Amphiphilic graft copolymers were prepared via the radical copolymerization of poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) macromonomers with fluorocarbon or hydrocarbon acrylates in toluene with 2,2′‐azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) as an initiator. 1H NMR spectroscopy confirmed that the composition of the graft copolymers corresponded well to the monomer feed. For gel electrolytes prepared from the amphiphilic copolymers, the nature of the ionophobic parts of the amphiphilic graft copolymers had a great influence on the ion conductivity. Gel electrolytes based on graft copolymers containing fluorocarbon side chains showed significantly higher ion conductivity than electrolytes based on graft copolymers containing hydrocarbon groups. The ambient‐temperature ion conductivity was about 2.6 mS/cm at 20 °C for a gel electrolyte based on an amphiphilic graft copolymer consisting of an acrylate backbone carrying PEO and fluorocarbon side chains. Corresponding gels based on graft copolymers with PEO side chains and hydrocarbon groups showed an ambient‐temperature ion conductivity of about 1.2 mS/cm. The gel electrolytes contained 30 wt % copolymer and 70 wt % 1 M LiPF6 in an ethylene carbonate/γ‐butyrolactone (2/1 w/w) mixture. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A liquid chromatography electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry (LC‐MS/MS) method has been developed for the determination of 5,10‐methylenetetrahydrofolate (methyleneTHF), tetrahydrofolate (THF) and 5‐methyltetrahydrofolate (methylTHF) in colorectal mucosa and tumor tissues. The folate extraction method includes homogenization, heat and folate conjugase treatment to hydrolyze polyglutamyl folate to monoglutamyl folate. Before analysis on LC‐MS/MS, simple and fast sample purification with ultrafiltration (molecular weight cut‐off membrane, 10 kDa) was performed. Folates were detected and quantified using positive electrospray. The method described in the present paper was successfully applied to determine the level of three folate monoglutamates in mucosa and tumor samples from 77 colorectal cancer patients, starting from a limited amount of tissue. The results showed that the LC‐MS/MS method has a great advantage over other previously used methods because of its high sensitivity and selectivity. Significantly higher levels of methyleneTHF and THF were found in tumor compared with matched mucosa tissues. Folate levels in adjacent mucosa were associated with tumor location, age and gender. The correlation between folate levels and tumor site further strengthens the fact that development of right‐ and left‐sided tumors follows different pathways. The mapping closure of Chen et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett., 63, 1989] is a transported probability density function (PDF) method that has proven very efficient for modelling of turbulent mixing in homogeneous turbulence. By utilizing a Gaussian reference field, the solution to the mapping function (in homogeneous turbulence) can be found analytically for a range of initial conditions common for turbulent combustion applications, e.g. for binary or trinary mixing. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the possibility of making this solution a presumed mapping function (PMF) for inhomogeneous flows. The PMF in turn will imply a presumed mixture fraction PDF that can be used for a wide range of models in turbulent combustion, e.g. flamelet models, the conditional moment closure (CMC) or large eddy simulations. The true novelty of the paper, though, is in the derivation of highly efficient, closed algebraic expressions for several existing models of conditional statistics, e.g. for the conditional scalar dissipation/diffusion rate or the conditional mean velocity. The closed form expressions nearly eliminates the overhead computational cost that usually is associated with nonlinear models for conditional statistics. In this respect it is argued that the PMF is particularly well suited for CMC that relies heavily on manipulations of the PDF for consistency. The accuracy of the PMF approach is shown with comparison to DNS of a single scalar mixing layer to be better than for the β-PDF. The pole field solver developed recently by the authors (J. Comput. Phys. 230:5957–5973, 2011) is used to survey the space of solutions of the second Painlevé equation that are real on the real axis. This includes well-known solutions such as the Hastings–McLeod and Ablowitz–Segur type of solutions, as well as some novel solutions. The speed and robustness of this pole field solver enable the exploration of pole dynamics in the complex plane as the parameter and initial conditions of the differential equation are varied. This article presents a new design of flow-orientation device for the study of bio-macromolecules, including DNA and protein complexes, as well as aggregates such as amyloid fibrils and liposome membranes, using Linear Dichroism (LD) spectroscopy. The design provides a number of technical advantages that should make the device inexpensive to manufacture, easier to use and more reliable than existing techniques. The degree of orientation achieved is of the same order of magnitude as that of the commonly used concentric cylinders Couette flow cell, however, since the device exploits a set of flat strain-free quartz plates, a number of problems associated with refraction and birefringence of light are eliminated, increasing the sensitivity and accuracy of measurement. The device provides similar shear rates to those of the Couette cell but is superior in that the shear rate is constant across the gap. Other major advantages of the design is the possibility to change parts and vary sample volume and path length easily and at a low cost. 相似文献

The six Painlevé transcendents PI − PVI have both applications and analytic properties that make them stand out from most other classes of special functions. Although they have been the subject of extensive theoretical investigations for about a century, they still have a reputation for being numerically challenging. In particular, their extensive pole fields in the complex plane have often been perceived as ‘numerical mine fields’. In the present work, we note that the Painlevé property in fact provides the opportunity for very fast and accurate numerical solutions throughout such fields. When combining a Taylor/Padé-based ODE initial value solver for the pole fields with a boundary value solver for smooth regions, numerical solutions become available across the full complex plane. We focus here on the numerical methodology, and illustrate it for the PI equation. In later studies, we will concentrate on mathematical aspects of both the PI and the higher Painlevé transcendents. 相似文献
