is attributed to the change of magnetic parameters such as anisotropy and magnetostriction, due to change in microstructure. Analysis of permeability and impedance data taken under similar conditions suggests a strong correlation between them. 相似文献

Cuprate superconductors. It is assumed that superconductivity arises due to BCS pairing mechanism in presence of AFM in Cu lattices of Cu-O planes. The total Hamiltonian of the system is mean field one
and has been solved exactly by writing the equations of motion for the single particle Green’s functions. Equations for the
appropriate single particle co-relation functions are derived and the order parameters corresponding to SC and AFM are determined.
It is assumed that the Fermi energy ∈

= 0 and the renormalized localized f energy level coincide with the Fermi level. All the quantities in the final equation for h and Δ are made dimensionless by dividing by 2t, where t is the hopping integral. The temperature dependent values of staggered magnetic field (h) and SC gap (Δ) were determined by solving self-consistent equations for h and Δ. The quasiparticle energy bands are function of AFM gap (h), SC gap (Δ) and hybridization (V). Then the dispersion of quasi-particles are studied at different temperatures by considering temperature dependent values
of h and Δ and varying other different model parameters.

Diamond-like carbon films are deposited on silicon substrates at different substrate bias using ECR-CVD technique. Raman spectroscopic studies show the presence of broad G and D peaks. In contrast to the position of D peak, the G peak shows a systematic red-shift with increase in the bias voltage. From the analysis it is found that an increase in bias voltage decreases the sp2 cluster diameter. Furthermore, two additional Raman peaks at around 690 and 880 cm?1 are also observed. These peaks, forbidden in the first order Raman scattering, arise due to the breakdown of phonon selection rule in graphitic nanoclusters. 相似文献

The excited state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) processes in 3‐methylsalicyclic acid (3‐MeSA) and 3‐methoxysalicyclic acid (3‐MeOSA) have been investigated in cyclohexane medium by emission spectroscopic techniques. The ESIPT process was characterized in 3‐MeSA from the large Stokes fluorescent band (455 nm), but it was suppressed by 3‐MeOSA in cyclohexane. The ESIPT process was found to be accelerated both in 3‐MeSA and 3‐MeOSA in the presence of a hydrogen bond accepting agent, triethylamine (TEA). Further, theoretical calculations were carried out at the ground and excited states to complement the experimental evidences. 相似文献
