We report the first measurement of the parity-violating asymmetry A(PV) in the elastic scattering of polarized electrons from 208Pb. A(PV) is sensitive to the radius of the neutron distribution (R(n)). The result A(PV)=0.656±0.060(stat)±0.014(syst) ppm corresponds to a difference between the radii of the neutron and proton distributions R(n)-R(p)=0.33(-0.18)(+0.16) fm and provides the first electroweak observation of the neutron skin which is expected in a heavy, neutron-rich nucleus. 相似文献

Prostate cancer is one of the most common types of cancer in men, and unfortunately many prostate tumours remain asymptomatic
until they reach advanced stages. Diagnosis is typically performed through Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) quantification,
Digital Rectal Examination (DRE) and Transrectal Ultrasonography (TU). The antigen (PSA) is secreted by all prostatic epithelial
cells and not exclusively by cancerous ones, so its concentration also increases in the presence of other prostatic diseases.
DRE and TU are not reliable for early detection, when histological analysis of prostate tissue obtained from a biopsy is necessary.
In this context, fluorescence techniques are very important for the diagnosis of cancer. In this paper we explore the potential
of using endogenous phorphyrin blood fluorescence as tumour marker for prostate cancer. Substances such as porphyrin derivatives
accumulate substantially more in tumours than in normal tissues; thus, measuring blood porphyrin concentration by autofluorescence
intensity may provide a good parameter for determining tumour stage. In this study, the autofluorescence of blood porphyrin
was analyzed using fluorescence and excitation spectroscopy on healthy male NUDE mice and in those with prostate cancer induced
by inoculation of DU145 cells. A significant contrast between the blood of normal and cancer subjects could be established.
Blood porphyrin fluorophore showed an enhancement on the fluorescence band around 632 nm following tumour growth. Fluorescence
detection has advantages over other light-based investigation methods: high sensitivity, high speed and safety. However it
does carry the drawback of low specificity of detection. The extraction of blood porphyrin using acetone can solve this problem,
since optical excitation of further molecular species can be excluded, and light scattering from blood samples is negligible. 相似文献

The first direct measurement of the atomic dipole phase in high-order harmonic generation obtained by an interferometric technique in the extreme ultraviolet (XUV) is reported. The GRAAL experimental set-up consists of a polarized and tagged photon beam that covers an energy range from a minimum of 600 MeV up to a maximum of 1500 MeV, of a liquid Hydrogen or Deuterium target and of the 4π Lagrange detector optimized for photon detection. It allows the study of pseudo-scalar and vector meson photoproduction on the nucleon in the energy range corresponding to the second and the third resonance regions. In the following, the Σ beam asymmetries in η and π~0 photoproduction on quasi-free nucleon are shown. Also single and double polarization observables in K~+A photoproduction on free proton are shown; they are important to confirm the role of new or poorly known resonances in the 1900 MeV mass region. 相似文献

Ramsey-like schemes have been recently introduced in combination with high-order laser harmonic sources for high-resolution spectroscopic studies in the extreme ultraviolet (XUV). Here we demonstrate a novel method, combining measurements only in a limited subset of randomly chosen time-sampling intervals, which lead us to perform the first high-resolution XUV spectroscopy of atomic argon with a simple split-pulse setup. Providing an experimentally simple and convenient solution to the problem of performing high-resolution absolute frequency measurements in the XUV, our approach will help paving new roads into this challenging spectral territory. 相似文献

We propose a conditional Bilateral Gamma model, in which the shape parameters of the Bilateral Gamma distribution have a Garch-like dynamics. After risk neutralization by means of a Bilateral Esscher transform, the model admits a recursive procedure for the computation of the characteristic function of the underlying at maturity, à la Heston and Nandi (Rev Financ Stud 13(3):562–585, 2000). We compare the calibration performance on SPX options with the models of Heston and Nandi (Rev Financ Stud 13(3):562–585, 2000), Christoffersen et al. We propose and experimentally verify a novel method for the remote preparation of entangled bits (ebits) made of a single photon coherently delocalized in two well-separated temporal modes. The proposed scheme represents a remotely tunable source for tailoring arbitrary ebits, whether maximally or nonmaximally entangled, which is highly desirable for applications in quantum information technology. The remotely prepared ebit is studied by performing homodyne tomography with an ultrafast balanced homodyne detection scheme recently developed in our laboratory. 相似文献

In order to provide a structural basis for a physical understanding of exchange bias in metal/magnetic-oxide interfaces, we have determined the structure of the Fe/NiO(001) interface by means of x-ray absorption spectroscopy and ab initio density functional theory calculations. A Fe-Ni alloyed phase on top of an interfacial FeO planar layer is formed. The FeO layer exhibits a 7% expanded interlayer distance and a 0.3 A buckling; its presence is predicted to increase the spin magnetic moment of the interface Fe atoms by 0.6 mu(B), compared to the ideally abrupt interface. 相似文献

The CUPID-0 experiment searches for double beta decay using cryogenic calorimeters with double (heat and light) read-out. The detector, consisting of 24 ZnSe crystals 95\(\%\) enriched in \(^{82}\)Se and two natural ZnSe crystals, started data-taking in 2017 at Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso. We present the search for the neutrino-less double beta decay of \(^{82}\)Se into the 0\(_1^+\), 2\(_1^+\) and 2\(_2^+\) excited states of \(^{82}\)Kr with an exposure of 5.74 kg\(\cdot \)yr (2.24\(\times \)10\(^{25}\) emitters\(\cdot \)yr). We found no evidence of the decays and set the most stringent limits on the widths of these processes: \(\varGamma \)(\(^{82}\)Se \(\rightarrow ^{82}\)Kr\(_{0_1^+}\))8.55\(\times \)10\(^{-24}\) yr\(^{-1}\), \(\varGamma \) (\(^{82}\) Se \(\rightarrow ^{82}\) Kr \(_{2_1^+}\))\(\,{<}\,6.25 \,{\times }\,10^{-24}\) yr\(^{-1}\), \(\varGamma \)(\(^{82}\)Se \(\rightarrow ^{82}\)Kr\(_{2_2^+}\))8.25\(\times \)10\(^{-24}\) yr\(^{-1}\) (90\(\%\) credible interval). 相似文献

We present an experiment where Ramsey-type spectroscopy is applied to autoionizing states of krypton by using the ninth harmonic (88 nm) of a femtosecond Ti:sapphire laser. The ionization process, detected by an electron-energy spectrometer, shows the characteristic quantum interference pattern. The behavior of the fringe contrast compares favorably with a simple essential-state model, whose parameters have been taken from the literature. The experiment shows the feasibility of high-resolution spectroscopy in the extreme ultraviolet by using high-order laser harmonics. 相似文献
