Regularities of adhesive failure in particulate filled polymers

The effect of adhesion between matrix and filler on mechanical properties of composites is analyzed. It is shown, that the loss of adhesion (extension of exfoliated surface) leads to a marked reduction of uniaxial tension modulus. Regularities of interphase crack growth were found and dependences of initial (critical) and final angles of exfoliation upon mechanical and scale factors were obtained.

Problems of adhesive contact. A review

Questions of importance to the understanding of the adhesion mechanism are examined. Special attention is given to the relief of the substrate surface and processes associated with the penetration of the adhesive into surface depressions. The possibility of diffusion of macromolecules across the adhesive-substrate interface is considered; the importance of a little-studied factor — the diffusion of low-molecular substances — is demonstrated.V.
